Why does this matter so much to some?  Everybody knows that I left my small children alone in similar circumstance.  As it happens they never woke up, and they weren't abducted.

But why it should matter of who said what to whom?  It hardly affects the outcome.

Anyway - if it was all an invention -  for whatever reason - then surely they would both be word perfect.  ''Why didn't you come when Sean and I cried last night'' is hardly difficult to memorise.

IMO it's mistake to put too much reliance on summarised, twice translated statements being totally accurate.   None of the summarised statements we have to go on have been signed by anyone to say that they are accurate translations of the previous translations.     It only takes one wrongly translated word to change the whole meaning of a sentence.

In my opinion you should also be word perfect if your daughter said something before disappearing. You would not mix up 'me and S**an' or "S**n and I" with "the twins". Neither would an interpreter.

The McCanns said this incident was possibly significant because it could have been due to an abductor being in the apartment on Wednesday evening. At the same time they have played down the more obvious point; their children cried and they still left them alone to do it again. They don't seem very empathetic, do they?

The independent evidence of the permanent resident who lived above the McCann's rental apartment related that the child cried for over an hour on the Tuesday night rendering her so perturbed and concerned that she phoned her friend to ask what she should do. She went out the following evening so as to avoid a repeat performance.

Madeleine questioned her mother on the Thursday morning which indicated the crying was indeed repeated on the Wednesday night.

There is also a report published in the Express that a couple entered the apartment on the Wednesday night having heard the crying which is extremely concerning.  Has this middle-aged couple ever been identified?

Statements were signed so any later changes are noted. You don't have to remember what you said earlier if you're telling the truth. If it does change then you better have a good reason.

I think they were a stickler for early childhood education.  In fact this is evident in the way the kids were disciplined in one of the released home videos.  Remember the one where Gerry interrogates the kids "who said Yeah, it Yes Daddy".  How old are the kids?

They were old enough to be instructed in the proper use of vocabulary.  They will pick up slang soon enough when starting school.

In the other thread it was quoted as the McCanns thought the same couple may have come back the next night (Thursday night), or something like that.
