Title: An Introduction to the Moral Standing of the two opposing groups in the case McC
Post by: debunker on April 02, 2013, 08:10:51 AM
For the past years since the disappearance of Madeleine McCann the case has dominated a small part of the internet via forums and blogs. There are two broad factions, known as the Pros and the [ censored word]. Both sides have participated in a dialogue of the deaf and the forums are now totally separated with Pros only posting on Pro Forums and [ censored word] only posting on Anti forums with no real dialogue. This is maintained by the banning of anyone who offers views contrary to the beliefs of the majority of the posters on that forum. Each side has constructed a set of myths that describe the case from their own point of view and because contrary views are censored, no real testing of information occurs. All that is left is meaningless support for their own side. It has resulted in much heat and little light. Imagine a political forum which only allowed members of one party to post, or a football forum which only allowed the fervent supporters of one team to post.

What does this matter to you? It is important that you grasp the basic beliefs of both sides. The Pros accept that a legal process has resulted in no criminal case to answer in two countries. The [ censored word] claim, in astounding language, the possible guilt of a group of people for the most horrendous crimes despite the fact that after investigations, neither Portugal nor the UK has even charged, let alone tried, any of these people.

Most of the cases here are about people probably wrongly convicted (and necessarily wrongly charged) people. The [ censored word] posting here are advocating for criminal sanctions against people who have been investigated and insufficient evidence to charge for any criminal offence. Morally, then, you are now dealing with people advocating an even more stringent position than people who support the miscarriages of justice exhibited here. They claim the right to publicly condemn people held innocent in law. I will leave it to posters here to decide if this world view is Moral. I find it reprehensible and see it as part of the mindset that leads to the miscarriages of justice againsr which you campaign.

One of the major conflicts between the two sides of the debate revolves around the concepts of Justice, evidence and certainty.

Most Pros are essentially skeptical of evidence, consider that Justice requires proof beyond reasonable doubt, and maintain a low level of certainty about what happened. Despite accusations from [ censored word], Pros rarely argue for the certainty of abduction, merely for its possibility; they are skeptical about scenarios requiring extremely odd explanations- conspiracies, politics, class etc.

Most [ censored word] are gullible about evidence, consider that Justice requires punishment rather than proof, and maintain "certain" views well beyond the available evidence.

Debunker. your stance ids not in the middle. You clearly back the Mccanns.

I have seen no criticism from you towards the 'pros'.

Personally, I have seen a load of rubbish and hatred spew from both sides of the fence.

You like to use the word 'evidence', yet when asked for something concrete as regards 'abduction', youn reply with hyperbole.

You do not know the Mccanns or their associates told the truth, you assume they did.

If Madeleine died as the result of an accident in the apartment as I believe she did, then the Mccanns would have good cause to lie, and to a lesser extent their associates.

You do not know the Mccanns or their associates told the truth, you assume they did.

And you don't know that they didn't - you simply choose to believe so.

There is NO evidence to suggest that they did not tell the truth, or that they faked an abduction to cover up a death.

You are wrong on every count.

I believe there is insufficient evidence to prove either abduction or harm by people close to Madeleine.

I do not assume the McCanns 'told the truth'.

I do criticise the Pros and have been banned from Pro boards for critiquing their myths.

I do not back the McCanns; I do support their rights under the law.

I suggest that your view is warped by your own assumptions, myths and prejudices.

Or is the forum being used as another academic study with a few students strategically placed to help the observation, evaluation along for an outcome that you'll never know the answer to.

Chinagirl backs me up on being banned from STM for arguing that technically there was evidence against the McCanns (just not adequate to prosecute or even charge) and for pointing out that having the investigation shelved does not mean that the McCanns have been absolved. I have been refused p posting rights on .....2.

On the balance of probabilities, murderers are overwhelmingly likely tobe male.

Therefore any murder must be by a man.

You are mistaken when you say you understand statistics.

Incorrect yet again.

I suggest you read up on hypothesis testing procedures, including Significance Testing, to evaluate the test result.

You might learn something.

By the way do you believe Tanner is capable of receiving visual data beyond the visible spectrum ?

