Hello everyone,
I am Luz from Portugal, and as you can easily guess English is not my primary language.
Because this is my first post here I wish to express my vehement belief that, in order to live in community, we must confine our behaviour within rules that make such life viable but we haven’t to submit to rules that make life unbearable.
I have been very interested on justice/injustice issues around the world since an early age and it has defined my personal and professional life.
I am against capital and life sentences, because I believe that even the hardest criminal can be recovered (but I am also convinced that there is no country in the world that works towards this aim on what concerns their jailed citizens) and I am for statutory measures, individually considered, no matter what the crime was; after 10/20 years it’s immoral to convict someone if that person has never in his/her life ever committed any other unlawful or immoral act since and has proved to be a contributing member to society.
During my early years I could only count with printed material and it meant that most of the time the events/subjects that interested me were already outdated. With the internet in the late eighties everything became much more vivid, and consequently more worrying and anguishing...
More recently, since the advent of the chats and forae formats, I’ve lurked a lot, and still do, but only became active when Madeleine McCann went missing.
Because it was such a “close to home” incident which (apart from personal info) was bombarded to us by every TV channel and newspapers from the early May 4th, 2007, I very soon (late May/early June, 2007) started interacting with other disquieted readers/viewers in the late Mirror Forum. As history followed I proceeded to the 3As, later to MissingMadeleine and even JillHavern,…but by this time (6 years had passed) I was already hurt by the way discussions were being carried on.
I still lurk every day to keep up to date with the news and I find HiDeHo’s videos very powerful to remind people that a child went missing and that JUSTICE is something that has been also missing towards her.
I guess I will not be posting much, but I have a lot to learn from other cases I've already found on this site.
Thank you very much for all the work you are doing and thanks for having me.
Luz
