Telecino journalists didn't have to have sight of official statements; all they had to do was trust the source and then release whatever.
In my opinion there were quite a few inaccurate press releases surrounding Madeleine's case, so what would one more matter?
However this is a particularly malevolent one in my opinion and one only has to ask 'cui bono?' to get to the root of it.
It brought Rebelo home from Britain to plug the leak. It embarrassed Kate and Gerry as they started a campaign to benefit all future missing children.
So someone must have been well satisfied with "RESULT!!!" although none of these. Surprised you continue in denial on that.
Telecinco said it had obtained leaked copies of the couple's statements to Portuguese police
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/spanish-tv-station-claims-it-obtained-302312It's clear that they did not have copies of those statements, no matter what their source told them.
Rebelo wasn't called back to 'plug a leak' AFAIK. He was, no doubt, able to show that the statements quoted by Telecinco bore no resemblance to the statements made by the McCanns. Hence the unprecedented denial by the PJ;
"The PJ want to make it clear that is
entirely false that the contents of this report included material from the inquiry which is covered by (the law of) secrecy of justice,"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7347187.stmI don't think there was any benefit here for the PJ. Everyone already knew the McCanns had left their children alone every evening, so the revelation that they were supposed to have cried didn't add much.
Rather than embarrassing the McCanns it gave them the chance to publicise their visit to Brussels and denigrate the PJ (again) at the same time imo.
