In the extremely unlikely event that it happened I'm sure the authorities would be up to dealing with it.

Which authorities?

Enough, I think.  Thank you to those who participated.  I mainly wanted my Theory on record as it is a possibility.  And would explain why Operation Grange are taking so long, and saying nothing.

But probably doesn't - IMO

Never mind, eh.  It was worth a passing thought.

Some South American countries have no extradition, not even for foreigners.  And since Madeleine is currently still a minor, I wonder how Britain or Portugal would be able to deal with this, presuming of course that they could prove it was Madeleine.

You would only need an extradition treaty with a country if you required the return of a person for trial or sentence. It is the Hague Convention which is the multilateral treaty for the speedy recovery of an abducted child. There are far more countries which are not signatories to the HC. https://www.hcch.net/en/states/other-connected-states

Regarding extradion my 5cents.

1. If a country is a member of UN there is good change that all of the listed countries above are they have in their national legislation adopted law for children rights.  It is almost certain that she will reunite with bilogical parents if they have not given the right.

2. Second aspect is that no matter where is she now if she is discovered she is not legal resident in that country(forged papers, birth cerfti. etc)   since she is not adult she will be again reunited with the parents or the country who has legal jurisdiction over the child. The one who issued birt.cert. passport. etc.

Operation grange might have to solve the things for extradion but not for Maddie but for the offenders and they have yes to provide upfront evidence to the host countries before they ask for arrest, extradition detention(prison) and extradition  at end.  Yes this requires time.

At the end extradition is  term used for person who has been convicted of a crime in a judical process or they are under judicial investigation and are persons of interest.

Presumably she remains a ward of the Court of Chancery or has that been rescinded?

Always given that OG turn up a crime that falls within The Met's authority and the perp has legged it to foreign parts. It's difficult to see how The Met have any authority over a crime committed in Portugal unless it is the murder or manslaughter of a UK citizen in Portugal then it's for up for grabs by either State.

An assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

How do we know that the crime occurred only in Portugal? Pre planning and organizing for i.e UK and executing in Portugal would certainly be punishable by law and would involve UK jurisdiction. There is legal reason why Homicide & Serious Crime Command of the Met took the case we don’t know all the details yet but how all this things have been organized shows some dots.

Met have mentioned multiple times of international police cooperation and this can only happen if there are legal ground  to put them through Interpol or Europol they work on judicial documents primarily not hunch.

Are you able to show that Europol and Interpol have been involved? MLA requires the involvement of neither one.
On the face of it your gross assumption is no better than my less gross assumption unless ya'll are a conspiracy theorist. Deal me out of that one.

You assume there was a crime.

You assume there was an abduction.

Assumptions are no more than speculation.
