I don't think Jeremy's decision to have the dog put down is particularly relevant as an indicator to his callous nature, there's plenty of other examples of that, such as exterminating his entire family.
Jeremy had quite a lively social life to maintain directly after the massacre, so looking after the dog was not on his radar. I think it's that simple.

Talking of Maida Vale have you found the info which corroborates your assertion that SC had her nails professionally manicured and polished in Maida Vale?

Haven’t even looked, Holly.

But now you’ve jogged my memory I shall have a trawl today...I remember what I’ve read, hence why I recognise LIES so easily  ?{)(**

By the way, you didn’t mention why JB didn’t take Crispy to BDH?

Dogs, and cats, have always been loved by British families....

Yes, some people aren’t animal lovers, but unless they’re wicked they wouldn’t hurt one, such as throwing big stones a baby ducklings or having healthy dogs put to sleep, simply because they don’t like the dog
You'd be surprised. When I bought my house the previous owner's dog suddenly developed 'cancer' and conveniently had to be 'put to sleep' a day after the sale went through.
Turns out she was moving to Florida with her new boyfriend (she was late 60's and widowed, the dog was 6 or 7) and had no immediate family to take it.

I think there's more indifference, than cruelty, but I don't think the 80's were very different from now..............however, I confess to thinking it was taking it a tad too far when a friend took her dog, who she believed to be disturbed, to an animal psychologist. Who knows? Maybe such would have benefited poor Crispy?

BDH isn't en route to MV coming from Essex.

Was there any guarantee BDH would find a good home for a very yappy dog who had only known life on a farm?

JB no doubt thought the best place for Crispy was heaven where he could be reunited with June.

Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

That his current lifestyle -and intended lifestyle- weren't conducive to having a dog, rather than putting it down for the sake of it, is my take on the situation. I wouldn't expect someone, capable of killing their family, to have any second thoughts or remorse.

Holly, I’ve been born and bred in London and I know both Battersea and Maida Vale like the back of my hand.

If one was travelling from Essex it would take a small detour to go to Battersea, drop Crispy off, carry on down Queenstown Road over Chelsea Bridge, down Sloane Street to Knightsbridge, left at HPC up Park Lane, round Marble Arch, then you’re a 5/10 minute drive from MV depending on traffic. Done.

BDH do indeed find loving homes for their dogs. People travel from all over to adopt one. Prince Charles adopted one himself a few years ago to take back to his country pile...

No idea where you get all your wrong information from.

Probably gave him a sense of power too.

Psychopaths love power.

What was the excuse for the relatives?

Ooh, how cruel!

I have heard instances of this, particularly  with cats where owners just leave them when they move...it’s terribly cruel! I think they become like one of the family.

But in the main it is unusual.

No idea. But if you have no affinity for someone else's pet, then they may not give a toss about the dog.
Point being, the dog thing for me is a side issue. OK, yes, he seems to have made a very cold decision, but I don't think we need to bolster the case for him being a cold-hearted, callous specimen.

I don't think any of them needed an excuse, including Jeremy. They all had far more important things to think about than a bad tempered dog who none of them liked.

According to Jeremy, it was temperamental AFTER the murders and he didn't need to think about anything, the vet could have tried to rehome him as he did with the lab thus taking away the responsibility but Bamber said he didn't want the dog rehomed! A callous, selfish man whichever way you look at it - make as many excuses as you like, it won't alter that fact.

Some people might think Jeremy Bamber's detractors will use any excuse to paint him as callous and selfish. There are examples of him being caring; when Ann Eaton was upset by Betty Howie concerning the funeral arrangements Jeremy went straight over to see her and put his arm around her to comfort her. Her reaction was "get off" or "don't touch me" (she couldn't remember which)[w/s 14/05/91 page 47].

I'm sure the 'poor Crispy' brigade know very well that pets in the 1980's weren't doted on like they are today. Injured, sick or unwanted dogs were often put down without a second thought.
Strange.  I seem to remember Lassie was very popular in the olden days and had cinema audiences weaping buckets.  Obviously not people like you or Holly or Bamber, but people who like animals and who consider them friends and comforters, not possessions to be chucked in the skip when one tires of them.
