Daniel Entwistle: 10th anniversary of Great Yarmouth disappearance

BBC News Norfolk
2 May 2013

Police are renewing appeals for information about a missing Great Yarmouth boy on the 10th anniversary of his disappearance.

Daniel Entwistle was seven when he failed to return home on Saturday, 3 May, 2003.

He was captured on a local shop's CCTV and his bike was found near Trinity Quay, leading to a river bed search.

Norfolk Police said they hoped the anniversary would jog memories and provide vital, fresh information.

Det Insp Gary Bloomfield said: "Daniel would have been a teenager now and the last few years have been a heartbreaking time for his family, who have had to live with the fact that he has never been found and therefore had no closure.

"He went missing during the bank holiday weekend and we would like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who believes they may have been in the area and have new information to come forward."

Police said Daniel was 3ft 2ins (0.96m) tall and was wearing a blue Adidas t-shirt, blue tracksuit bottoms and grey trainers on the day of his disappearance.

There was a potential sighting of him with a group of boys near the river at Trinity Quay at about 15:30 BST.

Daniel, who lived at Copperfield Avenue, was caught on camera at Blencowes convenience store at about 17:05.

His red BMX bicycle was found abandoned in the early hours of the following morning.

Father haunted over missing son Watch

The father of a seven-year-old boy who disappeared more than a decade ago has been found dead at his home in Suffolk.

Daniel Entwistle was last seen on CCTV at a convenience store in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on 3 May 2003.

His bike was found near Trinity Quay, sparking a harbour and river search.

Daniel's father David was discovered dead in Lowestoft on Wednesday. Along with his estranged wife Paula, he had been involved in several campaigns to find Daniel.

Recently, private investigators had taken up the search although Norfolk Police said the case was still open.

In 2012 Mr Entwistle said he was still haunted by his son's disappearance.

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to ascertain what caused Mr Entwistle's death.

Thank you Misty,

He was only in his 50s, but the latest news says it is not being treated as suspicious.

A heart attack or something maybe?.

It must have been hell for that family, not knowing what happened to the child.
May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers, are with the remaining family.

The father of missing schoolboy Daniel Entwistle was a convicted paedophile, the Sunday People can reveal.

David Entwistle, who has been found dead at home at the age of 53, served a six-month jail sentence before his son’s disappearance.

He was convicted of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

Police were aware of the conviction when Daniel vanished aged seven in 2003 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, but it was never made public.

Entwistle was interviewed by detectives in the search for his son but never made a suspect.

The railway worker’s marriage to Daniel’s mum Paula ended soon after police told her of the conviction early in the search.

Entwistle, who had drink problems, was found dead at home in Lowestoft, Suffolk, on January 7.

Rumours of his conviction had circulated online but it was only confirmed after the Sunday People made an application to Preston Crown Court this week.

As the conviction happened before 1997, Entwistle never appeared on the Sex Offender Register.

A document released on the orders of a judge said: “David Entwistle was upon his own confession convicted upon indictment of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years on March 26, 1987, at the Crown Court at Preston. He was sentenced to six months.”

Entwistle’s’s estranged father-in-law Keith Dutton told the Sunday People: “It is important this is finally coming out. People should know the truth about David.”

Norfolk police said: “We wouldn’t comment on anyone’s previous convictions.”

Poor little Daniel, and poor Paula. I hope the father hasn't taken a secret to his grave.

The date you have for the conviction is incorrect and my company are currently undertaking a cold case review of this matter. We can be contacted via e-mail: newchapterinvestigations@outlook.com

There is every reason tom believe that Mr Zugor may have been a friend of the late David Entwistle and we are exploring possible links between David Entwistle, an organisation in Lowestoft, Suffolk known as "Dawn of Time" and one of it's main owners James Poole (A convicted Paedophile)

Are you able to reveal the correct date of conviction on this public forum?
