Well it's anyone's guess really. Gerry couldn't even remember which door he was using, so not much chance of him remembering which side of the road he was on.

Isn't the suggestion that he got part way and then turned back? Two times half a crossing then, or perhaps Jez chased him back over with his buggy.

Isn't the suggestion that he got part way and then turned back? Two times half a crossing then, or perhaps Jez chased him back over with his buggy.

But then after those two half crossings and after the chat he would need to cross over to the block 6 side.  Because in the cutting edge documentary it is stated that the approach back to tapas reception was from the block 6 side of the road. So that would make 2 half crossings plus 2 whole crossings.
The maths  is  0.5 - 0.5 + 1 - 1 = 0  which gives us in imperial units the exact amount of sense it makes.

Going on the balance of probability and two witnesses I think the above representation of where the two men were standing is as close as it is possible to get.

However it is an irrelevance whether they were there - in the middle of the road - or at the other side of the road.
