His opinion is probably consistent with what he has gleaned from reading the statements.  It doesn't prove anything however as many other conclusions can also be drawn form the same statements.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

I have seen all too well what so-called experts are capable of in the UK.  You only need to look at the Shirley McKie case in Scotland when WPC McKie was accused of leaving her finger prints at a murder scene yet she wasn't even there.  The entire band of Scottish fingerprint experts came out against her yet in the final analysis they were shown to be WRONG.  What a bunch of idiots!  Experts?  pah

Criminal Profilers can only give an opinion, nothing else!

That's what I invited the forum to do  ...  discuss Lee Rainbow's  opinion

So far,  that invitation has not been taken up

Instead of just dismissing it out of hand by discrediting his profession  ... doesn't anyone what to discuss the  substance   of his opinion  ?

He felt that the McCann's behaviour was consistant with that of a couple united in covering up a tragedy

That must be worthy of some debate,  surely ?

I have actually discussed his opinion if you care to notice. I didn't like to be rude about the man but he seems confused and inconsistent because he also states in the same report that

“It should be stressed that there is no evidence to directly support an involvement of the family"

My own view is similar to John's. Rainbow has formed an opinion (consistent or confused) based on what he has read. The opinion he has formed is his own.

I have also formed an opinion based on what I have read. My opinion is that there is no evidence which would stand up in any court anywhere which could prove exactly what happened that night and who was involved.

Nomore worthy of debate than the views of diviners or mystics.

OF course the McCanns should have been suspects. An adequate interpretation of the evidence should have closed that line of enquiry, but instead the PJ fell for thepseudo science of the dogs and totally misunderstood the DNA results.

Well I think it presents a fresh angle on that well worn claim  ...  'If the McCanns were not telling the truth, they would just keep quiet and out of the public eye'

Frequently, their high profile campaigning has been presented as 'proof'  of their lack of involement in their child's disappearance

Lee Rainbow,  however,  saw that behaviour as being consistant with a couple united in covering up a tragedy,  which is interesting

Quite - it's that blurring of opinion pieces, with oftentimes badly translated pieces from the PT media and genuine
fact that has the armchair detectives in a tizzy.

I'm of the opinion my horse should have won the Grand National - however it didn't - and I got over that particularly emotional hurdle.

Last time I checked all 3 ex-arguidos were free and innocent people in their respective countries.

Again just one man's opinion.

Not mine though.

I can fully understand why any parents whose daughter is missing would want the search for their daughter to continue. It seems the most natural thing in the world reaction in the world to me. Nothing to do with covering up a tragedy, simply parental instinct.

They could well have just been united in a tragedy.  We now know all too well of what happens every time they open their mouths.  No wonder they need a spokesman.  But even he is torn to shreds on nothing much at all.  And he didn't even know The McCanns beforehand.

And the Portuguese guy who was supposed to be in charge of investigating them has a criminal conviction hanging over his head.   What does that say?   8)-)))

I wonder what Lee Rainbow would say about Mr Amaral's conduct?

Well,  comparing your own opinion with that of the top police profiler who had access to information  you are,  without doubt,  not even aware of,   is  ...  well  ...  your perogative I suppose

And the person responsible for the Interim (Intercalary) Report which people like Hideho and Bennett depend on so much was convicted of actual torture of a suspect.

http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/nacional/portugal/pena-suspensa-para-dupla-da-pj-condenada-por-tortura

Two chief inspectors of the PJ were sentenced on Friday to two years and six months imprisonment with suspended sentence for torture against official Virgolino CP Borges, the victim's lawyer told Lusa.

The news of the sentencing of two inspectors of the Judicial Police was advanced by SIC Notícias.

The collective of judges of the 3rd stick criminal Lisbon condemned the torture inspectors Chief Joseph Diamantino Santos and Vitor Tavares de Almeida and the payment of a fine of 80 euros / month for the same period, attorney Jerónimo Martins told Lusa.

Correct, it is. No 'suppose' about it.

AFter the Rachel Nickell debacle, criminal profiling is not used in the UK. IIRC
This reminds me that Lee Rainbow suggested to "question" the twins, as Rachel Nickell's son's talk, about the same age, was helpful.
Are you sure Lee Rainbow said "The McCann's behaviour is consistant with that of a couple united in covering up a tragedy" ?

A closed mind is a dangerous thing

And in my opinion Amaral's mind was closed within hours of getting the call to co-ordinate the investigation.

Don't they call it the 'golden hour' or somesuch - after a person disappears - the actions that are carried out within that timeframe often determine the outcome of said investigation.

Giving Amaral the benefit of the doubt for a mo - he might have genuinely believed the girl had woken and wandered - and all will be well in the morn

 - which at best makes him a very optimistic chap - at worst a lazy and negligent cop.

There are also Portuguese newspaper reports which specifically state from police sources that the PJ suspected the parents on the first day of the investigation.

No, this article only speaks of a story badly told. Just remember the shutters and window forced according some and not forced according others.

Not sure I am following you. That news article quotes the police as already being suspicious of the people who had given the statements. Thats the point.
