Nóra Quoirin: Police hunt for missing 15-year-old girl in Malaysia

Police in Malaysia are looking for a 15-year-old girl with an Irish passport who disappeared from her hotel bedroom at the weekend.

Nóra Quoirin’s father found she was missing from her room at the Dusun Hotel, in a nature reserve near Seremban, 63 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday morning, her family said. The window had been left open.

Her family are being supported by the Lucie Blackman Trust, a British charity. Her aunt, Aisling Agnew, said in a statement released by the trust that they considered her disappearance to be a criminal matter.

Ms Agnew, from Belfast, said: “Nóra’s parents and relatives in Ireland and France are distraught by her disappearance. Nóra is a child with special needs and has learning and developmental disabilities which make her especially vulnerable and we fear for her safety.

“Nóra would not know how to get help and would never leave her family voluntarily. We now consider this a criminal matter. We are appealing to everyone to assist the local police in any way they can and to pass on any information that would help locate our beloved Nóra without delay.”

Nóra’s parents are an Irish-French couple who have been living in London for 20 years, the trust said.

Che Zakaria Bin Othman, the deputy police chief for Negeri Sembilan state, said: “So far, there’s no indication of foul play; however, the investigation is still ongoing.”

He said that police had met Nóra’s family and Irish and French embassy officials on Sunday and yesterday.

“All officials are still up there at the hotel, we discussed with them all, and God willing, we will continue the search until it is successful,” he said.

The Lucie Blackman Trust insisted the family had been told that police were treating Nóra’s disappearance as a criminal matter.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the organisation said: “Contrary to several reports that police are NOT treating Nóra’s disappearance as an abduction, the family have been told directly by police that they are treating it as both an abduction and missing persons case.”

Nora Quoirin cops probe sighting of ‘white woman’ swimming in Malaysian jungle river - as scent found by sniffer dogs mysteriously vanishes
A "WHITE woman" has reportedly been seen swimming in a Malaysian jungle river where cops are searching for missing Brit Nora Quoirin.

Sniffer dogs trying to track down the 15-year-old London girl initially picked up her scent within 4,000 feet of the remote resort she disappeared from at the weekend, but there's no trace of her beyond that range, say police.

Sky News said that cops are investigating reports that the teen might have been spotted – as a “white woman” was apparently seen swimming in a river not far away, on Sunday afternoon.

Police have only received this information in the past few hours and are currently following it up, but are said to be unsure as to whether the eyewitness's account is correct.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Mohamad Mat Yusop told reporters today: "We will do our very best. We will not give up hope. We believe that she didn't go far and that she had lost her way."

Mohamad said rescuers earlier today had repeated their search around the perimeter of the Dusun hill resort Nora had been staying with her family, because they believed she was still within the vicinity.

He said they would now focus on the foothill of the jungle resort near a river, based on the assumption that she would be in a weak state and could head downhill to find water and food.

Nora’s family said they discovered her missing from her bedroom at the Dusun eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state on Sunday morning with the window left open.

More than 170 people have been involved in the search operation, with a helicopter, sniffer dogs and local villagers aiding in the expanded comb through the dense jungle, Mohamad said, adding that the search would continue through the night.

Local indigenous people, Orang Asli, are also helping to look for the girl.

LEARNING DISABILITIES

The parents of Nora Quoirin, who has learning and developmental disabilities, are an Irish-French couple who've lived in London for about 20 years, according to the Lucie Blackman Trust, a British charity support people during a crisis overseas.

In a statement, they said: "We are especially worried because Nora has learning and developmental disabilities and is not like other 15 year olds.

"She looks younger, she is not capable of taking care of herself and she won't understand what is going on.

"She never goes anywhere by herself. We have no reason to believe she wandered off and is lost."

Nora's relatives have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to fund the search.

It says: "Her parents and our families in Ireland and France are distraught by her disappearance.

"Nora is a child with special needs... which make her especially vulnerable and we fear for her safety.

"Nora would not know how to get help and would never leave her family voluntarily.

"Local police now consider this a criminal matter and are treating it as an abduction."

The total raised has surpassed the £6,000 target, with donors giving nearly £23,000 to help find her.

The family are convinced it is a criminal matter but local police initially said there were no signs of foul play.

However they later revised their opinion saying that Nora had been “taken” but not “abducted”.

RESORT STAFF 'PRAYING HARD'

Haanim Bamadhaj, a resort spokesman, said the Dusun management is baffled by Nora's disappearance.

Resort staff and even some guests had earlier joined in the search.

She said: "Our resort has been operating for 10 years and we have never even been robbed. We are doing our very best and praying hard."

Following Nora's disappearance, she said some guests had cancelled their bookings and that the resort had provided full refunds. Access to the site has been blocked due to the search operation.

Villagers who joined in the search expressed concern over the missing girl's fate.

Bali anak Akau said: "This particular jungle, for outsiders, they don't know how to navigate, they get lost. Natives like me, we are used to this jungle."

