Hounding the McCanns is in fact child abuse!
« on: April 20, 2013, 08:23:33 AM »
The McCanns have admitted that, though they believed it was safe to do so at the time, it clearly was a mistake to leave the children alone in the apartment. They have said that this decision will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Their actions in this respect were not found after full investigation by the Portuguese authorities to have constituted neglect, that accusation against them was specifically rejected.

Given those facts, what does the continued hounding of the parents over this issue actually achieve? What is its purpose?

Do the people who engage in this activity do so as public-spirited citizens who feel duty bound to warn the McCanns of the perils of such behaviour? Seriously? Do these people not realise that the loss of a daughter has already had that effect?

Do they do it as a public service perhaps, as the clarion call of danger? Is the motive to warn others of the perils? Well the same answer applies? Is the loss of Madeleine, not warning enough?

Or do they do it as surrogate judge, jury and punishment officer, taking over where they have decided the Portuguese and UK authorities have failed? Do they believe that this hounding is a deserved punishment for the McCann's behaviour and though the legal authorities have deemed otherwise their attitude is that these parents are, by the court of lynch mob opinion, to be seen as guilty?  Remember the one specific allegation of a crime by the McCanns which was dismissed by the Portuguese authorities was that of neglect so it can only be lynch mob justice which hands down punishment.

Whichever motive those hounding the McCanns have for their action and it may not be one of the above, there is a consequence to their action which they appear to ignore.

We cannot affect what happened  back in 2007 in any way, but our behaviour and more specifically their behaviour can and does have effects today. The continued hounding of the McCanns and their Tapas friends for whatever reason has consequences beyond the effect on the parents of Madeleine and their friends. It has direct effects on the lives of the other children caught up as part of the families.

The name calling, the threats, the accusations of all kinds without any proof of any of them is simply abuse not only of the parents and the Tapas group themselves but of their children who will be taunted over these allegations throughout their school lives and beyond. And not one of the allegations is even remotely backed up with proof.

It is simply not good enough to repeat the mantra that the McCanns shouldn't have left the children and that its their fault all this happened.

The reality is that those doing the hounding should also take responsibility now for their actions too. It is their actions which now constitute child abuse. It is their allegations which they simply cannot prove (no-one can) about the McCanns and the rest of the group which will form the basis of the taunts directed at those young children. It is the hounders who are ensuring that those young children cannot escape from such abuse.

There is simply no excuse for abusing children even if that abuse is by proxy through attacks on the parents, particularly when there isn't any proof at all that the allegations being made are true.

If any of those who think it is clever to hound the McCanns have children, then I hope they think carefully about how they would feel if their children were the target of vile abuse because of some mistake they may have made in the past? Perhaps they think it is right for children to be abused in this way? It certainly is beginning to look that way to me.

What will The Hounders do, if and when Madeleine is found and the abductor is caught?  They obviously don't think that it is any fault of the abductor, so will they mount a campaign to defend him?

Have they? The last I was aware they were busy laying the blame elsewhere with the well-worn quotes we all know and love.

Their actions in this respect were not found after full investigation by the Portuguese authorities to have constituted neglect, that accusation against them was specifically rejected.
Was it?  Did the Portuguese really do a "full investigation" into neglect or anything else?  Why do they refer to this as the "interrupted investigation" then?  Where is your proof of this "specific rejection"?

Given those facts, what does the continued hounding of the parents over this issue actually achieve? What is its purpose?
What good does any protest about anything do? It appears that the McCanns and their supporters wish to be free to live in a blue-sky world where no clouds of suspicion ever darken the horizon but that simply cannot be the case whilst the McCanns continually fail to demonstrate they had nothing to do with events in PDL. Both the Portuguese Authorities and Leicestershire Police refer to this ongoing status.  How long did it take Eugene Zapata to come clean about what he did?  Do you think that a few years after the event people were saying, "that's enough now, the poor man has lost his wife, isn't that enough?"  What about the Ramsays?  Are they "in the clear"? Doesn't look like it to me yet.  What about Casey Anthony?  Do you think she's innocent?

