These questions IMO are irrelevant because they are made under the assumption that everything in the investigation was done in accordance with Gonçalo Amaral's orders. He did not control the investigation, that is the responsibility of the judges. All decisions were made by the higher ups, not by him. He did not steer the investigation in certain directions, as some would believe. This was not a "Morse" or "Lewis" episode with one policeman making all of the decisions. It was a group effort.

This is patently rubbish.  The Judges don't do the investigation.  They take the word of The Coordinator.

Easy.

McCann supporters will say yes to both. Those who question the McCann's, NO.

I would say no to both
He was just a very poor detective imo

As I understand it the PJ in Portugal are responsible for crime prevention and investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution Authority.  As coordinator, Gonçalo Amaral would have been directed by the public prosecutor but had an almost free hand in how that investigation developed.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

That is not borne out by his record I'm afraid.

The Co-ordinator is directed by his bosses In his words;

Two deputy national directors and the co-ordinator of the Portimao dept of Criminal Investigation will direct the investigations. [Truth of the lie]

He was outranked by the other two, so whatever he did he did with their agreement.

Do we have his full record and the source
It's borne out in the two cases we know about

I think you might find that The Coordinator only went to The Directors after he had decided.

Not that I really care.  Someone will eventually have to do something about Portuguese Justice.  I just pity the poor people who are subjected to it.

And it would take me a whole page to tell you what I actually think.

Do you have anything to support that assertion?

He certainly didn't go to them before he decided.

Oh, I see.  The Senior Detective tasked with organising The Case goes to The Directors, or Magistrates, as I understand it,  and says, "Excuse me Your Honour, what do you think?"

Europol put it like this:

Judicial Police

"The Judicial Police is a high-level criminal police force, which falls under the Minister of Justice. Its mission is to assist the judicial authorities with investigations and developing and promoting criminal investigation and preventive action. The service is particularly qualified to combat crime, especially organised crime and other kinds of highly complex and violent crime, which require a nationally managed information system. The Judicial Police is the competent body for contact between the Portuguese authorities and international organisations for criminal police cooperation, such as Interpol and Europol."

Why such a long gap (almost a year) between (by that reckoning) the decision being taken that the process would be archived and it actually being archived on (from memory) 4 August 2008?

And I would dispute that Joao Carlos was a part of that, apparent, 'consensus'.

I think it is all to do with provision in the Portuguese penal code that the police have eight months between constituting an arguido and charging them.

Murat's time was up sometime in January 2008 but was delayed until the situation with Kate and Gerry's status was sorted out.

I think had there been no arguido's rights with the attendant timescale to be considered that the Rebelo investigation might have run its course.
Why it wasn't allowed to continue minus the three against whom there was no evidence is a bit of a mystery for me.  Why was there such great impetus for a prosecution ... the imperative was surely to find the child first and then evidence to prosecute?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....
