Why would she have any reason to believe that various parents would all lie about something like this?

We know they are not in the released files and as they are probably not considered part of the case they would not be released. This leads us to the conclusion that the information came from other sources,  crimestoppers, the website, etc.

No you haven't. You have provided evidence that Kate had information which isn't in the PJ files. You are assuming that the information came from the files which remained under judicial secrecy. Judicial secrecy means information which only the Judiciary can access in my opinion.