Do the people who engage in this activity do so as public-spirited citizens who feel duty bound to warn the McCanns of the perils of such behaviour? Seriously? Do these people not realise that the loss of a daughter has already had that effect?
If the McCanns showed that they had learned from whatever happened and used it as a message to the other idiots out there who still say what they did was "well within the bounds of responsible parenting" then that would be a start.  As it is they continue to deflect and use similar arguments to yours.

Do they do it as a public service perhaps, as the clarion call of danger? Is the motive to warn others of the perils? Well the same answer applies? Is the loss of Madeleine, not warning enough?
As above.  Whilst the McCanns continue to peddle their agenda in the media, they are fair game for criticism.

We'll reserve judgment (unlike the pros) on the UK authorities until the review is over.  The legal authorities have shelved the case, not cleared the McCanns. The pros seem unable to grasp this concept.

Whichever motive those hounding the McCanns have for their action and it may not be one of the above, there is a consequence to their action which they appear to ignore.
The consequence to NOT doing it may be that one more person somewhere may make the same bad error of judgment that the McCanns did and cite the lack of prosecution/condemnation of the McCanns as a reason for thinking it was ok to do the same thing.

So what's your personal statute of limitations then?  The whole T9 had, and still has, the power to improve things by being more accepting of their roles in whatever happened. They are entirely culpable and yet it's still all endless excuses.

The name calling, the threats, the accusations of all kinds without any proof of any of them is simply abuse not only of the parents and the Tapas group themselves but of their children who will be taunted over these allegations throughout their school lives and beyond. And not one of the allegations is even remotely backed up with proof.
Again, those responsible could have done and still could do a whole lot more towards clearing this all up and having less suspicion hanging over them.  To continue to chant "haven't we been through enough" when they haven't addressed and done all they could do and "won't someone think of the children" is weasel behaviour.  I do not want any of the T9 children to be affected but you aren't going to stop suspicion with a switch, it's the lack of action by their parents that is causing the trouble. It's THEM that are perpetrating the abuse here, not those that continue to question their frankly rather implausible tale.

It is simply not good enough to repeat the mantra that the McCanns shouldn't have left the children and that its their fault all this happened.
I agree. The whole T9 should be arrested and properly investigated with full cooperation from both police forces.  If they come out of that without charge, I will then believe all has been done that can be done. Until then I'll believe that they are simply taking advantage of a murky situation of their own causing.

The reality is that those doing the hounding should also take responsibility now for their actions too. It is their actions which now constitute child abuse. It is their allegations which they simply cannot prove (no-one can) about the McCanns and the rest of the group which will form the basis of the taunts directed at those young children. No, it is their parents.

There is simply no excuse for abusing children even if that abuse is by proxy through attacks on the parents, particularly when there isn't any proof at all that the allegations being made are true.
I agree. You're aiming at the wrong people though.  There's also no proof that the T9 story is true but you accept it regardless.

If any of those who think it is clever to hound the McCanns have children, then I hope they think carefully about how they would feel if their children were the target of vile abuse because of some mistake they may have made in the past? Perhaps they think it is right for children to be abused in this way? It certainly is beginning to look that way to me.

"Clever"? No. Right? Yes.  Here we get to the crux of the matter.  Your whole post assumes they had nothing to do with the disappearance of Madeleine.  If they did have, their other children should be far away from them by now.  In the absence of proof to the contrary, they are still rightly under suspicion of involvement both morally and legally.  What does the world look like from that high horse of yours?

The Case was shelved through lack of evidence pointing to who had abducted Madeleine, or disposed of her in some way.  It will only be reopened if there is new evidence.
This means that all of the evidence has been looked at, including any possibility of neglect, which was discarded.
Should The McCanns later be charged with anything at all, it certainly won't be Neglect because there is no evidence to suggest that The McCanns neglected any of their children.

Have they? The last I was aware they were busy laying the blame elsewhere with the well-worn quotes we all know and love.

In which case you are simply wrong. You have clearly not listened to what the McCanns have said. Why am I not surprised?

