Should people be legally obliged to use their real name on the internet?

I dont think anyone should be allowed to hide behind a pseudonym on the internet and get away with abusing others.  If people were forced legally to use their real names most of this dreadful abuse would disappear instantly IMHO.

Your view?

That is self evident.  However, I would always encourage members to use their real name and even their photo as their avatar as I do.

There are hundreds , possibly thousands of people with the same name as me, so what would it achieve to use it on a forum?

Why stop at names?

Why not home address, daytime telephone number, next of kin & inside leg measurement?

We are waiting for you Davel, as you agreed with John.

I already know from experience on here, that certain parties, a matter which has been referred to Admin, have tried to identify me and where I live, from my name.

Only really works if you have an unusual name like Nigel Nessling.

No,  I don't think people should be legally obliged to use their real name on forums such as this one,  where there are two sides to the debate.

I for one will not,   I have been subject to someone who tried to find out who I am,  I believe they only want to know so that they can threaten and stalk.

One poor girl was hounded off twitter because the alledgedly believed she was one of the nannies,  even told her they knew where she lived.

When there are people who would use the information for malicious intention,  there should always be the choice to use an alias.
