So what has it got to do with Madeleine ?

According to this couple's lawyer this HAS got something to do with the McCann case :

Typical [ censored word ] reactions:

"Another 'family' hoping to cash in?
Probably be doing the rounds of the TV studios today. (for a small 'fee' you understand)
'story' takes 1 year 3 months to get 'published'!!!!
Looks like the old man is 'posing' for picture'
And the 'dad' let the man go free............ TWICE!
All a bit strange imo.

The mcCanns have created a cottage industry!"

"Yes it is indeed interesting how the story morphed into a typical UK press Madeleine story complete with quote from Mitchell after first appearing as a non-event. My dictionary defines snatch as seizing something suddenly and peremtorily. By this definition what is described here wasn't a snatch. Was it even an attempted snatch? Difficult to know - we only have one man's word for it - oh and Mitchell's of course. That and the fact that the 'story' only broke after what has become the obligatory silence of a year or more makes me somewhat sceptical. But why are the police involved - both Thames Valley and Scotland Yard? How does Mitchell get away with that?"

Why do I need to provides cites ?

Why should I do the work for you ?

I know you like giving orders, but I suggest you venture off this board and split the infinitive, and research yourself.

Meanwhile can you cite evidence of your qualifications.

For someone who spends a lot of time on here, how do you do two jobs as well ?

DUH! I am retired and look after my pre-teen boys.

No, your rules of debate are that people follow your instructions implicitly.

So let's have another try, go onto other forums, not 'pro or anti' as you like to label them, and read the views of other people.

Mind you it could be out of your comfort zone, where you can't control things.

IT is perfectly acceptable to call for cites for doubtful suggestions.

Man Held Over Lanzarote Kidnap ClaimsA 62-year-old is arrested in London just hours after a man was allegedly seen trying to lead away a girl from a shopping centre.

Sky seems to have got the strapline wrong. He wasn't arrested hours after the alleged attempted kidnapping, but hours after the photos were released.

The arrest came hours after pictures of a man accused of trying to kidnap the girl in a shopping centre in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, were released.

Further [ censored word ] reaction:

"mostgothic Today at 9:21

“There was a man leading her off by the wrist. I shouted, ‘Oi! What the f*** are you doing?’ I grabbed her but he wouldn’t make eye contact and walked off.

So this was a supposed child abductor, caught in the act, and yet he walked off?

Later the family spotted the man, believed to be British, again close to young girls near the beach and the dad took the photo.

So they didn't apprehend him/call the police - but just talked to him and took a photo?

The dad, who asked to remain anonymous, said the family reported the incident to Spanish police and British police when they returned home.

But why wait until returning home when they could have nabbed him on the spot?
And it's a pity this 'dad' remains anonymous because a name would give at least some credence to this predictably barmy story.

Another source close to the McCanns said: “Again this is proof that British youngsters are potentially vulnerable while away on holiday."

Well that's where you're wrong, Mister Another Source - it's not the holiday away that makes them vulnerable - in some cases it's having lousy, unwatchful, selfish parents that makes them vulnerable, you wazzock.

Anyways, this man isn't Hewlett (because he's still walking around) so he can't be guilty of anything McCann-related. So there.

NEXT!!!"

All children in every country are not vulnerable if they are looked after properly.

It makes it sound like it just British children that are at risk on foreign beaches ...what a load load off bollocks....sorry, just 3 year old blond girls ..

It's obvious paedos go to beaches, they go because children go there"

And there's more:
OK, so I'm now thinking ...

...... this is more of a James Murray Sunday Special, so why Thursday? Why couldn't it wait?
Is another more important story about to break and does it need to be smothered with all this crap?

The incident bears frightening similarities to the McCann case, when three-year-old Maddie went missing in Portugal in 2007."

"suspected kidnap bid that mirrored the Madeleine McCann case."

Er, how exactly?

Did the man 'smash the shutters' that led to the beach?
Did he leave the window to the beach open, as a red herring?
Did Madeleines' supposed 'abductor' POSE for a picture of himself and hang around the area where he would probably get caught?

Yep, mirrored, to a tee.

All he had to say was 'I thought it was Madeleine and i was just taking her to the police to claim the reward'
'she looks just like the little 3 year old girl in the photo Gerry and Kate wanted people to look for'

As Gerry famously said "You have gone over old ground. It’s really quite boring."

NOW YOU ALL KNOW WHY MITCHELL WAS 'VISITING' SY RECENTLY!
Andy 'pandy' Redwood TOLD, by Mitchell, to justify the vast amount of public money he has supposedly "spent" on the maybe alive or maybe dead 'missing' child!