Their actions in this respect were not found after full investigation by the Portuguese authorities to have constituted neglect, that accusation against them was specifically rejected.
Was it?  Did the Portuguese really do a "full investigation" into neglect or anything else?  Why do they refer to this as the "interrupted investigation" then?  Where is your proof of this "specific rejection"?

The proof is in this paragraph from the Archival report which for all your claims of reading the files you have clearly failed to spot.

"But therefore we do not possess any minimally solid and rigorous foundation in order to be able to state, with the safety that is requested, which was or were the exact and precise crime(s) that was or were practised on the person of the minor Madeleine McCann – apart from the supposed but dismissed crime of exposure or neglect – or to hold anyone responsible over its authorship."

Doesn't look like it to me yet.  What about Casey Anthony?  Do you think she's innocent?

Your understanding of the law is completely flawed. It is not the duty of the person to prove their innocence other than under the rule of the lynch mob. We are not under such a rule no matter how many people fail to understand that. I follow the rule of law, not the rule of the amateur plod on the internet like you. The McCanns do not have to prove anything to you or anyone else. On the contrary, if you wish to point the finger of blame at them and thereby subject the other children to potential abuse then you have a duty to provide the proof for your claims. By not doing so you demonstrate total irresponsibilty.

Simply not true. Please demonstrate that they are deflecting from the truth. They are seeking their daughter.

What agenda is this? That what happened to their daughter should be discovered? Seems a very fair agenda to me. Or are you claiming they have some other agenda. And incidentally your use of the word "peddle" reveals a great deal about your attitude.

We'll reserve judgment (unlike the pros) on the UK authorities until the review is over.  The legal authorities have shelved the case, not cleared the McCanns. The pros seem unable to grasp this concept.

The legal authorities have not cleared you of the crime either. Please explain what procedure is used to clear people against whom there is no evidence of any crime? Your turning of the legal system on its head to try to have a dig at the McCanns is simply sickening.

Are you really so stupid as to think people will not notice that the consequence was to lose a child? Or are you simply so desparate to avoid the issue which is at the heart of this topic. You have just shown that you are ignoring the real consequence of your own continued hounding of the McCanns by trying to divert from it rather than addressing it.

So what's your personal statute of limitations then?  The whole T9 had, and still has, the power to improve things by being more accepting of their roles in whatever happened. They are entirely culpable and yet it's still all endless excuses.

They have accepted their roles. They have addressed that issue. The current issue is the one you have not addressed once in all this post. That of the children who are now facing the consequences of the hounding. The abuse being caused to them by your actions. The McCanns and their friends are not responsible for that. You are.

Where have they chanted any such thing. Go on, show us. The truth is they have done no such thing. You are lashing out at them because you have no defence whatsoever to the charge I have laid at your door. Not one word of your post so far has addressed the serious issue that it is the likes of you who are now damaging and abusing the other children involved from the families involved.  Not one word have you addressed at the effects on those children. Shame on you.

They have been investigated. There was NO evidence of any crime found against them. Just because you are too stubborn or ignorant to accept the rule of law does not mean that you have the right to affect the lives of the other young children because of your continued abuse of their parents.

No, it is their parents.

You have totally failed to address the issue. Simply rebutting it with the phrase, 'no, its the parents' without indicating how your abuse and your inability to accept the rule of law and your continued hounding is the fault of the parents is pathetic.

There is simply no excuse for abusing children even if that abuse is by proxy through attacks on the parents, particularly when there isn't any proof at all that the allegations being made are true.
I agree. You're aiming at the wrong people though.  There's also no proof that the T9 story is true but you accept it regardless.

Your presumption about what I believe is ridiculous. I do not know what happened to Madeleine. But unlike you I am prepared to accept the rule of law and I do not go about hounding a couple and their friends against whom there is no proof of any crime at all. And one of the principal reasons I don't do that is because I consider the effect such an action has on the innocent children caught up in the matter. You clearly do not take that into consideration at all.

