Title: Is this latest gender pay parity hullabaloo just another damp squid?

Let's have your views on this latest demand for gender pay parity.

Can there ever be such a thing as gender pay parity across the board?   Stacking shelves in Tesco or Asda might be one area where pay parity can be achieved but is that always the case?

Will women always be at a disadvantage to men regardless of their chosen career?

Your views please.

In my experience most women need more time off for all sorts of things and although they might well do the same work as men in theory, their commitment to the job is not the same. Women have traditionally been the main carer in families so they tend to be the one to take time off when crises occur.  Small businesses cannot afford to employ additional staff to cover these absences so won't take the chance.

The hullabaloo seems to be that companies like Ryanair and Easyjet has a much larger gender pay disparency simply because most pilots are male and most cabin staff are female. It's all hot air anyway as individual people should be paid on the basis of qualifications, experience, capability, reliability etc..

Women have traditionally been responsible for caring, but has that been due to social expectations rather than gender differences? Many men seem happy to fulfil these traditionally 'female' roles in recent years. Some are happy to be 'house husbands' rather than breadwinners.  Others are happy to share childcare duties when they can. Men now clean, wash and cook just as much as women do.

In my opinion it''s time to stop assuming that a person's gender defines them.