A member of staff at the hotel told The Sun Online there is "no way of knowing" if the window was opened from the outside or the inside of Nora's room. The area is not covered by CCTV.

'TRIP OF A LIFETIME'

The teen arrived on Saturday with her parents and two siblings at Dunsun - in a nature reserve near Seremban, 39 miles south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

It was the start of a two-week "trip of a lifetime" with her mum, dad and two siblings, a family friend said.

Nora's mum Meabh is originally from Belfast while her father is French - with her parents having lived in London for around 20 years.

Matthew Searle, CEO of the Lucie Blackman Trust, said: "This is a very vulnerable young girl missing in a remote location.

Matthew Searle, Lucie Blackman Trust
"She has been missing for over 24 hours now, and it is imperative that every resource available is deployed to search for her.

"It is possible she has been seen or taken in by somebody and is unable to communicate, so we urge everyone who can to share our appeal poster and social media appeals.

"Sadly it is also possible that Nóra has been the victim of serious crime – we urge anyone with any information to come forward."

REMOTE RESERVE

The Dusun is a 12-acre orchard resort next to the Berembun Forest Reserve - 4,000 acres of protected virgin forest rising to 3,900 feet.

The forest has wild boar, deer, giant millipedes, monkeys and leeches, according to the resort's website.

There are two small villages near the resort where the majority of residents work in farming of the local land.

Nora is understood to have been travelling on an Irish passport.

A spokesman for Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs said: "We are aware of the case and providing consular assistance."

I hope sincerely that this girl is recovered safe and well soon. Her family however are absolutely convinced she would not wake and wander, even though she is 15.

Why does her age make the two cases a world apart? Both sets of parents are convinced their children were abducted.

He’s right, there are definite similarities.

Looks like the Malaysian Police won't make the same mistakes as the PJ by not accepting abduction from the bedroom as a foregone conclusion. They appear to think the girl went out on her own and either got lost or was then abducted.

And so it begins, a comment in the Times I have just read:

“Her aunt has now - after a week - shared it publicly in an interview. Everyone's natural instinct is to feel very worried and compassionate for this family, but there is a lot about the case that feels very staged. I hope to be proved wrong”.

The similarities get stronger by the day.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The family of Nóra Quoirin, 15, whose mother Meabh is from Belfast and whose father Sebastien is French, have today released the following statement.

“Nóra is a very special person. She is fun, funny, and extremely loving. With her family, she is very affectionate - family is her whole world and she loves to play games, like Cat Bingo, with us. She likes to tell us silly jokes and wear clever, colourful t-shirts. She is not like other teenagers. She is not independent and does not go anywhere alone. Nóra was born with Holoprosencephaly; this means that she has a smaller brain. All her life she has spent a lot of time in hospital. When she was born, she needed operations to help her breathing. She has specialists that monitor her growth, her physical abilities and her strength, and especially her mental capacity. Nóra has always needed dedicated specialist educational provision, and now attends a school for children and young people with learning and communication difficulties.
Nóra and her family are bi-lingual and bi-cultural. Nóra is very proud that she can speak French as well as English. But her verbal communication is limited. Nóra can read like a young child, but she cannot write more than a few words. She has a good memory but she cannot understand anything conceptual. She is unable to do maths and so things like money are impossible to manage. She cannot make or receive phone calls independently. She can wash and dress herself, though she cannot manage buttons, and struggles to wash her hair. At school, she is learning to ride a bicycle properly. Nóra likes to walk with her family, but her balance is limited and she struggles with coordination. She has been to Asia, and many European countries before, and has never wandered off or got lost. Nóra is very sensitive. Outside the family, Nóra is very shy and can be quite anxious. Every night, her special time is for cuddles and a night-time story with her Mum. And she was extremely excited about the family holiday in Malaysia.”

That is the end of the statement. The family would again like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the Royal Malaysian Police, and all those searching for Nóra. Some of these people have been working all day, every day and the family cannot express their gratitude enough.

They would do the child a grave disservice if they did not investigate ALL possibilities. IMO

The Dusun resort in Malaysia from which Nora Quoinn disappeared is fascinating. It is pretty small with guests (up to 20 adults) staying in just 6 or maybe 7 houses. Children stay free. The houses are separated as peace and quiet is what's on offer. Some of the houses seem less secure than others by our standatds

The jungle is a 20 minute walk away and there's a fee to enter it.

Yes, I looked it up too. Apparently the family were staying in the modern dwelling with the spiral staircase (though I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere). There doesn’t seem to have been air-con in any of them which means windows and verandahs would almost certainly have been left open. As someone who lived in the country for many years break-ins were commonplace. We were burgled at least 4 times in 10 years, the first time the burglars gained access by the open verandah of our second floor flat. We were all present at the time and the burglar entered our bedrooms where we slept on oblivious. I was six at the time, there but for the grace of god and all that...

Missing Nora Quoirin: Shamans and cadaver dogs brought in to find Brit, 15, in Malaysia

Shamans joined the hunt for missing London teen Nora Quoirin after 15-year-old went missing in the Malaysian jungle

Cadaver dogs and shamans have joined the hunt for a 15-year-old London girl who's been missing in Malaysia for more than a week.

