The police are in the business of gathering physical evidence capable of standing up to scrutiny at any trial and thereafter unless they want a quashed conviction on their hands.

According to Jeremy's supporters, the police at the scene were barely capable of writing their own names, yet they took on board, hook line and sinker what Jeremy told them. Something they can't be blamed for. He was the only source they had.

That's a relief; I though it was something meaningful.
Make your statement meaningful then, beyond “I believe he’s guilty because he was found guilty”.
Not a handwriting expert.

Why are you quoting the post in your reply and also copying the text within the reply body?
That's how I do it sometimes.

It's a valid question. Or it would be were it not for the fact that both Ann and David, were old enough -maybe even at work- at the time Jeremy learned of his adoption, to be too adult to indulge in the sort of cruel jibes which are mainly the reserve of young children.

I have wondered if it was an expression they heard their father use, but had they ever addressed Jeremy as such, he'd undoubtedly have asked his parents what they'd meant and they'd have asked him who'd said it...........
And they obviously keep it quiet till they were about 7 years of age.  This is written in CAL's book.  So the teasing had occurred before they were 7. That attitude toward the two Bamber children can't have improved as they grew older.   A cuckoo in the nest doesn't go away as it gets older.  No the cuckoo displaces the natural offspring from their inheritance.

If Bamber's lips were moving while he was relating the "cuckoo" jibe I would take it from that he was lying.
All along I read that CAL researched her book better than the rest.  So I find it odd that such a damning life-changing bullying attitude that the cousins had toward the Bamber kids existed, has been allowed into her book.  It is more than likely to be true.  We've all seen over the years how adopted children get treated.  I can't think of an example to give right now.

But just to say he must have been lying because his lips were moving is just about a joke isn't it?

And you are acting as a judge assuming it was untrue.   What part was untrue?

You're basically repeating what I said. Jeremy was told of his adoption just before he went to boarding school. We assume, unless he lied, he had no idea prior to that time, ergo, he'd have had no idea what his cousins meant by calling him a cuckoo before that time. I imagine, like most children, he'd have asked his parents................apart and aside from the fact that his cousins were some 10 and 13 years his senior, too far removed in age to have had any interest, BUT, the one person who MAY have named him thus was RWB, who had been, I believe, resentful of Jeremy from the off.

It's just occurred to me that Sheila was told some 3 years ahead of Jeremy. I find myself wondering if she managed to keep the secret from Jeremy, or, might she, when he was being particularly nasty, have let slip, that he was adopted.

It's not I who has ever claimed they were stupid. I think the scene was chaotic but that's entirely different. I'm not surprised that they accepted what Jeremy told them -although, I'm prepared to guarantee, had they not had his input, the investigation would have panned out rather differently- because he was their only frame of reference.

As a parent I think they would have been told at the same time.    The kids were fine with being adopted but the other cousins would still be thinking that one day a  cuckoo would be taking over their nest.  How did they cope with that?   Was it just by staying away?

And do you think any of what he said wasn't true?  Was there a phone call that he assumed was his father?  Were there discussions the night before involving Sheila's kids?

Unless they allowed Sheila to go off to boarding school without telling her -meaning that by the time they told Jeremy and Sheila she was pre-pubescent with all it's ensuing problems- such seems unlikely, but as we're not told, it's not impossible. However, with such a huge age gap, it's unlikely either set of siblings met often.

Not me but that is what CAL wrote (about Jeremy being fine with it),  the rest is how I think peer pressure works.

He is known to have said that it's always best to tell as much of the truth as possible, ergo, there MAY have been discussions regarding the boys -it would be strange grandparents who showed no interest- but they were not necessarily of the type Jeremy was suggesting. I don't believe there to have been ANY phone call. Had Jeremy's reaction to the one he claimed he received been other than it was, ie, that of an actor doing a cold read through of a script, and treating it as if it were of no great importance, I might think differently.

From a personal aspect, not one of my 'cousins' ever mentioned my adoption, although one poor little chap, sobbed inconsolably after we'd visited. It seems he was terrified his mother was going to give him away and he didn't want to be adopted.