I don't know that Mr Smith wasn't correct, of course.

I would however suggest that his assertion that the man carrying the child was Gerry, is, on balance, false.
There are a number of witnesses who, quite positively claim to have seen Mr McCann at the apartment, at and around the material time.

I'm not sure about Mrs Tanners evidence. I am in no doubt that she saw a man carrying a child, I mean why would she lie? But as for the description given later, I can see why many may doubt its accuracy.

sika  May I just give an opinion  From what I have read about the Smith sighting and then subsequently when Mr Smith contacted the police again, after seeing the McCanns return to the UK.

Can you just recall to yourself when you have been watching  film, t.v. programme or perhaps an item of news, and you haven't given it your fullest of attention,  then suddenly your are amazed that you have spotted in a split second something in the background shot that is familiar to you.  Then spend the next few minutes puzzled by it. I was recently watching the old t.v. programme Butterflies - just suddenly out of the blue I recognised a background shot... why after all these years, and how could recognise it.

I think for Mr Smith, this unconscious stimulus happened when presented with the stance & gait of Mr McCann..... perhaps Mr Smith is wrong, I don't know.  But he seemed to have struggled with his conscience before contacting the police.  And from the official file released (unheard of in the UK) there seemed to be little of follow up or a Rogatory interview (due to misunderstanding that he didn't live in the UK) of course, further information from him my purely not been released and if the MET are worth their £3.5m+ one would hope he has been reinterviewed.

So was it a eureka moment? or merely a false sensory perception !

One can argue until the cows come home about the case of missing Madeleine McCann.  Sorting fact from fiction\speculation.  But what remains ambiguous are the TALES OF THE UNEXPLAINED, for example the Gaspar statements.  Somewhat fall into the same category as Mr Smiths second witness statement. un-expected & un-explained.

I have always welcomed discussions regarding this case, particularly from those with opposing views as it often serves to have me second guess myself, and I would quite freely correct myself if I discover an inaccuracy.

However, my knowledge of the case is of no comparison to 'fight' against someone of your level of knowledge, debunker. You not only have an interest in the case but you are also highly skilled at the study of 'behaviour' and particularly, with  the discourse in this case.

Although I respect your expertise in analysing the members responses and you certainly have a knowledge of the case, an interest that was the result of your studies, I feel that your need to keep 'middle ground' may prevent some of the true facts from being debated.

I have a good knowledge of the case but your expertise and ability to bring the points being discussed to 'ground level' make it difficult to discuss further.  Thats sad. I certainly do not have the time to respond to some of your posts as to do so would entail lengthy posts with the details and corresponding links that would be ultimately  ignored.

I am not here to try and influence people to blindly believe the MCanns are guilty.

I try to show the details from the files that are not freely available in the UK, and although the details may never get to those that do not use a computer, I do my best to make them available in a video format that contains as many of the details in one video, leaving the viewers the freedom to decide for themselves.

As mentioned before, I respect your stance on the case but I cannot always respond directly to your posts as explained above.

I feel you are not posting because of an opinion that you hold, but it appears to be more of an exercise for your own 'agenda'. I apologise if I am incorrect.

I enjoy and love discussions but I have to bow out from trying to 'fight' to have the details known.  Your expertise will guarantee you will 'win' any discussion.

My videos are available and they show the details of the case.  I have spent enough time on the case that I need to allocate it to something more important than to become (whether directly or as a result of) a subject in one of your projects.

Keep up the good work for those that have the time to 'discuss' with you. No question you are very knowledgeable and one day you may become 'one of us' and have an opinion.  8(0(*

I don't believe that the moment Mr Smith committed himself to a second contact with the police, had anything to do with facial recognition.  In fact had he known he was looking at Mr McCann or was attentive, I don't think he probably would have had his recognition of the 'whole' concept of gait & stance and the one thing that gave him that moment of recognition\perception.  I wonder in fact that his conscious would have overruled his sub-conscious.  But it is a fact that it happened, but of course he could have been totally wrong.