Around 350 personnel have been searching dense jungle and a river for Nora Quoirin, who vanished from her family's holiday cottage on August 4.

Shamans went into trances as they performed rituals to summon spirits who they believe can assist the search in the snake-infested jungle.

Officers from Scotland Yard and the National Crime Agency are also helping in the effort to find the Franco-Irish teen, and Irish hostage and kidnap specialists are on standby.

As the search entered its ninth day on Monday, Malaysian officials vowed to carry on while focusing on a mountain close to the Dusun resort where the Quoirins were staying.

It has also been revealed that Nora was barefoot when she went missing.

More than £100,000 has been donated to help Nora's mum Meabh and dad Sebastien, who have been urged to consider offering a cash reward.

Nora's family have said they believe the teen, who was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and has special needs, was abducted.

Malaysian officials have said there was "no proof" she was kidnapped, but they were not ruling out any possibilities.

Police believe she wandered off from the cottage. A window was open when the teen was discovered missing.

On Monday, search teams went through the jungle with cadaver dogs and five shamans offered help.

The men performed a ritual together in the forest.

The group's representative, Mohd Khalid Mohamed, told Front Desk: “When the incident happened in the village, it made us want to come here and offer help using other alternative ways to locate the missing teenager.

"We hope this child can be found safe."

With authorities from Britain, Ireland and France all now helping the search, trackers were going through steep terrain made even more dangerous due to recent rainfall.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke visited the site to meet search and rescue teams and offer the government's support.

The jet-lagged Quoirins - including Nora's 12-year-old sister and eight-year-old brother - checked into the Dusun resort resort near Seremban, about an hour south of Kuala Lumpur, on August 3.

Nora went to bed in an upstairs room and was discovered missing at 8am the following morning, according to her family.

It is believed she was barefoot and wearing her night clothes.

Search teams have used drones and helicopters with thermal imaging and gone through the jungle playing a recording of 45-year-old Mrs Quoirin's voice.

Known paedophiles have been interviewed and police have visited the homes of at least 30 local people as part of the hunt.

Mrs Quoirin, originally from Belfast, and 47-year-old Mr Quoirin, who is from France, have lived in London for 20 years.

The couple, who currently reside in Balham, thanked those involved in looking for her during an emotional speech on Saturday.

"You have given up your time especially at a special festival time," said Ms Quoirin, referring to Hari Raya Haji, the Islamic "festival of sacrifice" celebrations.

In a video broadcast on local media, she added: "We want to say thank you to each and every one of you. We know you're searching night and day for Nora.

"We see you working so hard and also praying with us and being with us."

The family have said they remain hopeful after police leading the investigation refused to rule out a "criminal element".

A spokeswoman for the NCA said: "The National Crime Agency, the Met Police and the Irish police are working together to help and support the Malaysian authorities relating to Nora Quoirin's disappearance."

I'm finding it hard to believe an abductor could have carried her from her bed, down the stairs & out of the window.

She isn't a baby, must weigh about 7 stone or so, the abductor would have to be rather strong IMO

Nora was sleeping in the same room as her younger siblings and her parents were in a bedroom a few feet away.

She was discovered missing by her father Sebastien at around 8am and a downstairs door was wide open.

They have told police they did not hear anything and there were no signs of a struggle.

The only clue to the teen's disappearance was an open ground floor window, which police believe she climbed out and then wandered into the jungle.

One theory is that she woke up early jet lagged after her 12hour flight from London and, disorientated at being in a strange bedroom, got up and left.

Police have said there is no sign of any intruder entering the property.

They have not found any footprints inside the villa or forensic evidence to suggest an unknown person was inside.

The entire area around the villa where the family were staying is covered with soggy vegetation and the single-track road leading to the resort is covered with mud.

Had someone entered through the window and climbed a flight of stairs to an upstairs bedroom where Nora was sleeping it is assumed there would have been traces of mud on the floor.

It is because of the lack of evidence of any crime that police are treating the case as primarily that of a missing person.

An open window and open door would suggest that if those facts are true. She would exit through the door so why open a window?

It's difficult to know which report to believe.

Was the front door open or not?

I'm inclined to believe the initial reports that only the window was open because otherwise her parents wouldn't have ruled out her wandering off so soon.
I think the Daily Mail may have made a mistake.

A forensics team has been examining the prints, and cops confirmed last week they believed Nora could only have left the property through that window.

After it was found propped open, her family said it would have been impossible for Nora to have opened it on her own.

But the area outside apparently was wet & muddy according to the report PF posted earlier & no muddy footprints were found.
The floor tiles are white so footprints would be obvious imo.
Likewise though, if the area is muddy, why weren't any footprints found outside the window.
It's a pretty narrow window by the looks of it. I still can't imagine anyone being able to carry her out of it.

Malays never enter a house with their shoes on, sandals or flip flops would be taken off before entering, no mud. Why do you insist she was carried, not frog-marched out of the house?

