It indicates that there are vehicle plates in use other than obsolete German ones.
It could very well have been a Swiss plate that was seen rather than a German one -IMO

Especially as the hunted for man was a Swiss living in Berne.

Then wouldn't that have been simple enough to say in the first instance?  In my opinion it does rather help the flow of discussion on what is after all a discussion forum ... perennial put downs are just sooo last year don't you find.

I think most posters assume others can follow a simple discussion without having to spell everything out.

The 'hunted man' who nobody was looking for in 2007 ... and easily found by reporters? who did look acting on information received by them in 2012.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Included in the file we know for certain was in the hands of the Policia Judiciaria and in Paiva's 'not relevant file' is ...

Snip
:: Information about a British-registered white Mercedes box van which travelled on a ferry from Tarifa to Tangiers to Morocco from Spain with false number plates in the week Madeleine went missing. Its driver could not be traced

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/madeleinemccann/7353737/Madeleine-McCann-more-than-50-new-leads.html

So no doubt there will be a simple explanation for that and all the rest of it too  8**8:/:

I wonder how many British registered vans with false number plates crossed borders that week?

From Priai da Luz to Tarifa ... journey time ... 4hours 40mins

From Tarifa to Tangiers ... journey time ... 1hour 46mins

I wonder how many British registered vans with false number plates made that particular crossing of one hour forty six minutes in the week Madeleine went missing and where they had come from before arrival at Tarifa?
We'll never know, will we?

Are the plates identified back to a country with the flag symbol?

Goncalo Amaral was the case coordinator during the most important phase of the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance which is inclusive of the golden hours.

His own words attest in my opinion, to the importance any investigation with him at its head would give to a sighting of a live child.  Bearing in mind his much publicised opinion which wrote off Madeleine from the first day as dead and that she had died in the apartment on the night of her disappearance.

Dra Duarte asked a pertinent question of Amaral's second in command Paiva ... in my opinion the same question could well be directed to his former boss.

The Golden Hours is a generic term the duration of which varies case to case seemingly.

https://www.app.college.police.uk/app-content/investigations/investigation-process/#golden-hour
I have read it warts and all so there is no requirement for yellow highlighting accompanied by cries of Excalibur

The last sighting by independent witness 17:30. Alarm time (PJ arrived) 23.10 time lapsed = 5.67 hours.
or last sighting by parents together20:35 orlast sighting reported by G. McCann 21.08
https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2008/apr/11/madeleinemccann.[ I have used the Grauniad to provide consistency. I doubt timings to the minute make a lot of difference in a five hour period].
Shortest lapsed time = 2.03 hrs.

So time lapsed range = 2.03 hrs- 5.67 hours.

Now if you have a cite which pin points it better than that I would love to see it.

Of course we have yet to reconcile the comment in the archiving documentation to the effect "The apartment had been rummaged before the arrival of the GNR officers".
"Navigating the difference between weird but normal grief and truly suspicious behaviour is the key for any detective worth his salt.". ….Sarah Bailey

The news of this sighting was just one which emerged in the press at the time of the 5th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance. It wasn't the only one to involve a sighting in Spain, either. I found an interesting comment about these stories;

Eamonn Holmes: But you see, part of me just doubts whether this is true or not, or is it about just keeping the awareness, keeping the profile, keeping us all thinking about it? The parents may be complicit in this, I don't know,
and encouraging these stories and keeping them out just to keep people aware.

On May 3rd 2012 The Olive Press ran this;

A BRITISH expat has come forward believing to have seen Maddie McCann in Nerja – exactly five years since her disappearance.

Rose Johnson, 70,

In the comments beneath this article we see how they found Karen Sisson;