Well she doesn't have to write another book SY are 'searching'

Madeleines birthday is in May.

The 'abduction' was in May.

London marathon is April 21st....wonder if all the emphasis will be on 'poor kate'.

I think this news is to bury bad news.....so maybe it has something to do with Mr Amaral....don't know why they bother anyway because the world will find out

AND THERE IS WORSE- sexist jokes about Kate McCann's "snatch"

LOVELY PEOPLE

Neither do I, but some in the UK have proved they confuse Spain with Portugal. But there's a similarity, yes, not in the events, but in the way they are told : the father is supposed to have recognized his little girls' flashing trainers... like Jane T recognizing Madeleine's famous pyjamas...

Completely different scenario, in the fact the father saw the abductor with child, that hasn't even been established in the Maddy case, yes it proves children can be abducted which is terrible, and this being championed as some type of proof about Maddy is completely bogus and proves nothing we didn't unfortunately know that children can be abducted.

So every time something like this happens will it be maddy 3 etc, as I believe it was referenced as Maddy2 in some article, talk about being disrespectful to the actual girl this happened too , I find this very disturbing.

Im just pleased the girl was got back safe, but yet the entire thing seems to have now been turned into a reference to Maddy is  bogus and without foundation.

Maybe Ill ask their opinion of goal line technology, we seem to need their opinion on press regulations which they courted  and every child related story, there are other missing children in this world but yet roughly 1 family has rec'd including the met review close to £9m assistance

sorry Im in a bad mood and have broken 1 of my own rules which is to take emotion out of analysing things.

well i think its a bit ironic ..that certain posters on here claim they will not stand by and watch an Innocent family slated and vilified for something they may not have done..

yet what is all this ..his picture a thread [even mamed in the press]..the man has been released on bail [hardly dangerouse]...i would have thought all you so compas ionate posters on rights would have at least waited till he had been charged with something ...that's if he ever will ...talk about double standards ..[its always the same]

This is why there must be exceptions to recent suggestions that suspects and arrestees MUST have anonymity. This man was only found via press publicity. Same for claims for absolute anonymity in rape cases- many times the publication of pictures and details bring in other people that the rapist has attacked.

It will be  a difficult balance.

We have altered the title slightly to reflect the 'alleged' attempted kidnap.  We don't know why she was being led off, we can only speculate at this stage.

You are wrong.
Until I get more information I will not comment on a "story" embellished by the brittish press.
But I remember a brittish mother that abandoned a little baby on the street, close to the airport in Faro, that was taken by an Institution of that city for Children at Emergency situations - baby Carlos was adopted by a portuguese family that had lots of problems after. Another mother that was so drunk that forgot her children in the streets of Albufeira, just a little after Madeleine's case, had her children taken to a care taker centre for children, because some adults denounced the case.
More recently, in Estoril, a couple that was so distracted that their child taken on the street (ftp://a couple that was so distracted that their child taken on the street), later complained about the way they were treated.

And I question: what shall we do? Shall we look away when we see an abandoned child or shall we try to help the child?

I don't know if this case, reported in this newspaper is or is not a replica of what happened in this last case that occurred in Portugal, where strangers had to alert to a situation where a child was abandoned, famished and thirsty...what I know is that this sort of unfounded notices just feed hate, and even though the subject is british, the xenophobic tone is still there - these things happen in other countries.

Bull..., UK has a higher criminal tax rate in every type of crime than both Iberian countries.

I know you don't understand portuguese, but watch the images, and reflect. http://www.tvi.iol.pt/videos/13692861 (ftp://www.tvi.iol.pt/videos/13692861)

I n the abandonment at the airport of the baby by the parents, no crim inal or administrative action was taken by Portuguese authorities against the parents. I took from this the belief that the McCanns could not be charged with neglect as this child was abandoned in a stroller on a busy oad near the airport as the parents argued and each refused to take the baby.

The next family you mention were Irish not British and it was never prroved whether they were actually drunk, or just false lo y accused by  concerned but mistaken bystanders. They were not charged and returned to the Republic.

What on earth is a "criminal tax rate"?

a few days ago ...[before this story broke] while in asda a young boy was stood crying for his mam a female shopper took him by the hand ...she asked a chap who was near if he would accompany her to the information kiosk.[wich is situatad near the entrance]...he was a complete stranger

but obviously she had thought twice about taking him... as though she was leaving the shop........this can often happen  in packed super market ....it is your instinct to reunite child with parent as quickly as possible..

a lot of peolpe now i imagine will bypass the child and leave it to someone else...[staff never around]...for fear of being accused of kidnap..