But what can not been ruled out to the sequence of events that night. The family saw a man carrying a child at about 10 pm.  That sighting has not been accounted and remains a loose end.

I would be happy for you to point out/list anything you claim is incorrect in my videos and I will most certainly review them and correct if I agree.

The reason I was surprised you did not respond to my above post is, because this thread is titled about 'moral standing' in the two opposing groups and I was pointing out that I feared that you did not consider yourself in either of those groups as your interest/agenda lays elsewhere.

I do not consider that I am in either group. I do not deny the possibility of abduction so am obviously not an Anti. I do not deny the possibility that the McCanns may have covered up an accident s I am not  a Pro. I support the McCanns right to fair treatment by Justice systems and by press, other media including new media; I do not particularly like the McCanns nor especially their child care routines. I agre with the conclusions of the Portuguese legal system which essentially found no case to answer.

With respect to your videos, you make major errors regarding the dog deployment. Are you willing to debate exactly what the dogs did and why the Portuguese legal system discounted it as evidence?

Could you show me one video that I have entered the 'facts' incorrectly (except the 'arguido' comment that I have attempted to correct)

I am surprised you haven't made any coment regarding my post above. Is there a reason?

DO you want to choose the video to critique, or should I choose?

I would be happy for you to point out/list anything you claim is incorrect in my videos and I will most certainly review them and correct if I agree.

The reason I was surprised you did not respond to my above post is, because this thread is titled about 'moral standing' in the two
opposing groups and I was pointing out that I feared that you did not consider yourself in either of those groups as your interest/agenda
lays elsewhere.

We all look forward to the list of errors and quotes taken out of context with interest.

HiDeHo makes great play with the dog behaviour but her interpretation is misperceived. I propose that she and I debate what the dogs actually do in a separate thread. I am also happy to discuss her misinterpretations of the LCNDNA result from the Renault Scenic.

It has been said that it was the way in which Gerry was carrying the child.  But since this is a normal way to carry a supposedly sleeping child in comfort, this doesn't really wash.

I am happy to do that debunker as I mean what I say about respecting your knowledge.

However, it will be done with the knowledge of what 'happened' before that I have previously alluded to and as long as it is with the intent of correcting me as opposed to attempting to discredit me and evaluate my behaviour.

I am attempting to get information to those that are not aware.  I really do not want to become 'the latest project', and I also would not like to think that your agenda may prevent some information being believed.

I researched many videos and some took more than 70 hours to compile.  I did not spend that time to make a personal point.  I did it because I believe everything I have added to the videos is correct for others to view.

This is about Madeleine, not about analysing and attempting to discredit members.

You are also correct to take it to another thread as I believe this thread is for discussing the 'Moral Standing of the two opposing groups'  of which I would love to hear your views regarding my post.

You will find in most cases that an account given by a witness will morph over time.  This is not surprising since such a witness will then be influenced by those around him and the Press reports he will see in the newspapers and the tv.

The non existent Lichen.  Cited as proof that there was no abductor as this Lichen was undisturbed.  Just a silly lie, but a lie nevertheless.

I am not here to try and influence people to blindly believe the MCanns are guilty.

Am I correct in thinking that you have produced hundreds of hours of videos (all of which paint a very prejudiced and negative picture of the McCanns) which you have not only posted on youtube, but have also repeatedly linked to in hundreds of tweets and forum posts and also sent links of your videos to the Metropolitan Police, ?  Yet you claim you are not here to try and influence people that the McCanns are guilty?  So, what exactly is your agenda then?

Martha

The information released to the UK is very one sided.

The PJ police from the start of the investigation were under judicial secrecy so the only information available was via the McCanns and their spokespersons.

When the dogs were brought in and the McCanns were declared Arguidos they hired a company that WON AN AWARD for their efforts in turning public opinion about the McCanns from hostilty to sympathetic. (ie money helped buy public perception)

The website has removed this now

The McCanns have made great efforts to stop anyone who opposes the abduction theory.

My videos are compiled with the intention of allowing those details to be seen ESPECIALLY in the UK where many people are not aware they exist and are therefore unable to form their own opinions.

