Video: Scottish Parliament considers the Petition
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:02:05 PM »
Guje Borgesson raised this petition with the Scottish Parliament due to her concerns that there was no Fatal Accident Inquiry or meaningful investigation following the death of her daughter Annie in suspicious circumstances at Prestwick in 2005.

Mrs Borgesson used the case of her daughter and two other well known Scottish cases to argue that the new Crown Counsel-led team of specialist investigators that the Lord Advocate is setting up should be able to look afresh at such cases.

The other cases she referred to in her petition were: Annie Davies who was found robbed and battered in her Erskine home in 1998 and Kevin McLeod who was found battered and dead in Wick Harbour in 1997.

Mrs Borgesson's petition has attracted worldwide attention with over 3,000 people from 57 countries supporting it. Unfortunately, due to ill health Mrs Borgesson was unable to attend the PPC meeting that considered her petition but she nominated Tom Minogue to speak to the petition on her behalf.

Mr Minogue in his oral presentation cited another famous Scottish case of death in suspicious circumstances—that of Dundee man Billy Harris—as evidence that Mrs Borgesson's concerns were not fanciful or unique but were part of a concerning pattern of cases that may have predicated the actions of the Lord Advocate in setting up the new investigative team.

What an utter shambles.  Guje had to engage in a sit-down protest at Kilmarnock Police Station before she could get any answers to her questions.

The Scottish MSP's wouldn't know the meaning of the words "Have we done enough"!

Any idiot looking at the evidence can see that Annie was not a suicide risk.  Could it be that Strathclyde Police want to keep their unsolved murder record intact?

A disgrace!!

Unbelievable!!

That a family should have to fight/protest, just to get some answers regarding the loss of their loved one.

I despair at times - I really do!

Can you image if the circumstances were reversed and a loved one was found washed up on a beach beside some foreign airport the very day she was due to arrive home for a reunion?  And to make matters worse, when Annie's body was returned they had cut off and discarded her beautiful long hair.

It must have been awful for Annie's family and friends, I am not surprised this whole debacle has had such a detrimental effect on their health.

What a terrible thing to happen.   I was not aware of this case but I have heard of the silent walk in Edinburgh.  I am going to take an active interest in it now.  I find it strange that fresh water diatoms were found in Annie's body when such do not exist in the sea at Prestwick.  Has there been any DNA tests carried out?

I'm speechless.

How painful.

It's infuriating to witness people being treated in this manner...the victims and their families.

My heart goes out to them all.   8(8-))

I missed your comment earlier Julie what with everything that was happening or not happening in the JB case.  The answer is that tests are being arranged privately including further investigation of the discovery of fresh water diatoms in her system.  It will be embarrassing for the Scottish Authorities is it is discovered that they were negligent yet again and let yet the murder of yet another foreign student go unpunished.  I will come back to this at another time.   8((()*/

Investigation into Swede's death 'remains open'.

Annie Borjesson
Jody Harrison, Reporter / Friday 4 December 2015 / Home News

PROSECUTORS have said they would reopen an investigation into the death of a Swedish woman in Ayrshire 10 years ago if fresh evidence was found.

Annie Borjesson's body was discovered on Prestwick Beach on December 4, 2005, and 10 years on her family continue to look for answers.

They believe the 30-year-old was murdered, but the initial police inquiry found she had drowned and her death was deemed suicide.

But a number of questions have been raised by her relatives in Sweden and by campaigners in Scotland.

Kenneth Roy, editor of the Scottish Review, carried out his own investigation after the family called for a fresh inquiry.

Writing on the anniversary of Ms Borjesson's death, he said: "I compiled a dossier and sent it to Police Scotland, with a request that the case should be re-opened; I was told that the request would be considered by an assistant chief constable, Malcolm Graham; for a while Annie's family in Sweden clung to a slender hope. A few bleak lines of rejection from Mr Graham finally crushed it.

"I often wondered what the police and the Crown Office had to lose by taking a fresh look at the evidence, but lately I have begun to wonder what they have to hide.

"I approached the case with an open mind. Now, with the passage of time, I have come to suspect that Annie Borjesson was murdered.

However, it has emerged that the investigation into her death is listed as "discontinued" rather than closed, meaning that the assumption of suicide was made on the basis of the available information.

But the case remains officially open and could be resumed if fresh evidence is found.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The death of Annie Borjesson was thoroughly investigated by Strathclyde Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, who gave detailed consideration to all the facts and circumstances of the case and concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances.

"The investigation concluded that Miss Borjesson, tragically, took her own life.

"Any new, credible and reliable evidence which comes to light will be considered."

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

BBC Scotland will screen a documentary Tuesday 4th July as there is still pressure to have investigation into Annie's death reopened.

Sandra Lean
I discovered today that the BBC covered the story of Annie Borjesson in a 4 part series called "Body on the beach - what happened to Annie?" In 2008, I met Annie's mum and her best friend, Maria. If you support Luke, please, please, join Annie's family in their search for justice, like they came together with us 15 years ago.
I don't have a link (I don't have a tv), but please, search for this story and give Annie's family all the support you can.

Dani Justice
Watched them all yesterday and one the  ex detectives from MIAST too

Sandra Lean
Dani Justice I know. Remember, this is a BBC series - look for the questions they didn't even ask, far less attempt to answer. I'm (very sad to be) on this - will update soon.

There are huge questions surrounding the untimely death of this young woman.  There is a family at home in Sweden who deserve to have answers to them.

One of the first is why have they been denied the right to see the photographs taken at the post mortem?