She was sharing the room with her 12 year old sister & 9 year old brother I believe.
However, the whole family were probably jet lagged from their 12 hour flight.

What would you know about abducting 15 year olds from their bed? You’d have thought it would be impossible for an intruder to rape and murder a child in a first floor room that was full of the child’s sleeping dorm mates but it happened.

Do you know of many 15-year-olds who have been abducted from a bedroom?

The fact that they had just arrived is a bit odd too imo. It's not as if they had been days into their holiday and were seen around the village by some predator.

A body has been found by teams searching for missing British teenager Nora Quoirin who vanished in Malaysia.

An officer told the Mirror: "We think we have found a body, but we need to confirm it is her. Please be patient. We will let you know as soon as it's confirmed."

Two forensics vans as well as other police vehicles have been seen entering the area, which is now sealed off with police tape.

The discovery was made as the search entered its tenth day in the jungle surrounding the eco-resort in Dusun, where Nora was staying with her family.

The 15-year-old, who has special needs, was reported missing on August 4 after her father discovered she had gone and a downstairs window was wide open.

Around 350 people had joined the search for Nora, in dense jungle and a river.

Yesterday, cadaver dogs and shamans joined the hunt for the teen.

Nora Quoirin: Body found in search for missing London teenager in Malaysia

The Lucie Blackman Trust said it is "likely" that the body found in the search is that of the missing 15-year-old. 8

Police in Malaysia say they have found a body in the search for missing London teenager Nora Quoirin.

Nora, 15, was reported missing on 4 August while on a family holiday at a jungle resort near Seremban, around an hour south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Police have confirmed that rescuers have found a body near to where she was reported missing.

A spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which is handling media enquiries for Nora's family said it is "likely" the body is that of the missing teenager.

In a statement, the LBT said: "The Lucie Blackman Trust can confirm a body has been found in the search for Nora Quoirin.

"At this time we cannot confirm it is Nora. However it sadly seems likely.

"Investigations are under way to confirm identity and cause of death.

"The charity will update as soon as possible."

Hundreds of people joined the search operation to try to find Nora, who was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and has special needs.

Nora's mother made a heartfelt plea on Monday to find her, and a £10,000 reward was offered for information leading to her safe return.

Her parents, Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, thanked those looking for her, many of which are volunteers, as a fundraiser for the family reached £100,000.

On Monday, Ms Quoirin said: "Nora is our first child.

"She has been vulnerable since the day she was born.

"She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking. We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us find her."

Nora's father found she was not in her bedroom on the morning of 4 August, when he went in and discovered the window was open. A family friend said it was "out of character" for her to "go wandering off".

At the early stages of the investigation, police in Malaysia said there was no evidence of foul play, but her family repeatedly insisted she had been abducted.

As the days continued, police investigated footprints in the forest as well as fingerprints on the open window of a downstairs hallway in the resort where Nora and her family were staying.

At the end of last week, her parents gave more details of her special needs, clarifying that she can read like a young child, but cannot write more than a few words, and cannot do maths, making money impossible to manage.

She also cannot make or receive phone calls independently.

TRAGIC FIND Nora Quoirin’s cops find ‘white-skinned, female body’ near waterfall in Malaysian jungle a mile from hotel where missing Brit girl, 15, vanished

THE body of white-skinned female has been found in the search for missing Brit Nora Quoirin, the police chief leading the hunt has said today.

Cops used a helicopter and sniffer dogs in an expanded search for the 15-year-old London girl who disappeared from her bedroom at a nature resort 10 days ago.

Mohammed Yusop, the state police chief, said: “I can confirm a body has been found in the Betembum mountains. It is not in an accessible place.”

The white-skinned body was intact and forensic and a pathologist were on the scene which has been sealed off, he said.

A spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which is handling media enquiries for Nora's family said it is "likely" the body found is that of the missing teenager.

A source told the Mirror: “The police need to confirm it’s definitely Nora, because the local population bury their relatives in shallow graves in the area. They are trying to get down there now.”

Nora’s family says they discovered her missing from her bedroom at the Dusun eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state on Sunday morning with the window left open.

The family are convinced it is a criminal matter but local police initially said there were no signs of foul play.

However they later revised their opinion saying that Nora had been “taken” but not “abducted”.

District police chief Mohamad Nor Marzukee Besar said rescuers scoured areas surrounding the resort until 3 a.m. Tuesday but found no clues.

He said the operation involving over 160 people resumed later Tuesday morning, with a helicopter, sniffer dogs and villagers aiding in an expanded comb through the dense jungle.

"We also searched at night but so far, there are no new leads. The operation is ongoing," he told The Associated Press by phone, adding that further updates will be given at a news conference later.

The parents of Nora Quoirin, who has learning and developmental disabilities, are an Irish-French couple who've lived in London for about 20 years, according to the Lucie Blackman Trust, a British charity support people during a crisis overseas.

A member of staff at the hotel told The Sun Online there is 'no way of knowing' if the window was opened from the outside or the inside. The area is not covered by CCTV.

