I was shocked at his conclusion that :

"The McCann's behaviour is consistant with that of a couple united in covering up a tragedy"

This is the top profiler in the land,  remember,  working for the police

Ah the current 'top profiler in the land' - remind me, what happened to the previous 'top profiler in the land'?

Yep, one Paul Britton

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1311800/Real-life-police-Crackers-solve-cases-par-fortune-tellers.html

Yet another professional who must be discredited in the McCann case then  ?   ...  how many does that make now  ?

Nah, too much praise - Britton discredited himself - but I have a box set of 'Cracker' going cheap at 10 squid

If fantasy floats your boat

So a cut and paste job by the Daily Express, replicated on a rabidly pro McCann forum, passes muster as evidence of the content of a 30 page document, does it ?

Hello Faithlilly.

I asked a question further up.

Isn't it normal practice for the police to clear the ground under their feet?

It is indeed but the point being made is Lee Rainbow, a man at the top of his profession in the UK, cited discrepancies in Gerry McCann's statement as grounds to make him a suspect. Those discrepancies have not simply vanished.

Remind me, isn't there another top profiler involved in this case? An American?

I am sure after her in-depth studies she also concluded that the McCanns were involved in the cover-up too.

Didn't she go as far as to claim that Gerry brought Madeleine back to England (after she had been buried in a tourist spot down a few kilometres down the Algarve coast) in a knapsack on his back as he flew from Portugal to Heathrow and nobody spotted the corpse or sensed it in any way?

Profiling is hardly a reliable tool is it?

It is not the professional but the technique of "criminal profiling", a pseudoscience which never solved a single case explaining the mecanisms implied ... ie, if it resolves something, it is by chance as the fortune tellers ... Heri

AFter the Rachel Nickell debacle, criminal profiling is not used in the UK. IIRC

Yes, it was the UK police who suggested to the PJ to investigate parental involvement.

Amaral states in his book that on the 4th of May 2007 that he suspected the parents might be involved. This would suggest that he did not prioritise abduction.

There are also Portuguese newspaper reports which specifically state from police sources that the PJ suspected the parents on the first day of the investigation.

Believing in criminal profiling as a science (akin to physics or chemistry)

Is like a gambler believing in God - if the gambler joins the heavenly choir - he will get a warm welcome

If he dies and there ain't no heavenly choir - just a void - he's lost nothing.

He hedges his bets in other words.

Criminal profiling is as scientific as Krügel's  'quantum sniffing machine' is scientific

How do you mean  'involved'  in the investigation  ?

As far as I am aware,  Lee Rainbow,  the country's leading expert,  who works exclusively for the police,   was the only profiler to be given access to police information and evidence before coming to the conclusion that  :

"The McCann's behaviour is consistant with that of a couple united in covering up a tragedy"

Please provide a link to that quote so that I can read it in context. It is a forum rule that you should provide links to support your claims. It is also simply polite to do so.

Quotes out of context are meaningless.

I have seen all too well what so-called experts are capable of in the UK.  You only need to look at the Shirley McKie case in Scotland when WPC McKie was accused of leaving her finger prints at a murder scene yet she wasn't even there.  The entire band of Scottish fingerprint experts came out against her yet in the final analysis they were shown to be WRONG.  What a bunch of idiots!  Experts?  pah

Criminal Profilers can only give an opinion, nothing else!
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

There is nothing  'meaningless'  about that quote,  and you know it

You also know that it was read out publicly in a court of law and reported back via twitter from the Sky reporter present

There is  no direct link because the Rainbow report does not appear in the translated police files  ...  but you know that too

I suppose the next step is to confine the  'known'  opinion of  Lee Rainbow to the  'Myths'  section ....

*sigh*

Sorry I stand by my contention that a tiny quote from a 30 page document is largely meaningless when not seen in the context of the whole document.

For example this is a direct quote from the same document as you are quoting from. Not a single word changed.

“It should be stressed that there is no evidence to directly support an involvement of the family"

And an interesting comment from Goncalo Amaral's book, Ch 7.

All the same, according to the English profilers, there is a 90% chance that he [MURAT] is the guilty party.

You can sigh as much as you like but the fact remains that quotation you provide without context is meaningless.

Criminal Profilers can only give an opinion, nothing else!

That's what I invited the forum to do  ...  discuss Lee Rainbow's  opinion

So far,  that invitation has not been taken up

Instead of just dismissing it out of hand by discrediting his profession  ... doesn't anyone what to discuss the  substance   of his opinion  ?

He felt that the McCann's behaviour was consistant with that of a couple united in covering up a tragedy

That must be worthy of some debate,  surely ?
