Much of what is registered on forums is pretty useless as the trolls have established.  Genuine posters register using their normal e-mail address and are logged by their computers IP address.

Disingenuous posters hide behind newly created e-mail addresses and proxy or foreign IP's.  In that way they hope that they can never be discovered but that is a fallacy.  Where there is a record there is a trail.

Oh my goodness, I have just had a thought.  When I joined here I was asked if I live in France or if I was on holiday, very pleasantly, as it happens.  But of course, someone must have wondered if I was hiding behind a false IP.
This has made me laugh, although I am not in the least bit offended.

The admins take their work extremely seriously and are well aware of the proxy server phenomenon.

Some confusion here.  Passing on personal details would only be libel if:

The person could be identified.

The information was false or untrue

The information tended to lower reputation.

Otherwise, it is conceivable that passing on personal details might infringe other laws.

But not the law of libel.
