Nora Quoirin: Body found in search for missing London teenager in Malaysia

The Lucie Blackman Trust said it is "likely" that the body found in the search is that of the missing 15-year-old. 8

Police in Malaysia say they have found a body in the search for missing London teenager Nora Quoirin.

Nora, 15, was reported missing on 4 August while on a family holiday at a jungle resort near Seremban, around an hour south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Police have confirmed that rescuers have found a body near to where she was reported missing.

A spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which is handling media enquiries for Nora's family said it is "likely" the body is that of the missing teenager.

In a statement, the LBT said: "The Lucie Blackman Trust can confirm a body has been found in the search for Nora Quoirin.

"At this time we cannot confirm it is Nora. However it sadly seems likely.

"Investigations are under way to confirm identity and cause of death.

"The charity will update as soon as possible."

Hundreds of people joined the search operation to try to find Nora, who was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and has special needs.

Nora's mother made a heartfelt plea on Monday to find her, and a £10,000 reward was offered for information leading to her safe return.

Her parents, Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, thanked those looking for her, many of which are volunteers, as a fundraiser for the family reached £100,000.

On Monday, Ms Quoirin said: "Nora is our first child.

"She has been vulnerable since the day she was born.

"She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking. We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us find her."

Nora's father found she was not in her bedroom on the morning of 4 August, when he went in and discovered the window was open. A family friend said it was "out of character" for her to "go wandering off".

At the early stages of the investigation, police in Malaysia said there was no evidence of foul play, but her family repeatedly insisted she had been abducted.

As the days continued, police investigated footprints in the forest as well as fingerprints on the open window of a downstairs hallway in the resort where Nora and her family were staying.

At the end of last week, her parents gave more details of her special needs, clarifying that she can read like a young child, but cannot write more than a few words, and cannot do maths, making money impossible to manage.

She also cannot make or receive phone calls independently.

TRAGIC FIND Nora Quoirin’s cops find ‘white-skinned, female body’ near waterfall in Malaysian jungle a mile from hotel where missing Brit girl, 15, vanished

THE body of white-skinned female has been found in the search for missing Brit Nora Quoirin, the police chief leading the hunt has said today.

Cops used a helicopter and sniffer dogs in an expanded search for the 15-year-old London girl who disappeared from her bedroom at a nature resort 10 days ago.

Mohammed Yusop, the state police chief, said: “I can confirm a body has been found in the Betembum mountains. It is not in an accessible place.”

The white-skinned body was intact and forensic and a pathologist were on the scene which has been sealed off, he said.

A spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which is handling media enquiries for Nora's family said it is "likely" the body found is that of the missing teenager.

A source told the Mirror: “The police need to confirm it’s definitely Nora, because the local population bury their relatives in shallow graves in the area. They are trying to get down there now.”

Nora’s family says they discovered her missing from her bedroom at the Dusun eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state on Sunday morning with the window left open.

The family are convinced it is a criminal matter but local police initially said there were no signs of foul play.

However they later revised their opinion saying that Nora had been “taken” but not “abducted”.

District police chief Mohamad Nor Marzukee Besar said rescuers scoured areas surrounding the resort until 3 a.m. Tuesday but found no clues.

He said the operation involving over 160 people resumed later Tuesday morning, with a helicopter, sniffer dogs and villagers aiding in an expanded comb through the dense jungle.

"We also searched at night but so far, there are no new leads. The operation is ongoing," he told The Associated Press by phone, adding that further updates will be given at a news conference later.

The parents of Nora Quoirin, who has learning and developmental disabilities, are an Irish-French couple who've lived in London for about 20 years, according to the Lucie Blackman Trust, a British charity support people during a crisis overseas.

A member of staff at the hotel told The Sun Online there is 'no way of knowing' if the window was opened from the outside or the inside. The area is not covered by CCTV.

'TRIP OF A LIFETIME'
The teen had only arrived a day earlier with her parents and two siblings at the resort - in a nature reserve near Seremban, 39 miles south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

It was the start of a two-week "trip of a lifetime" with her mum, dad and two siblings, a family friend said.

Nora's mum Meabh is originally from Belfast while her father is French - with her parents having lived in London for around 20 years.

Speaking from Belfast, the girl's aunt Aisling Agnew said: "Nora is a child with special needs and has learning and developmental disabilities which make her especially vulnerable and we fear for her safety.

"Nora would not know how to get help and would never leave her family voluntarily. We now consider this a criminal matter."

LBT said this morning that a heavy police presence has been deployed - including sniffer dogs - as part of the desperate search.

Mr Searle added: "This is a very vulnerable young girl missing in a remote location.

"It is possible she has been seen or taken in by somebody and is unable to communicate, so we urge everyone who can to share our appeal poster and social media appeals.

"Sadly it is also possible that Nóra has been the victim of serious crime – we urge anyone with any information to come forward."

REMOTE RESERVE

The Dusun is a 12-acre orchard resort next to the Berembun Forest Reserve - 4,000 acres of protected virgin forest rising to 3,900 feet.

The forest has wild boar, deer, giant millipedes, monkeys and leeches, according to the resort's website.

There are two small villages near the resort where the majority of residents work in farming of the local land.

Nora is understood to have been travelling on an Irish passport.

A spokesman for Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs said: "We are aware of the case and providing consular assistance."

The family has set up an email address where information can be passed on at findnoraq@gmail.com.

The LBT has also provided a hotline and email address for information.

People can remain anonymous and can call +448000988485 or email ops@lbtrust.org.

Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I can't find anything in The Guardian and only small articles in Independent and Telegraph probably copied from elsewhere as opposed to direct reporting.

Only the British tabloids have the case as a headline story.

Probably because they view her as a British child.  Other countries will naturally be less interested - IMO

An officer at the scene said rescue teams were attempting to reach the body which is difficult to access.

Hours before the body was found volunteer searcher Shirley Yap told Mailonline they were going to look around a waterfall.

She said: 'We had heard she was excited about seeing a waterfall when she arrived in the resort.

'We are going to look around that area and follow the stream down the mountain'

The Malaysian papers are now reporting the case but no idea if they have reporters on the ground or just regurgitating from elsewhere.

It's possible she wandered off on her own to explore this waterfall and got into trouble.

That is my current thinking.

The reports said the body is in an area difficult to access.

I think maybe she's gone looking for the waterfall & fallen down a steep drop.

I'm not exactly sure at the moment but I would like to see evidence of reporters from the likes of BBC and Sky on the ground in the resort.  Where's Martin Brunt when we need him?!

How do we know Mohammed Yusop is the state police chief?

There's no point in sending out reporters to Malaysia now.
