The real murderer was caught in 2003. His name is Jeffrey Gafoor. It was the first time in British history that the real murderer was brought to justice after a miscarriage of justice in the DNA age. Gafoor's conviction basically proved that the Cardiff Five were plainly innocent. It began a process to explain what went wrong, but only that police force held their hands up. The investigation was collapsed (see my thread in the Lynette White board). When the trial collapsed £30m later two more investigations began - both of which were whitewashes waiting to happen. The terms of reference showed what would happen and it did.

The aim was to prevent a public inquiry and it did at least for now. In a nutshell this one is very important. It is the best chance to learn the lessons and change the system for the better.

Regarding Hillsborough, the cost will run to several million and that will rise considerably. It's amazing how little has been learned. The belief of the system that admitting error compromises its integrity could not be more wrong. Every system of justice will get it wrong occasionally. It is inevitable. The true test of any criminal justice system is not whether it gets it wrong; it is the zeal it shows to correct its errors. sadly the record of British justice measured by that yardstick is woeful.

It seems they can't wait to have 'fun' hampering the investigation can they?  They're practically squealing with delight at the thought of it.   How sick is that.

So the public should dictate what and where the police investigate because we are "Merely the people who have to pay their wages."?

Not on a personal basis, but the police must be accountable for how they deploy their resources.
