Perhaps it simply didn’t occur to him to shoot the dog at the time, or perhaps the dog was cowering under the bed and he couldn’t be bothered to try and get at him.  Nevertheless he DID kill the dog within 24 hours without any apparent sentimentality or conscience at all.  If you knew that your next of kin would do the same to your most beloved pet within 24 hours of your death what would you think of them, seriously?

He didn't like the dog who I understand was somewhat temperamental.

I would not entertain an animal in the home for hygiene reasons.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Wasn't there something about expensive electrical equipment? I guess he didn't want to risk it peeing on it. added to which, the lifestyle he had in mind wasn't dog oriented.

You’re obviously all heart Holly.  To think that you can actually sympathise with Jeremy’s decision to kill his mother’s dog 24 hours after her own death simply beggars belief.

Ann Eaton also mentioned disliking the dog.

If my sister and all her family died (heaven forbid) I would be lumbered with two very active dogs.  I’m not a dog person and wouldn’t want to keep them but would certainly do everything I could to look after them until they could be found another home, or at the very least I would get the RSPCA to take them.  The idea that I could phone up the vet the day after their deaths and get them put down just does not compute.

I have my doubts about whether you'd find a vet willing to do it these days -unless it was a dangerous breed which had attacked.

It was said to have been a one person dog. Very much June's.

I did wonder about that.  What WAS the vet thinking?  Was he given some cock and bull story by Bamber, or did he just do it no questions asked.  Seems hugely callous IMO, obviously these country folk don't hold with sentimentality whatsoever.

They certainly don't! I've known two who have shot dogs who have bitten them. However, they're also prepared to put out of misery an animal which is suffereng.

I suppose that's Jeremy's get out clause on this particular issue.  The dog was missing its owner so kill it.  Makes perfect sense, if you're a robot I suppose.

I think it's fair to point out that for many years April and Caroline were "supporters" arguing against all the arguments they now advocate.

If you read back at my recent posts I have already mentioned that I used to be a supporter! However, I know know a LOT more about the case then I did back then and it was Bamber himself that contributed to my change of mind. I came to my senses Holly!

For those who think JB was responsible why didn't he simply shoot Crispy?

He lived alone in a cottage.  If he wanted a dog he would have had one of his own.

To my mind its interesting to note that June's side of the family were keen to have her jewellery but not so keen to take her little dog Crispy.

The lab, Jasper, who lived outside, was rehomed on another farm.

It would be a lot harder to hit the dog and he wasn't inheriting anything from poor Crispy. He still had the dog killed and since when did his mothers dog become the responsibility of relatives you say hardly had anything to do with them? Bamber told the ver to have Jasper put down too if it couldn't be rehomed but told him not to bother trying to regime Crispy - he couldn't look at the dog I suspect - it knew too much!