'TRIP OF A LIFETIME'
The teen had only arrived a day earlier with her parents and two siblings at the resort - in a nature reserve near Seremban, 39 miles south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

It was the start of a two-week "trip of a lifetime" with her mum, dad and two siblings, a family friend said.

Nora's mum Meabh is originally from Belfast while her father is French - with her parents having lived in London for around 20 years.

Speaking from Belfast, the girl's aunt Aisling Agnew said: "Nora is a child with special needs and has learning and developmental disabilities which make her especially vulnerable and we fear for her safety.

"Nora would not know how to get help and would never leave her family voluntarily. We now consider this a criminal matter."

LBT said this morning that a heavy police presence has been deployed - including sniffer dogs - as part of the desperate search.

Mr Searle added: "This is a very vulnerable young girl missing in a remote location.

The family has set up an email address where information can be passed on at findnoraq@gmail.com.

The LBT has also provided a hotline and email address for information.

People can remain anonymous and can call +448000988485 or email ops@lbtrust.org.

A lot of what is produced in papers is simply info gathered from others and then regurgitated. How many reporters are on the ground in the resort?

There's nothing on Reuters:

I can't find anything in The Guardian and only small articles in Independent and Telegraph probably copied from elsewhere as opposed to direct reporting.

Only the British tabloids have the case as a headline story.

Probably because they view her as a British child. Other countries will naturally be less interested - IMO

An officer at the scene said rescue teams were attempting to reach the body which is difficult to access.

Hours before the body was found volunteer searcher Shirley Yap told Mailonline they were going to look around a waterfall.

She said: 'We had heard she was excited about seeing a waterfall when she arrived in the resort.

'We are going to look around that area and follow the stream down the mountain'

SEREMBAN: The body of a “female Caucasian” has been found by rescuers searching for Nora Anne Quoirin, the Irish teen who went missing from a resort here on Aug 4.

However, police have yet to confirm whether this was the body of the 15-year-old special needs teenager.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said the body was found at 1.57pm about 2km from the resort.

“My deputy (Senior Assistant Commissioner Che Zakaria Othman) and forensics unit policemen went in at 2.05pm and reached the site at 2.30pm,” he told reporters.

However, that was all the information Mohamad could provide at the moment.

Or maybe they're just a little slow at reporting.

But one thing is certain, a white girls body has been found close to where Nora went missing.

The waterfall seems to be the main/only attraction in the area. Guided parties are taken from the resort. It's a 20 minute walk to the jungle entrance, where people pay an entry fee. It's then about an hour to the waterfall, I think. I don't know if the jungle is fenced at all, the payments may be just to help with the upkeep as it's a nature reserve.

Nora Quoirin: Body found in Malaysia is missing girl

The parents of Nora Quoirin have identified a body found in Malaysia as that of the missing teenager.

Nora, who had special needs, was on holiday with her family when she disappeared from her room at the Dusun resort on 4 August.

Police said the 15-year-old Londoner's parents have confirmed the body found by a search team on Tuesday was their daughter.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Wednesday.

About 350 people had been hunting for Nora, who was of Irish-French descent, in dense jungle near the resort.

Her body was found just over a mile (2km) away from the Dusun, according to BBC correspondent Howard Johnson.

Malaysia's deputy police chief Mazlan Mansor said Nora was found beside a stream in a "quite hilly" area of plantation, and was "not in any clothing".

Authorities have been treating Nora's disappearance as a missing persons case, but her family have said they believe she may have been abducted.

Her cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Nora was born with holoprosencephaly, a disorder which affects brain development, and her family said she was "not independent and does not go anywhere alone".

On Monday, her parents Meabh and Sebastien, a French-Irish couple who have lived in London for 20 years, put up a 50,000 Malaysian ringgit (£10,000) reward for help to find her.

While announcing the reward, they described their daughter as being "so precious to us", adding their "hearts are breaking".

More than £110,000 has been donated on two crowdfunding sites set up by relatives to cover costs incurred by the family during the 10-day search.

Over £98,000 has been raised on a page set up by Nora's aunt, while a second created by her uncle which allows people to pay in euros has reached more than €17,500 (£16,000).

Investigators previously said they had not ruled out a "criminal element" in the teenager's disappearance.

Nora, her parents and her younger brother and sister arrived at the resort in a nature reserve near Seremban, about 39 miles south of Kuala Lumpur, on 3 August for a two-week stay.

Her father raised the alarm at 08:00 local time the next day after she was discovered missing from her bedroom.

Search teams were assisted by local Orang Asli people, who have knowledge of the jungle terrain, while two shamans also joined the operation.

The National Crime Agency (NCA), the Met Police, Irish and French police have also been providing support to Malaysian authorities.

Irish President Michael D Higgins has offered his "deepest condolences" to Nora's family and thanked Malaysian authorities for their search efforts.

"Our thoughts and prayers are now with Nora's family, at this most difficult time," he said.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar tweeted: "Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Nora Quoirin's parents, siblings and wider family at this unimaginably difficult time."

