Unfortunately I agree with you. At the time perhaps there was something that could have been done although I don't know what.

Grime did say that Eddie had not made one false positive prior to the case but of course in this instance there is no way of checking as there was no corpse to find.

'False' positives are always a possibility; to date Eddie has not so indicated
operationally or in training. In six years of operational deployment in over 200
criminal case searches the dog has never alerted to meat based and
specifically pork foodstuffs designed for human consumption. Similarly the
dog has never alerted to 'road kill', that is any other dead animal.
My experience as a trainer is that false alerts are normally caused by handler
cueing. All indications by the dog are preceded by a change in bahaviour.
This increased handler confidence in the response. This procedure also stops
handlers 'cueing' and indication. The dogs are allowed to 'free search' and
investigate areas of interest. The handler does not influence their behaviour
other than to direct the search.

Was there a service crawl space under the apartments?

One of the ground floor apartments had some sort of underground basement didn't it?  I read about it and could quite picture what it was about.

Interesting Robittybob1 (can I call you Rob by the way?). I have read that Robert Murat's house had a basement but not the apartments.

I'll have a search now.

Would the dogs not have barked at the entrance or at the ground.  My friend had a untrained dog which barked at her kitched floor on return from holiday. after a week of the racket made by her dog- her husband pulled at the floor boards and found rats!! the same breed of  dogs grime used btw. If a body was down there I feel sure it would have picked this up.

When we lived in the countryside our dog took to listening intently then digging on the stairs. There were mice moving inside the walls up to and down from the attic. It only happened in winter because they were wild, not house mice. In summer they went back to living outside. She would kill a rat or a mouse without hesitation but was scared of birds due to me having a very confident pet bird who bullied her. Perhaps that's why she didn't tackle the moorhen on the upstairs landing.  @)(++(*

You should tell the experts it doesn’t sound right and let them work out what went wrong.
Point spectacularly missed, but never mind.

The Murat villa had a hidden space of some kind. Is that what you're thinking of?

No it was something like an employee had converted the basement into a room for his son.  It was all very strange.

Not at all, you posted an example that was particularly ambiguous.
