Everything that was 'sifted through' represents work. That is how the 'significant' lead now being actively followed was discovered.
Unlike fictional detectives and Amaral whose cases are solved only by their brilliance ... real police work includes sifting through accumulations of data to weed out the wheat from the chaff to enable progress.
I think the sceptic attitude we have seen displayed since the SY announcement that they are actively following evidence is very revealing and is not a pretty sight.
I was astounded to read this quote from an ex top cop in Portugal regarding the scale of the original investigation. If his comment represents the normal attitude towards complex investigations then Madeleine stood no chance.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ex-top-cop-breaks-madeleine-10278020He said: “When Madeleine disappeared, we had 12 other missing children – three or four in the Madeira islands, the rest on the mainland.
“The money we spent on Madeleine was a million times more than all the others put together.
“I don’t know if it was pressure from government or the media, but it was the most expensive investigation in the history of Portugal – by far.
“That’s one of the lessons too, not always putting big numbers and lots of policemen.
Sometimes you don’t need 400 officers, you need only three or four to focus on the results.”