In a statement, France's Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs said French police remain "at the disposal of the Malaysian authorities so that light can be shed on the circumstances of her death".

Missing persons charity the Lucie Blackman Trust said it was "thinking of the family and continue to support them as they come to terms with this news".

St Bede's School in south London, which Nora attended, has opened its doors to allow the community "to join in prayer for Nora and her family... in this heartbreaking and horrific moment".

A tragic but predictable outcome. I feel so sad for Nora and for her family. At least they know, and won’t be spending years and years fruitlessly searching and hoping against hope. Now they need the help of the authorities to find out what happened amd who, if anyone, was responsible. It seems to be abduction is highly probable.

Do you know of many 15-year-olds who have been abducted from a bedroom?

The fact that they had just arrived is a bit odd too imo. It's not as if they had been days into their holiday and were seen around the village by some predator.
Why does the quantity of 15 year olds abducted from a bedroom have any relevance to this case? Are you about to trot out some Cheeky Monkey style nonsense statistics?

Why?
The main English Language Malaysian newspapers are the Straits Times and the Malay Mail.

To be fair, in their media appearances, they looked genuinely distressed at the loss of their daughter, unlike the McCann's IMO.

Plus, they probably answered all police questions, didn't delete their call history & Nora's father wasn't seen carrying her away.

So it seems you are prepared to consider the possibility that Nora was abducted from her holiday apartment in the middle of the night by a stranger, via a window, whilst her apartment was occupied by 4 other individuals who didn’t wake up. Surely this is impossible?

I think the police will probably conclude no foul play and at that point the family should IMO accompany Nora’s body back to the UK and get a second opinion.

Your opinion of my post is of no consequence- in fact quite funny you would think it will have any affect. I am entitled to my opinion regarding using missing children to set up funds, what for?

It is an absolute disgrace that only 1% was offered as a reward, and you have no evidence that this sum was the reason Nóra was found - so clam up with the insults. And as much as you think you are a special member with special powers do not dare to tell me to keep my comments to myself- you don't like them DON'T read them!

Why, apart from sheer greed, would any family require two funds. and only use a tiny amount as a reward ew!

They had French, British, Irish, Maylasian police ALL involved in her search. The police quite rightly didn't walk about with the abduction theory as a given- they were looking at many scenarios as one would expect. So no claims about rubbish foreign police officers?

I do hope they give the money to a local charity, and not stash it- then my opinion would change!

Indeed another Madeliene - go global with it.

I am deeply saddened by two things:
1. lovely Nóra has been found dead.
2. a go fund me fund had been set up why? over 90thousand pounds has been pledged and they only offered 10 thousand for information I mean WTF. THEN the uncle starts another fund.
OMG I find this utterly disgusting.

I agree MTI. The sum offered was derisory in the circumstances.

The sum was huge when you consider the average wages of most Malays in the area. And it appeared to have worked.

Maths is obviously not your strong point is it? A £10,000 reward was not 1% of the fund, but 10%. The day after the reward was announced someone just so happened to find the body. So, now you’re accusing Nora’s family of “sheer greed”? How very pleasant of you. Both funds were started days before Nora’s body was found, the unlce started the second fund because he thought some people might prefer to donate in euros not pounds. Since Nora’s body has been found the money has continued to flow in, but no one is forcing people to donate, nor presumably are any of the donors bothered if the money is not used for “the search” because Nora has been found. I am sure there are plenty of costs to be covered for a family in this situation and they must be very grateful to all those who have donated. What they do with the money is none of your business, in fact I hope they keep it and use it to pay off their mortgage just to really piss you off.

Appeared? eh? yeah ok. So no evidence it worked then- just you mouthing off with that usual psudo anger on behalf of people you do not know. Nice.

And so what you are saying is the poor population should be bloody greatful for a pittance offered because they are poor and the wealthy family should get to keep the rest because they are wealthy. well how about that. sheesh

I have not discussed the parents I am talking about the family. I couldn't care less what they spend the blood money on- I hope they enjoy it. Party ,Party ,Party hard for all I care. a child was missing and the 'family' thought oh let us beg for money by selling a sob story. It is undignified and disrespectful for Little Nóra.

Setting up a seperate account for various currencies- seriously sick! Money grabbing.

Probably because they haven't been surrounding themselves with lawyers and PR merchants.
Malaysian lawyer Sankara N Nair, who has been hired by Nora’s parents to act on their behalf, today spoke outside the mortuary where her autopsy is now being carried out.

Asked when he was hired by the family, he said: "I have been engaged from the second day after Nora went missing.

The family’s spokesman Matthew Searle, of the Lucie Blackman Trust, said parents Meabh, 45, and Sebastien, 47, still have “a large amount of questions”.

Why would it be considered reprehensible for a family such as Nora's or Madeleine's to seek as much support as is humanly possible given the Hellish circumstances they find themselves in so far from home and without familiar support mechanisms to turn to such as family, friends and authorities?

Why should they be criticised for doing the best they can in an unfamiliar country when there is the added torment of being unfamiliar with the language of that country?

