Title: What happened when Gerry said "no comment" in that instance?
Post by: Robittybob1 on January 16, 2017, 06:37:20 PM
Alfie: What happened when Gerry said "no comment" in that instance?  A whole new conspiracy was born!

http://miscarriageofjustice.co/index.php?topic=7877.msg376264#msg376264

I would like to explore the history behind this incident mainly because I'm not aware of it.  What is the story there?
Title: Re: What happened when Gerry said "no comment" in that instance?

Gerry was asked quite early on by The Media if he knew Robert Murat.  He said that he wasn't going to answer that, presumably due to the Secrecy Laws.

Presumably this question came after Murat was made an arguido.  Is that correct?

"A couple of days after Robert Murat was taken in for questioning by the Portuguese Police and formally declared a suspect, Dr Gerald McCann was asked: “Did you already know Robert Murat?” Dr McCann brushed the question aside impatiently and said: “I am not going to comment on that”. That led many to consider that the two men did previously know each other." JH forum.
“Did you already know Robert Murat?”
is different from the often quoted question " “Did you know Robert Murat?”  For were they trying to work out "Did you know Robert Murat before you came to Praia da Luz"?

And even if someone says Robert denied knowing the McCanns that doesn't stop Gerry knowing (something) about Robert.

Yes, if I recall correctly.  I have always wondered what the big deal was all about.

I think Gerry was just having a bad day and switched into arsehole mode when questioned by reporters. Easily done when you are stressed.

I'll go with that.
It is easily enough done even when one is not in "arsehole mode" if one does not wish to be sucked into a  particular conversation. I think he was remarkably restrained, I would have been in FPPM (full pirate's parrot mode).

Gerry "I'm not going to comment on that"

Seems fair in the long run.

Blown up by conspiracy theorists at the time (and I believe one of our more notorious forum members also holds this view to this day) that Murat and McCann were known to each other before the holiday even started.

But even if they had, would it matter?  If they were personal friends maybe it could have been a conflict of interest.

If it turned out they had been friends but both lied about it in PdL then it might look a bit suspicious, but they weren't friends before so no one lied.

I wonder what the point of this 'No comment' was? Not secrecy anyway;

When asked if on any occasion Madeleine was injured, he says that he has no comments........The lawyer for the defence says he wishes the arguido to be asked again if Madeleine bled. To which he said it was common for Madeleine to have nosebleeds. He says that he doesn't know if in fact his daughter bled while on holiday in Portugal
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/GERRY-MCCANN-ARGUIDO.htm

Nosebleeds are often caused by dry air which dries the lining of the nose. It can also be caused by taking antihistamines for allergies and by nose picking. I wonder what caused Madeleine's regular nosebleeds.

It would be interesting to know who had hay fever and why they were using a remedy that was only available on a 'named patient' basis.

terfenadine is only available in the UK on a named-patient basis through specialist importers. There are no longer any licensed preparations containing terfenadine available in the UK (November 2005)
http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=-1576665050

unlicensed medicines can be imported/used in the UK for the ‘special needs’ of an individual
doctor’s patient. This is known as ‘named patient’ supply. Unlicensed medicines can only be prescribed
by physicians if they are satisfied that there are no suitable licensed alternatives.
http://www.durbinglobal.com/assets/files/Imports/Unlicensedmeds.pdf

Before Madeleine's disappearance, I had only consulted Kate McCann once and never had assisted Gerry, nor ever had reason to deal with the twins Sean and Amelie
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/RICHARD_SCHOFIELD.htm

Their doctor of 14 months doesn't mentioned prescribing it for Madeleine, but then he doesn't mention if he ever saw Madeleine at all.

Very sly.
For anyone who's read the above and is putting 2+2 together to make a sedation theory complete with tumbling tot off a wobbly chair they should also note that terfenadine is a non-sedating antihistamine.

I don't think Gerry had this drug....  it makes no sense...perhaps the statement was taken incorrectly.

if you google fibre dos fenos...hay fever in Portuguese.....and look at Portuguese wikipaedia  terfenadina is the first drug that comes up as a treatment for hay fever...

terfenadine is the generic name so it may be that this is term used for hayfever medicines...like calling all pens biro's

Medicamentos[editar | editar código-fonte]
A medicação mais vezes utilizada nos casos leves a moderados são os anti-histamínicos orais que bloqueiam o receptor H1 da histamina, um dos principais mediadores responsável pelos sintomas. Alguns destes medicamentos são a terfenadina,

so why does the current portuguese wiki page talk of terfenadina as the first line of treatment for hay fever when it is no longer available.....too much of a coincidence

Why are pirates pirates ? because they ARRR!

Here is another crappy pirate joke:
"I once sailed for a cap'n who always wore a red shirt into battle. I asked him why and he told me "If'n I be stabbed, me men will no see the blood and continue to fight on as bravely as I." A few weeks later, we were sieged 12 galleons sailing in the Queen's navy, each of them loaded with cannons and 50 men armed to the teeth an lookin' fe pirate blood.
And the captain turned to me and goes "before the battle begins, would ye fetch me brown pants?"

They had a drug which had had it's licence withdrawn due to dangerous side effects. Nevertheless whoever prescribed it thought that drug and no other was necessary because they went to the trouble of prescribing it on a named patient basis, which requires a lot of record keeping and justification. I wondered why it was so important, that's all.
