Title: New Petition by Tony Bennett demanding SY report on Op Grange.
Post by: Mr Gray on October 22, 2015, 03:33:21 PM
A petition has been launched by TB demanding information on the progress of OG. It will be interesting to see how much support this gets from the vast majority of the public who question the McCanns and think that Grange should be closed. At the moment it stands at 243

Order the Home Office to publish a report on the Madeleine McCann inquiry

Enquiries by British (and Portuguese) police forces have cost around £15 million in 8 years. The public is now entitled to a full report on how that has been spent. The report should cover the role of the government, the security services & UK police forces.

Madeleine was reported missing over 8 years ago. The Portuguese, Leicestershire, the Met & other police forces have spent huge amounts of time & money on the case, but there seems no prospect of further progress. Given the huge interest in the case, the public needs the fullest possible explanations and answers.

An interesting move but can't see the justification for it myself.  The police will do as they think fit regardless of Tony Bennett.

10,000 Votes to get it noticed by The Prime Minister.  100,000 Votes to get it debated in Parliament.
When is the Close Date, does anyone know?

However, you have to admire him for his optimism.

Over 300 now and six months to go 6&%5%.
I can scarcely contain my excitement. At least next year's salmon and trout seasons will have started by then.
I wonder what the mandatory response will be should it hit 10,000. "Dear Tone Thank you for your petition the contents of which has been noted"?. Mind you it would be a gasser if O.G were wound up before April 22nd. I wonder what happens in that eventuality?

Petitions like this will never achieve anything because they are idiotic and pathetic imo. I for one never agreed with Bennetts harassment tactics, wtf does he think he is?

Acting on the basis of sour grapes has never been seen as being very dignified.

I don't think SY can provide any answers which sort of renders this Petition a bit pointless.

I think he is just making a complete fool of himself.

Why on earth would the authorities risk compromising an active police investigation into a missing child as he proposes?

Must surely be an unheard of request as well as a decidedly odd thing to do particularly from a person professing a desire for "Justice for Madeleine".

And how much is this Full Report going to cost?  According to Mr Bennett who was the first to champion an Investigation, until The McCanns didn't get arrested, it is perfectly okay to waste money on things that he thinks are important, but not on things he doesn't agree with.  Lol.

SY and OG have no obligation to give any kind of information about the investigation to Tony Bennett or any member of the public. How does he expect the police to run any sort of investigation if they kept the public up to date as to what they were doing? I think that he missed an opportunity to keep quiet, but unfortunately, he has to always be in the limelight. A silly old fool.

He has always been trying desperately hard to get The McCanns into Court on some pretext or another.  So far he has failed miserably.  I am simply not sure where he thinks this will lead.  But I feel quite safe in betting that he won't get anywhere near the number of votes he requires.

That would appear to be the crux of it Brietta, why on earth having come so far and spent so much already would any police force want to give away any crucial leads or findings?

Does Bennett not realise that his silly Petition could damage the search for the truth and not assist it?

But isn't that what he wants to do?  Mr. Bennett is going to look like a right nasty, pillock if The Abductor and or Madeleine are ever found.

And how much does he think this Review will cost?

I thought he was asking for a report rather than a review. This need be no more than Ms Wall standing up and giving a press conference.
Not that it will happen as not enough people are sufficiently interested to sign his petition.

Someone will have to review the whole thing to get the information that Mr. Bennett wants, so how many man hours would that be likely to take?
But you are right.  No one is interested enough.

I was going to suggest that he put in a Freedom of Information Request, but he's already tried that and got blown away.  This should have told him something, like, No.

I actually agree with Bennett....I think we should have some sort of explanation of what the money has been spent on and what progress has been made...not now but when Grange is closed if nothing is found.
The petition is a chance to show your views but despite a lot of whinging about grange on here it seems very few are willing to express their view

I don't follow your logic Dave.   How is such a Petition a chance to show our views?   The police will only report something if it is in the public interest and whilst there is a current and live investigation going on that won't be any time soon regardless of Mr Bennett.

On another point I agree with Carly.  What the hell did Bennett think he was doing by harassing the McCanns at their home and by handing out flyers condemning them?  Just imagine how you would feel if that happened to you at your house.

there has been a lot of criticism of Grange on here saying it should be closed...waste of money etc. When the same people have a chance to stand up and be counted it seems there is not the wish to do so. If there were a lot of people who think Grange should be closed I would have expected this petition to have more support.

Obsession or just terribly sad?

How can SY possibly give information, regarding an investigation that is sworn to secrecy by Portuguese law?
These same laws apply to OG, whilst  they are investigating the same case as already reopened by the Portuguese.

Carly got it right in her post.

What is wrong with the man?

He seems to have had an obsession with some strange causes.

I liked this one:
"Whilst still a member of UKIP, Bennett co-founded the "Active Resistance to Metrication" (A.R.M.), a pressure group opposed to metrication, in June 2001".

He seems to have been a bit slow off the mark there. We had decimal coinage in 1971 and the engineering industry in all its many forms was pretty much all metric by the mid to late seventies.

Hahahaha! But knowing of him and his persona he would claim he is Gods advisor! and probably disagrees with him on occasion.

You would think with his education and known genuis he puts this to pathetic, pedant causes. His self belief is quite breathtaking, his arrogance is evident. We must feel sorry for such people who live with such insecurities they take to bullying. His behavour toward the McCANNS was/is dispicable and he deserved to be called on that and punished.

Thank you for that link Alice, very entertaining!
