I thought you were a supporter of Freedom of Speech and everyone being allowed to voice an opinion?  There is nothing remotely contentious or shameful in anything Edgar has said and it certainly does not undermine Op Grange in any way that I can see.  So if your certain Op Grange isn't looking at Edgar's theory perhaps you can tell us what theory they. ARE looking at.

It is not WHAT he is saying but that he is talking to the press at all that is beyond the pale.

So how does his 'Victoria Beckham' theory square with his present theory ? If he has only read the files that  the McCanns have given him access to how can he possibly have constructd an informed theory ? Why didn't he discover Crecheman ?

So many questions.........!

Why is talking to the press "beyond the pale"?  Don't you think people criticising the amount spent on Operation Grange in the media are doing far more to undermine the Met's work than anything Dave Edgar has said?

Can I just point out that you have only read the same files as Dave Edgar and you seem to think you have constructed an informed theory so....?

One question. Why is Edgar talking to the press now? He has had at least six years to speak so why now? Is he preempting a conclusion to OG that won't be quite so McCann-friendly?

Interesting times ahead methinks.

It's pretty obvious why he's in the press now - think.  What's coming up....?  &%+((£

Why would he make himself look really stupid in the press now by saying Madeleine might still be alive if he knew that very shortly Op Grange were about to conclude the parents dunnit?  Think, girl, think!!

So, according to you, Edgar is speaking out because it's the tenth anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance. So why not speak out on the 5th, 6th.....anniversary? Did she need to be found any less than now? And the baby buyer and Joseph Fritzl-like keeper of the dungeon Edgar at one point thought Madeleine was in? What of them now?

And as for making himself look stupid, that certainly doesn't seem to bother him. Lest we forget ' Madeleine's abductor may be a woman' and 'I've only seen the files given to me by the parents'. This man obviously cares little for his dignity.

Thank goodness someone cares enough to put his dignity on hold, if this is what you think he has done.

So how do you think he has put his dignity on hold Eleanor? By standing up in court and admitting he had run an investigation after only looking at the files the McCanns had given him access to or perhaps by staging a worldwide press conference appealing for an individual to come forward while failing to do even the most rudimentary investigation to find her or even by hounding a critically ill man for an interview and when one was granted insisted he had to catch his plane.

He doesn't care enough to put his dignity on hold, he's just to dense to realise when it's happening.

Oh Dear, how very sad that you should so despise someone who is trying to help in whatever way he can.

His suggestions of what may have happened to Madeleine and where she might be are not at all beyond the realms of possibility.  It has happened before and will no doubt happen again.

And I find it to be extremely offensive that you should decide that he he doesn't care because he is too dense.

I wouldn't mind betting that he is a tad more knowledgable than you.

I don't despise Edgar I just despair at his lack of judgement.

An investigator who will agree to investigate a case even though he is aware that's he doesn't have access to all the available information  does not deserve mine, or your, respect or attention. If he was willing to tackle such a complex case in this way calling him dense is probably the most charitable description available.

You say he is trying to help but when he could actually physically do something to take the case forward by investigating the Barcelona sighting he did nothing and was roundly criticised for it.

So what do you think of his current suggestions?

His opinion is an informed one given his line of work where he honed his expertise over a period of years.
Added to that he has first hand experience of working to find Madeleine in the Algarve.

I am a bit lost on the criticism that the only files he had access to were those shown to him by Kate McCann.  As I understand it the complete files Kate McCann had were professionally translated and contained the full conclusion of the PJ files on Madeleine's case up to the forensic conclusions of the time and the shelving.

The files Amaral allegedly used for his book were no doubt mainly written by him as case coordinator and were incomplete as he had no access to the continuation of the case after being dismissed from it.

Amaral's display of ignorance is the embarrassment.
As is the need to denigrate anyone who voices the merest encouraging opinion on Madeleine McCann's behalf.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Of course he had access to the same Files that The McCanns had translated.  Why bother to state otherwise?

I despair sometimes, I really do.

All of which could be said of another investigator.

I despair sometimes, I really do.

On 12/9/2013 he had not read the complete files.

GP – Did you have access to the criminal process?
DE answers that he read parts of the files in the translation that the McCanns asked to be done.
GP – How did you manage to conduct an investigation without analysing all the process? Whom did you contact in Portugal?
DE says he contacted an informant who passed information to both the UK and Portuguese authorities. He doesn't want to say to whom he spoke, but says he spoke to someone from the PJ.
