Davel that has nothing to do with my post. Martin Grime was clear that Eddie didn't alert to decaying pork in a waste bin and wouldn't alert to cooked pork.

The result from scientific experiments and research to date is suggestive that the scent of human and pig decomposing material is so similar that we are unable to 'train' the dog to distinguish between the two.


So if we had a severed foot.... I presume the dog would alert

Why not a severed trotter..

It could be an interesting experiment.  When does a pig carcass become a decomposed cadaver or pig meat?
Could part of the carcass become decomposed and another part be classed as meat?

In an abattoir the cadavers are chilled to 3°C & dried immediately after slaughter and remain chilled/frozen. This restricts microbiological activity as well as chemical & physical changes. I guess you'd have to experiment by leaving the meat in various states of storage & at different warmer temperatures then assess the levels of decomposition.

I'm quite superstitious about that.  I have only kind thoughts when I attend my stock.
