Brave Hazel, who is joining a major march marking International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women in Dublin on November 25, also opened up about the level of abuse and vitriol she has received online - with sickos even calling her a liar. "There's threads upon threads about what a horrible person I am. How I'm a liar, how I'm this, you know statements that a disgruntled ex boyfriend might have said this about me, and they've taken that and ran with it, which is absolutely fine. Look at the end of the day I feel sorry for people who live in a bubble like that and are so filled with hate," she said.

"It confuses me and I know a lot of others that people of this narrative can get online and send highly abusive messages, post just disgusting things about victims of horrendous crimes and private message them horrendous things. But they'll be the first ones out marching for the safety of our women and children. Like they're the biggest contradiction that I've ever encountered."

I've never seen the point in bothering with some marches & this is an example of just one of them. No amount of wearing orange, walking the streets holding banners & chanting is going to 'eliminate' domestic violence. If a man is drunk, angry or just determined enough to harm his spouse or other women he is simply going to do it. Violence against women has been going on for as long as there have been men & women. This is a march that will change absolutely nothing. It's like all the women who run round parks while dressed in pink once a year & how it still doesn't cure cancer.

You may have a point about domestic violence marches (though anything which highlights the issue cannot be a bad thing, women have suffered in silence for too long) however Race For Life and other associated Pink Run style events have raised around a thousand million pounds (is that a billion?) over the years for cancer research.  We are now on the cusp of a cure for many kinds of cancer and survival rates have massively increased in the last 30 years so well done pink running ladies for doing their bit, I say.

I've never been to any marches or protests. I didn't even go out & paint George Crosses on roundabouts but if the government try filling my town with Afghan migrants I might consider protesting. Afghan migrants commit a disproportionate amount of crimes including sex crimes, relative to their population share. But I get the impression from her comments that Ms Behan is a refugees welcome kind of woman.

That doesn’t make her a bad person deserving of bad things happening to her , just someone with a different point of view.  I’ve only been on one demo and that was to shout “Maggie Maggie Maggie Out Out Out” when she visited our town.  So that was a long time ago.  I would have gone to boo Trump but he was kept out of earshot (earshot, geddit) when he visited London.  I despise the man almost as much as you despise the McCanns.

Yes of course that doesn't make her a bad person & it's terrible what happened to her & there's no justification for it. But there is something I just don't like about her I'm afraid. She believes Madeleine was abducted. I take an instant & very strong disliking to anyone who believes the McCanns in all honesty. Anyway. Back on topic. Brueckner being free to leave Germany. Do I think he raped Ms Behan? Yes he most likely did. But the prosecutor messed things up. But I don't think she's in any danger of Brueckner tracking her down & murdering her. He's broke, in the woods living in a wet tent. He couldn't afford the air fare to Ireland. But when he signs his book & movie deal....

When do you expect that to happen and what’s stopping the publishing and film companies from doing so already?  Could it be that none of them wants to give money or lend credibility to a convicted paedophile and rapist suspected of murdering the most famous missing child in the world?

Does he really have to live with his past convictions held against him all his life? In so far as I can tell he hasn't committed any sex crimes or other in about 8 years.  Since his release he has cooperated with the police & behaved himself. He's served his sentences for all the crimes you mention. It seems to me this should all mean he is restarting life with a clean slate, provided he doesn't offend again. For me I see the matter as dealt with. How many more offence free years will it take before you can begin to forgive him?

We’ve had this discussion before.  He hasn’t committed any sex crimes in the last 8 years because 7 of those were spent largely in solitary confinement in prison.  People who commit sex crimes go on a permanent register of offenders, their crimes are never forgotten and their criminal records never erased.  I don’t need to forgive him, his crimes weren’t committed against me or my loved ones but I would hope that he is always kept under scrutiny so that he is unable to commit further crimes, what is wrong with that?
Incidentally he hasn’t behaved himself while in prison and incurred a fine for bad behaviour while incarcerated that some silly mug of an ex policewoman paid off for him.  Why hasn’t she opened her home to him now I wonder?

Rapists and clean sheets are mutually exclusive imo.

I think that needs qualifying.
You could have a situation whereby a young man gets carried away and ommits to get consent from his partner, but will never repeat the offence. Very different from stranger rape with violence.

Lest we forget:

A prosecution psychiatrist, Dr. Christian Riedeman, described Brueckner as being in "the absolute top league of dangerousness" to society and highly likely to reoffend if released. The psychiatrist noted that, compared to other sex offenders, almost 100% of comparable cases have more favorable prognoses than Brueckner.

Maybe he will moderate his behaviour with old age?

Maybe he will have to. Or some other victim might kill him.  What a Court Case that would make.

I think the fact that he is no longer an anonymous face in the crowd will help keep him in check, in Europe at any rate.  If he wants to keep on abusing kids and raping women he will probably need to move to Asia or Africa.

There's a double-entendre here.

This^^ People can & do change. He's approaching 50 & has just had nearly a decade trapped inside a tiny cell to consider the error of his ways. I'm not suggesting he should be the first person we call to babysit the kids or care for granny, but let's just see how he gets on. He's behaved himself these last 3 months. It's a good, fresh & somewhat damp & cold start for him thus far. But I'm still keeping my doors & windows locked, just to be on the safe side.

Did horrible old wiggy Gary Glitter change his behaviour after numerous convictions for sex crimes?  I suppose you’re a big fan of his as well.

It's freezing ballcocks again here.  O'Connor says I can think again if I think he is going outside to pee today.  Thank God for tiled floors and a wood burner.

No Pees in the house this morning. O'Connor must have been out in the garden manning the barricades against Breuckner.  Weird Dog.

"O'Connor".  A German Sausage Dog, born in the year of  "O" in France from a large litter.  I can only guess that that the Breeder ran out of "O" names so stuck an "O" in front of Connor, hence the Irish name.  Poor little soul, no wonder he gets confused.  But he will have the ballcocks off Breuckner given half a chance.

No, just Connor.  Two syllables are always best.
