Britain's Got Talent 2017 - Missing People Choir
« on: June 04, 2017, 06:16:20 PM »
For the uninitiated, this year's BGT featured the Missing People Choir: Kate McCann is an ambassador for the Missing People Charity.
The choir gave 3 performances during the BGT series, reaching the final which aired live last night. During each song the choir performed, images of UK children still currently missing were featured for the theatre & TV audiences to view.
Is it significant that Madeleine's image was not featured in any of the shows? (Ben Needham's was)

Did Kate McCann sing in the choir ?

It is the Missing Peoples Choir, not her exclusive charity.

I would think by now, people are aware that Madeleine is missing, along with Ben, of course.

Were other missing people referred to ?

No, Kate did not sing in the choir but neither did Kerry as far as I could see.
I realise the Charity Choir is not Kate's exclusive cause but it just struck me as odd that Madeleine wasn't featured in any of the 3 screenings. Several other missing children/people were featured, including Sandy Davidson & Claudia Lawrence.

Well, I am glad other missing children were given some airtime.

I missed it too, the Champions League final took precedence in our home. I just picked up the absence of Madeleine's image from a Tweet & viewed the 3 performances online.

I had it on because I wondered if Kate would turn up;

Although she has not been singing in the choir during the auditions, it has been said Mrs McCann may become more involved if they progress to the televised stages.

I was surprised the choir didn't get further than they did in the final, the voting public obviously weren't swayed by semantics.

As the most publicised missing child in the world it was ironic that the Missing People organisers felt that using Madeleine's image would be detrimental to their chances of success in the competition.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

May I enquire as to whether you considered that significant?

The other point I would like to enquire, if you would be so grateful, is whether you think they were good enough as a choir to reach the final?

I saw their first performance only.  I happened to think, based purely on ability, they were not good enough to progress from that.  I checked with my better half and got the same answer.

This had nowt to do with Kate or the worthiness of the Missing People organisation.  It was simply based on an assessment of talent.
What's up, old man?

Was BGT really the right platform, take the likes of Paul Potts,Susan Boyle who went on to fame and fortune were they really hoping to do that, why not go with some like of Gareth Malone to further it.

I've always assumed it was some sort of ill-advised publicity stunt - the sort of thing Gerry would think of as a 'good marketing ploy'

I do think the absence of Madeleine's image was significant but no doubt the vast majority will disagree. Time will tell.
The choir achieved its objective by projecting images of missing loved ones to around 10 million people & made a few pounds for the charity in music downloads. Were they good enough? - based on the standard of acts which were voted through to the final, probably just about. From the little I have watched this year there seemed to be a dearth of true original talent. JMO.
For the record, the choir received just over 5% of the total votes cast.

In my opinion the high profile Madeleine campaign may be over.

I agree with that, unless there is a major new development in the near future.
