Hello Everyone,

Apologies for the tardiness in introducing myself. Thanks for having me on the site.

I am not generally much of a blogger, but am enjoying being on this site and interacting with you all. The site is well moderated, and there seems to be a very good balance of different opinions and areas of interest, which I think is one of its main strengths.

I bring to this forum no specialist knowledge of any kind, other than having taken a few courses in criminology and psychology some years ago, whilst studying for a degree in a completely unrelated area. I developed an interest in the McCann case relatively recently, and I am enjoying the process of familiarising myself with its many aspects.

For several reasons we lack sufficient pointers as to be sure of exactly what took place on the night of Madeleine McCann's disappearance, hence a largely directionless investigation, which during the past seven years has morphed into a sprawling mass of both formal and informal elements.

I have come to no firm personal conclusions as to what may have happened to Madeleine, either on the night of her disappearance or since, and, given the number of uncertainties surrounding it, wonder how anyone in all honesty could.

I do at times question whether the case really is as complicated as it is often portrayed as being. It is possible that its vast number of uncertainties, and the enormous amount of documentation and written material of all kinds that has been generated in relation to it, have merely created a veneer of complexity, behind which there could in theory be a reality with a much simpler explanation.

Consequently, my approach in looking at the case is to weigh up the evidence for their having been a relatively simple plan in place, and to try to rule some of the simpler options out before going on to consider a more elaborate operation.

Best wishes to all

Sherlock

You are of course very right, there is no conclusive evidence of much but I have yet to see any that points directly to an intruder. Its like so many things that point to nothing at all.
I cannot buy into the 'kidnap/abduction' theory because of the lack of evidence, yet I cannot either come up with enough evidence to  prove, a motive and how to whether the parent attributed to either her death or her going missing (dead or alive). I suppose if we wait long enough and live long enough, we'll get the answers.

Good to have you on board Sherlock.  The Madeleine case is both simple and complicated depending on your personal perspective.  Certainly, the evidence can be taken to mean two completely different things which has always been the difficulty.
De troothe has the annoying habit of coming to the surface just when you least expect it!!

Je ne regrette rien!!

Thanks for the welcome, Angelo.

Yes, that's a good way of putting it. Let's hope, complex or simple, we will reach some kind of conclusion soon.

I agree, Joanne-  it is almost like a riddle sometimes.

Hope you are enjoying the forum.

I discovered this page to-day ! I could never have been a sleuth ! Too late to say welcome!
I'm very much convinced that the Madeleine case is no mystery, but a very simple tragedy. It was launched though as a spectacular abduction, shutters broken, window open, borders shut, helicopters flying over the Algarve, yachts boarded and searched... A little girl had disappeared silently from her bed, the most intimate sanctuary, a bed that pictures show almost untouched. It doesn't make sense, reality is much more simple, though it is sometimes horribly cruel.
