In my grandmother's very little village there used to be what they called "carpideiras" (usually women that were payed to go to funerals and cry out, very loudly - the tone of their crying was consonant with the pay). These women were mostly old, single, very angry with their own lives and found a way to gain money and at the same time do some thing for others - crying.

Nowadays they accuse innocent people of a crime, try to fit them up, write a book about it, get it totaly wrong, then get their friends and families to lie about what is in the Official Police Files. Only in a backwater place

But you forget that the, now THIN, Inspector and his colleagues have been acquitted, since the murderer of her daughter was found and tried as a liar. And convicted for another 7 moths in prison for that.

You have continued to claim an acquittal but refuse to provide a cite. So we can assume that you do not have such proof because it is not correct.

Regarding the 'caution' for the death threat. There are two different types of police behaviour popularly referred to as cautions or cautioning. One is an informal caution- a warning about the likelihood of future police action should such behaviour occur. This is used where police believe that a crime may have been committed but that it does not meet the level required for prosecution. This sort of caution is a one way affair- the person essentially being 'told off'. The second form of caution isa Formal Caution, issued by a Police Officer of at least Inspector rank who decides that a crime has been committed and that there is sufficient evidence to refer it for prosecution, but that it is not necessarily in the interests of justice to do so. The person is formally informed of the fact that they could be prosecuted and given the option of accepting a caution; this requires the person to formally admit to the crime and becomes part of the criminal record.

The poor woman was beaten in prison, and was observed by a doctor only days later because the warden had been absent and had allowed that to happen.

She, the accuser, couldn't have been beaten in the quarters of the police, by those inspectors, on the day and time she proposed, because they weren't there (the ones that supposedly tortured her).

Amaral and the other inspector that was condemned couldn't have reported or acknowledge something that didn't happen.

So why did Amaral sign a Report saying that Leonor was injured when she fell down the stairs if she didn't sustain these injuries until after she left the police station?

Portugal's ambassador to Britain, Senor Antonio Santana Carlos, says that the Madeleine McCann case has seriously damaged relations between the two countries. Well, whose fault is that?



It is the fault of the spectacularly stupid, cruel Portuguese police. I have never much cared for the convention of calling cops "pigs" or "filth", but I am happy to make an exception.

They have tried to cover their humiliation at coming nowhere close to finding that stolen child by fitting up her parents.

The decline in relations is also the fault of the appalling Portuguese media, happy to print any piece of poisonous trash spoon-fed to them by "police sources" treating the abduction of a small child as light entertainment.

And the Portuguese public must also take their share of the blame. The sight of locals jeering at Kate McCann as she went in for questioning made me feel as though these leering bumpkins were not from another country, but another planet.


And the good ambassador can also be blamed for the decline in relations.

When he should be exercising a little diplomacy, he huffs and he puffs about the McCanns' tragic decision to leave their children sleeping alone on the night Madeleine was stolen.

"In Portugal we have the concept of a nuclear family," sniffs Senor Carlos. "That the families all live together."

They made a mistake, ambassador. Their lives have been wrecked. That is punishment enough, without your asinine, unwanted comments.

And I would respectfully suggest that in future, if you can't say something constructive about the disappearance of little Madeleine, then you just keep your stupid, sardine-munching mouth shut.