My friends and family still contact me when sightings of Madeleine appear in the news.  I do not have an agenda to change their opinions, other than casually mention a few details. I would hope that no-one believes entirely what they are told unless they research for themselves, but I can understand the UK perception because they have only heard one side of the story.

Are UK Public kept in DARK? UK MEDIA not reporting IMPORTANT details about Madeleine McCann?

I have just posted an explanation to you on the other thread that I hadnt seen, however I am still interested on your thoughts regarding my post on page 1 of this thread, which hopefully you will reply to, as to whether you are continuing with your agenda of using these debates to analyse the behaviour of the two opposing 'groups' in this case, or whether you truly have an opinion that you choose to share with us.

My opinion coincides with the conclusion of the Portuguese Legal system: No evidence, no charges, no trial, no more to say.

OK, but you don't deny that your original reason for becoming involved with the McCann case was based on another agenda, and that was to study behaviour of the two groups, 'pros' and '[ censored word]'? (and may in fact be a part of your reason for remaining impartial and maybe influencing others so you can analyse your acheivements?)

I used to present a course on among other subjects, cult belief systems and the maintenance of cognitively dissonant information. I usedtouse proto-fascist groups as an example but most recently (in Ottawa) have used the McCann case.

Thanks for answering that. (and no, I havent gone to work yet)

After a long time debating (and creating a stir) as debunker you sent that last message to tell us who you were and what you were doing and why.

I really hope you enter into these discussions as a person that cannot fail to have views on the case.  We all know that in a court of law there is no room for error, but in a discussion board its OK to base opinions on a compilation of different facts and circumstances, regardless whether one on its own would be classified as 'evidence'.

So you were near me then and didn't give me a wave?

The information released to the UK is very one sided.

The information coming out in the UK was for months very one-sided against the McCanns, I'll grant you that.  Then when it became apparent that the Portuguese case against them was built on straw, the UK media grew more circumspect.  The tabloids especially realised that they had been reporting extremely biased anti McCann propaganda and some of them apologised and recompensed the McCanns for the harm done to their reputation and the search for Madeleine.

Wrong.  The information upon which most of the Anti McCann headlines of 2007-2008 were based were clearly not put there by the McCanns or their spokesman (what on earth would be the point of that?), they were very obviously leaked by the PJ investigation to the PT Media.

I expect if your reputation had been trashed by the police so that there was worldwide suspicion that you had caused the death of your child and hidden her body you might feel moved to take proactive steps to repair that reputation, particularly if you felt that doing so would get people looking out for your missing child rather than writing her off as dead and her body dumped down the nearest volcano.

Not really.  They have attempted to counteract myths and lies spread by the most high-profile individuals such as Tony Bennett and Goncalo Amaral, and by certain newspapers - however the vast majority of those anonymous internet beings who daily trash Kate & Gerry's reputations and spend all their free time trying to convince the world that Madeleine is dead do so without any restrictions placed on them by the McCanns whatsoever.

Your videos make no attempt at even-handedness and are riddled with Anti McCann spin, propaganda and innaccuracies.

Anyone in the UK, or the world for that matter, is quite able to make up their own minds about this case without the "help" of your propaganda videos.  The PJ Files are freely available to all and these are the only resources needed for anyone interested in researching the case.   Your videos are wholly biased and fortunately anyone with more than a dozen braincells can see them for what they are and recognise your very determined Anti McCann agenda.

While we're at it - why do you frequently remind your followers on Controversy not to post libellous or offensive comments about the McCanns and their friends, then turn a blind eye to the daily stream of libellous and hateful comments that are made about them on that facebook page?

Sorry to truncate your post Martha - but I believe you hit the proverbial nail on the head when you wrote in the last paragraph:

'why do you frequently remind your followers'

For there's the rub - followers - the cult of personality - a poster who offers the world and it's dog dozens, nay hundreds of cut & paste fillums with the single message - 'The McCanns done IT' (whatever IT is), can not now stop him-/herself, for them this has become a mission, a cultish obsession not borne out of fact.

Introspection/Objectivity does not come into it