Nora Quoirin died from internal bleeding thought to be caused by prolonged hunger and stress, Malaysian police have said.

Authorities on Thursday said there was currently no evidence of kidnapping in the London teenager's disappearance, and said the post-mortem did not find any sign she had been sexually abused.

The remains of the 15-year-old, who was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and was described by her family as "vulnerable", were found on Tuesday near a jungle stream 10 days after she went missing from a rainforest resort in Seremban.

The family stated that the teen wasn't independent and had difficulty walking, adding that she had never wandered off or got lost before
'We know you are searching night and day for Nora'
She had been on holiday at the eco resort in Malaysia with her parents and two siblings.

Nora's devastated family said their "hearts are broken" and paid tribute to her as "the truest, most precious girl".

They said she had "truly touched the world" after her disappearance sparked a huge search operation and well-wishes across the globe.

Her family's lawyer earlier said they hoped police would investigate foul play.

More from World

Nora went missing on 4 August, with her father raising the alarm when he went into the room she was sharing with her two siblings at 8am and discovering she was gone.

Her family said they believed she had been abducted, but police in Malaysia treated it as a missing persons case for several days.

How devastating for the parents to be told this. If true it shows how incredibly dense and difficult the jungle terrain was, either that or the search was not conducted as well as it could have been.

British schoolgirl Nora Quoirin was ALIVE for a WEEK before she died from internal bleeding caused by starvation after she got lost in Malaysian jungle, autopsy reveals
Tragic teenager Nora Quiorin was alive in the Malaysian jungle for a week while rescue teams desperately searched for her before she died from intestinal damage caused by hunger and stress, police have revealed today.

The 15-year-old had no signs of physical or sexual violence on her body, pathologists revealed after a 12-hour autopsy, following fears that she could have been kidnapped and killed before her remains were dumped.

The post-mortem result will add further agony to her parents as it meant she had been alive and lost in the jungle for a week while hundreds of search and rescue personnel looked for her.

The remains of the 15-year-old, who vanished on August 4 while on holiday with her family, were discovered naked near a waterfall Tuesday just 1.5miles from where she disappeared.

Her body was taken to a hospital Seremban where pathologists carried out a post-mortem, with the results revealed at a press conference this morning.

Four pathologists had carried out a 12-hour autopsy to determine cause of death after the special needs teen was found following a 10 day search.

The ruptured intestine was most likely caused by stress brought by not eating any food.

Police chief Mohammed Yusop said she had not eaten any food and this was a factor in her death.

Addressing a packed press conference the police chief said her leg had scratches but there was no other sign of violence.

Further tests will be carried out at a laboratory for chemical analysis.

Nora’s parent were this morning informed of the results

So the police were right and the parents were wrong. Seems she was much more capable than the parents have led us all to believe, questions must surely be asked about this now?

Reminds me of another case where a young girl disappeared and the parents claimed she had been abducted through a window.

Parents think they know their children, but do they? My children surprised me sometimes by doing things I didn't think they could or would be able to do. Luckily they were pleasant surprises.

I was quite upset about poor Nóra. However, I was relieved she was not abducted by paedophiles.

Re: MBM -The similarities are quite striking.

Having seen the window and with Nóra being on the second floor- her weight and height, again with the MBM case, it just doesn't ring true about her being carried downstairs and through a window - a very narrow one at that. I am not saying it didn't happen. I just do not believe it did, based on the evidence offered by police.

Being a jungle with large wild animals and snakes it is a wonder she lasted that long on her own. Dying of starvation makes sense as we are told she could not feed herself etc.

Some questions I hope are answered:
1. why would she be naked- was her clothes near her?
2. rumour (1)- she was found in a very difficult place to get access to- so how did she get there ? a fall,by accident being dehydtrated and delarious at later stages.
rumour (2)- suspected the body was moved as that area was already searched- who moved it and why?

It is interesting that already the police are being blamed for :

However, with over 100 thousand pounds at their disposal they can afford a great interpreter!

lol Carly dug up the Sun- 'great read' and another cash cow for the sun for many years to come.

Blaming the police of a cover up to save the resorts reputation. I am sure I heard that before.

In the McCann case the parents are accused of refusing to consider woke and wandered to cover up for their “neglect”, what do you think the Quorins motive was, other than genuinely believing Nora would not wander off on her own?

They obviously don’t use enhanced tracker dogs in Malaysia. The poor girl was a mile or so from where she had been staying, and found next to the waterfall she was apparently so excited to be visiting. How come the dogs were unable to follow her scent through the jungle, what with her being barefoot and all?

And so it begins, a comment in the Times I have just read:

“Her aunt has now - after a week - shared it publicly in an interview. Everyone's natural instinct is to feel very worried and compassionate for this family, but there is a lot about the case that feels very staged. I hope to be proved wrong”.

The similarities get stronger by the day.

I was impressed by the actions of the Malaysian authorities, but I see British arrogance is being displayed again. Jim Gamble pontificating once more about case reviews. I'd like to see examples of which lessons UK police have learned from them and how they helped later investigators to avoid mistakes.

