Now the farmhouse where the 55-year-old former primary schoolteacher was last seen alive, is on the market for £1.6million.

It is currently occupied by Adrian Prout's fiancée, Debbie Garlick, and their 17-month-old child.

The 41-year-old, who owns her own house in the village, said it was totally irrelevant to her where she lived.

"I'm not worried about downsizing," she said.

"All that matters is that Adrian is freed and that we can start living together, under the same roof, like any normal couple."

As "For Sale" signs went up at gated Redhill Farm on Wednesday, she revealed that Prout was planning to undergo a lie detector test to try to prove his innocence.

Detectives spent five weeks digging up fields on the arable farm in the belief Mrs Prout was buried there. They suspected her spouse – who also ran an underground pipe-laying business – of having the knowledge to conceal her body.

She was last seen alive on November 5, 2007, but no trace of her body has been found.

However, Prout was convicted of her murder at Bristol Crown Court 16 months ago.

With no forensic evidence available, the jury believed entries in Mrs Prout's diary that claimed Prout wanted to get rid of her.

Detectives believed she was killed in a row over a divorce settlement, despite him agreeing to increase a deal from £600,000 to £800,000.

Profit from the sale of the farm, after the outstanding £144,000 mortgage is settled, will be shared between Kate's grieving family and Prout, who is serving an 18-year jail sentence.

He is now awaiting permission from prison authorities to sit a two-hour lie detector test at HMP Garth, near Blackpool.

His fiancee, Ms Garlick, said: "If he fails it, he knows the risks, and what people will think of him.

"Adrian is not a killer.

"Its not only me saying it, every member of his and my family believe in his innocence and we won't give up protesting his innocence until he is freed."
