Clarence Mitchell confirmed last year that whilst he is no longer their official spokesman, he still assists them as and when.

Let's be honest though, if the McCanns had given a "direct" statement to the media you'd probably have quipped pretty much the same sentiment as you did earlier re: Clarence being approached by the Mail.

We will never know whether that’s true will we because even though they are two highly educated professionals who are more than able to answer even difficult questions with ease they still choose to hide behind a paid spokesperson.

As there has been so much noise surrounding this case over the course of the first ten years, perhaps a period of silence while the investigation continues wouldn't go amiss?  Frustrating though it may be for fans of the case...

Fans ? A rather odd description.

There have been several investigation updates since Wall took over the case yet none fronted by her.  Isn’t it usual for the SIO to deliver such updates ? Redwood certainly did.

Not sure what would be considered normal, but Rowley was a good few ranks higher than a DCI, so I can only assume that SY wanted a media-savvy frontman for this case.
Rowley has gone now so who will the replacement spokesperson be?
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.

Or maybe not -

I think we both know it's highly likely that you would find some hidden meaning in their words, whatever they might be.

You seem overly anxious to hear from DCI Wall, as you have made reference to this already in the recent past.  Don't worry, I'm sure in the fullness of time we will hear from her.

What has that got to do with it ?

What has that got to do with it ?
Whatever the McCanns say or do not say, do or do not do, indicates to yourself something suspicious, or underhand, or cowardly, or dishonorable.  The latest examples on this thread are your beliefs that a) by not giving a public interview to express gratitude to the Met, that this implies some level of discomfort on their part towards the investigation and a high level of ingratitude and b) by instead communicating their gratitude to the Met via a spokesperson that they are in hiding and by implication afraid.  It doesn't really matter what they say or do, because you will IMO find something in their speech and actions to further castigate them, am I right or am I right?

That is your interpretation not what I have said.

Of course while directing your accusations at me you are deflecting from the real question asked which was why haven’t the McCanns directly thanked the HO and Met for their efforts to find the daughter they so carelessly lost ?

It does surprise me that imo someone can misread all the evidence and statemnts and come to the conclusion not only that the mccanns are criminally involved in maddies disappearance but that SY and the portuguese are actually following this line of investigation...absolutely unbelieveable...imo of course

And there you go again.  IMO The McCanns have a spokesperson that IMO they directed to express their thanks and gratitude to the media regarding the on-going funding of Operation Grange.  IMO There is no mystery, no subterfuge, no ingratitude.

Maybe this is the reason why the McCanns do not make public statments that often anymore, either directly to the media or on their FB page and maybe it's the reason why the Met haven't confirmed the amount of extra funding they have received...

Any one care to bring anything from SY saying they are investigating a lead.

It would seem not.
The H.O blog is a bit curt wrt to comments in the media.
