I have set up a Go Fund Me appeal for funding a trip to Praia da Luz.  There are several issues related to the McCann story that I would like to research myself.
Can the forum please make as many possible suggestion for things they would like checked out so I maximise the benefit of travelling there.

I haven't got a target year yet, I can't imagine it will be this year but who knows.

What would you like me to check out for you?

You should be applauded for setting up this initiative Rob but I am not convinced that a crowd fund page is the answer. That said, there are indeed many things which do need checked out in and around Praia da Luz and especially additional photos taken etc...  I had hoped to have found the time to research some of this myself on the ground but unfortunately other priorities took precedence.

You should probably create a list at the bottom of your opening post.

I did a similar thing in a case in NZ.  To understand some things a good "on site investigation" is a good idea.  Problem with Portugal is the 24 hours of flight each way so it won't be something I could do monthly like I did here which was just a short trip to the Marlborough Sounds.

We have two very  professional police forces investigating... What makes you think you can do better

I'm not looking at solving the case from this visit but to look at certain issues that are not explained.  Whooshing curtains, slamming doors, locking the apartment, main bedroom window security.

I don't quite see what you'd be able to do.

- The place has been sold. Whether or not the new owners would welcome yet another armchair detective poking around the flat remains to be seen.

- You wouldn't be able to check out anyone getting in or out of the kids' bedroom:



- You won't be able to check the lighting as the street lights were replaced shortly after she disappeared, there's a large projector on the building that wasn't there before and the big tree that could have given cover has been chopped down.

- If the new owners put up a wrought-iron thing over the window, they may well have also changed the lock to the main door while they were at it.

- You can test a slamming door and whooshing curtains without leaving home or not going very far to a friend's house. I very much doubt that the PJ hasn't already checked that out.

It would be useful to know how the front door locks really work, even if 5a locks have been changed the others probably haven't.  Unfortunately, as Carana has pointed out, the new lighting will prevent some observations.

One thing you could do is ask around the locals to see what they really think about the case as we've heard so many conflicting stories.  A chat with Malinka or even Murat would be a bonus.

I don't know if I'm allowed to reveal this but I believe a substantial reward is to be offered for any information which leads to Maddie's recovery, a prosecution in the case or both.

That sounds like a desperate measure after so many years of professional sleuthing.

In the end I don't really trust anyone, so if I discovered anything it just has to go into the public domain.  For years people have been giving information which has been largely ignored IMO.

There was that commentary about Oakley International ignoring their help line, and I recall people complaining about the PJ doing the same (the two sisters Annie Wiltshire and Jayne Jensen).
