At about 21.05 - 21.15 Gerald went to the bedroom to see the children, he saw the bedroom door was half way open which he found strange as he thought he had left it pushed to, however he entered and saw the children and saw that the window as well as the shutter were closed. Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

That's a very good point. We are told by Gerry that when he went back to the apartment at 9.15, some 40 minutes after he had left, Madeleine was in the same position as before. Is that credible ? A young child on, according to Gerry, a warm night and she didn't move, even to ease the heat that must have been generated by having the pink blanket by her ? Really ?

Same position ,   as in on her left side?     I thought Gerry said Madeleine was on top of the cover?    Nothing abnormal about a child staying asleep on her side for 40 minutes.    IMO

The twins were still asleep in the children's bedroom and the door was half open.

Are you saying Kate hadn't been in the room?

No because she didn't have to move the door to enter the room.

I've just been looking at door open at 45 degrees and you wouldn't normally go through an opening of that size, as it would be a bit tight. Normally you would open the door to 75 degrees or more'
No way would an intruder, carrying a child, get through a 45 degree door opening, so why wasn't it left wide open. Surely not out of consideration for the remaining twins.

So what does it mean if Emma says the door was half open.

Do you know the timeline? Do you know who entered that room before Emma arrived? When Emma Knight arrived at the apartment only Kate and Fiona were present. Emma noticed the door was half-open again like Matt when he checked. You wouldn't think the door had moved all night but two said it had moved - The McCanns. Another one of those remarkable coincidences.

"I went to the McCann's apartment, entered by the patio doors and introduced myself to Kate and Mrs Payne. I entered the apartment living room and Kate and Mrs Payne stayed in the main bedroom, from where I could hear them both crying.

The twins were still asleep in the children's bedroom and the door was half open." http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/EMMA-LOUISE.htm

It opens up all sorts of conditions hitherto ignored or not considered.

So what does it mean?  Even if there were only two there when Emma arrived.  What time exactly was that?  Are you trying to suggest no one had been in the kid's room before Emma arrived?

There are a few reasons why the door could have been left in a 45° position. What is important is that the door had reportedly been moved & without knowing who moved it or why, any attempt at analysing its exact position when Kate arrived at 5A is pointless imo.

The different positions of the bedroom door between nine and ten was of great importance at the time.  It would only have been noted once statements had been taken and the information collated. In my opinion the earliest that could have happened would have been after the interviews on the 4th May.

Working on Kate's description of the bedroom window and shutters, Matt's description of light coming from the area of the window and outside in combination with the door movement I think there was a line of inquiry there begging to be followed through.
Particularly when Jane's sighting of the man carrying a child is added to the mix.

The whole investigation into Madeleine's disappearance might well have followed a different direction lasting days.

Instead we had the first leaks to the press with the publication in  Diario de Noticias: "Headline: a badly told story." an illustration of how badly off tangent the investigation was taken by ignoring the testimony of the witnesses.

It was all downhill from there.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Can't you say it without referring to a theory?