He now says the downstairs window lock was broken, so it couldn't be secured. Blaming the resort now that it seems there's no abductor?

Yes, the blame game has now begun. The parents are blaming everyone but themselves. It was the resort's fault, the police messed up etc etc... heard it all before. I have spoken to numerous people who work with special needs children and adults and without exception they say that the child was not properly supervised in such a strange environment, I put the blame squarely with Nora's parents.

Nora Quoirin’s family have said they still have many questions about how their teenage daughter died in the Malaysian jungle as they prepare to bring her body home to London.

The 15-year-old’s unclothed body was found on Tuesday beside a waterfall about a mile and a half from the eco-resort where they were staying. The discovery was made nine days after she went missing from her bedroom.

A post-mortem examination by Malaysian police concluded that Nora, who had learning difficulties, died of starvation after wandering in the jungle for up to a week. They said that any suggestion of abduction was ruled out “for the time being”.

“The cause of death was upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to duodenal ulcer, complicated with perforation... it could be due to a lack of food for a long period of time and due to prolonged stress,” Mohamad Mat Yusop, a police chief, said this week.

A source on the search team said, however, that she could not have walked to the place where she was found dead by herself. “The average gradient of the slopes where Nora was found range from 20 to 40 per cent,” the source told the Daily Mail. “You have to cross two reasonably deep streams to reach the area. The terrain by the stream is very slippery. The roots and rocks are wet. My boots were destroyed by the end and Nora was barefoot.”

Her Irish-French parents, Meabh and Sebastien, said that they were “struggling to understand the events of the last ten days”. They want more answers about what had happened in the days after her disappearance, they said.

After meeting the Malaysian deputy prime minister yesterday, Nora’s family said in a statement: “The initial post-mortem results have given some information that helps us to understand Nora’s cause of death. But our beautiful, innocent girl died in extremely complex circumstances and we are hoping that soon we will have more answers to our many questions.”

A former police officer who has been advising the family urged the authorities to keep an open mind about the cause of her death. Jim Gamble said on the Breakfast programme on BBC One: “The family have always had a question mark of whether there was any criminal activity, and I think everyone should retain an open mind.”

Nora went missing on August 4 from a holiday villa in the Pantai Hills near Dusun. She died between two and four days before her body was discovered by hikers.

The search involved 350 people as well as a helicopter and sniffer dogs. Mr Gamble said: “In the villa we do know that the downstairs window was broken so it couldn’t have been locked by the family and could have been opened from outside. We know why Nora died, in simple terms from starvation, we know where she ended up. But we don’t necessarily know how she got there.”

Police sources in Malaysia disclosed that British and French officers had been carrying out their own investigations. Two officers who stayed will report on their findings, a source told Mail Online.

Nora had the brain defect holoprosencephaly and learning difficulties that meant she struggled with everyday tasks. Her parents have said that she had limited speech and co-ordination.

The family have said they will bring Nora’s body home “where she will finally be laid to rest, close to her loving families in France and Ireland”.

They also thanked the Malaysian authorities and search parties for helping to locate Nora. “Tragically, as we know, this wasn’t enough to save Nora,” they said.

I wonder if the source got this wrong. why would British be involved in the investigation- she isn't British!

Nora has a Irish Passport they have lived in the UK many years (20). I just wonder why the British are involved using tax payers money on another missing child, who has been found on this occasion thankfully.

I feel we should pull this in and stop trying to solve other peoples issues and concentrate our funds and resources to our own country.

You maybe are correct- they are confused about her nationality.

She lived in London her whole life, I have no problem with the Met helping to find her.

Because they do not have the resources to track down those known ones- nothing -apart from let the authorities in that country deal with it. Why make a special case for non British citizen. Let the Maylasian s deal wth their crimes. If French and Irish wasnt to join in so be it. British have enough problems over here.

I believe they're British citizens and Nora was born and bred in UK?

On what basis are UK involved other than the normal assistance through embassy/consular?

It would seem there has been a quiet family funeral for young Nóra Quoirin. No huge media interest/backlash to suggest she was abducted at all- so again the money raised to 'find her' has also been unspoken of in MSM.

The story has died completely...

Just when we thought the story died I find something new to be worrying...

Apparently, the parents individually of each other claim they heard sounds that night. Dad couldn't really describe them as he was half asleep, next to him in bed also half asleep and unknown to him- his wife also hears 'sounds' like people whispering'

Neither go to check on their children because they were half asleep. Hmmmm

Not only did they have a fund to 'find' Nora, of which we hear nothing about, they are suing the resort for negligence due to a faulty window? Cha ching!. that will help to bring back their much loved daughter.

IF they claim their daughter was very disabled and would never go anywhere alone -why bother about a faulty window latch. unless they are saying their daughter cut loose because of that latch? bit too far fetched IMO.

I find it odd that the mother said she was jet lagged but hadn't she only flown from Singapore?

I find the whole situation odd. Again, many discrepancies. Yes jet lag from Singapore. *%87