If any of those who think it is clever to hound the McCanns have children, then I hope they think carefully about how they would feel if their children were the target of vile abuse because of some mistake they may have made in the past? Perhaps they think it is right for children to be abused in this way? It certainly is beginning to look that way to me.

My post assumes no such thing. If that is your conclusion having read it, then seriously, your reading powers are not up to much.

My post simply accepts the rule of law that people are to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

Your tipping of that rule of law on its head to claim that people have to prove their own innocence is simply an excuse for you to continue your hounding and abusive behaviour. It has no place in a decent society.

Not once did you refer in your post to the actual subject of the thread.

You avoided it at all costs because you simply cannot address the issue that your hounding inevitably is affecting the lives of the innocent children caught up in the matter.

By not even attempting to address that issue you seem to be indicating that it is of no interest to you.

I find that a truly revolting attitude but it lies at the heart of the hounding campaign which you feel is more important than the well being of those innocent children.

Shame on you.

Everyone knows that Madeleine is missing. Everyone knows that the McCanns childcare arrangements may have contributed to that.

But you are not addressing the reality that you as part of the campaign continuing the hounding of the McCanns and their friends are inevitably also abusive to the innocent children involved in the case. Why am I not surprised that you have completely avoided addressing that issue?

The thread title really is tasteless, and demonstrates how the blinkered defense of the McCanns sometimes borders on hysteria

Would you care to explain what in your opinion makes the title tasteless? Do you find concern for childrens welfare tasteless?

Would you care to explain how a concern for the well being of the innocent children who inevitably will face the consequences of the abuse thrown at their parents is somehow bordering on hysteria? Are you suggesting these children will not suffer taunts and worse? Or are you just being dismissive because you cannot address the actual issue?

Same old rubbish as before.

Title of this thread pathetic.

Any reason tried to deflect from what the Mccanns failed to do, i.e. protect their children.

It wasn't just Madeleine they put at risk, it was the twins as well.

All this pious rubbish in the title is precisely that. Anything to defend the Mccanns.

That is the agenda in this thread.

Re: Hounding the McCanns is in fact child abuse!

Well said Gilet - there is no doubt that the actions of these armchair detectives will have had a devastating effect on the children of the McCanns and their friends.  Imagine the effect of discovering that your father has been the subject of a rigorous smear campaign accusing him of being a paedophile.  How damaging and upsetting that must be to those children - do these hateful people care on jot about that?  Nope, as long as they get to pursue their hobby and have their fellow [ censored word ]s applauding and slapping them on the back, they feel that their actions are quite justified. It's sickening and quite frankly makes be despair at humanity (or the lack of it).
Isn't it revealing that nobody with an anti McCann standpoint has been willing to say a single word in the defence of the hounding in relation to the innocent children it affects?

The attitude so far has been either refuse to discuss it claiming that discussing the effects of the hounding on these innocent children is simply tasteless or to ignore the issue and simply repeat the mantra that its all the fault of the McCanns and whatever happens to the children is none of our concern.

The reality is that the effect on these innocent children is devastating and those who because they do not accept the rule of law and continue to hound the parents because they feel they have some sick lynch mob kind of right to do so are in fact the ones who are ensuring that the children will more likely be abused and tormented as they go through school.

It would seem that they feel that is simply a necessary suffering that the children will have to undergo to pay for what in their twisted idea of law is the parent's guilt in a crime which there is no evidence they committed and which the authorities have cleared them of.

The children may suffer more because of it, but these amateur plods and online abusers must have their freedom of speech to accuse at will even when they haven't got any real evidence. Thankfully the vast proportion of society doesn't agree with that viewpoint.

"hounding...blah blah blah". "[ censored word ]s...blah blah blah", "no evidence... blah blah blah", "vile... blah blah blah", "innocent...blah blah blah".

Heard it all before.  It's all you have. Stuck record.  The McCanns and their friends were not charged as the police do not have admissible evidence that will secure a conviction.  They have not been cleared.  They are implicated in the events surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine. They have failed to prove they could not have been involved.  This is all a matter of record.  That you, like the McCanns, are attempting to shift the blame elsewhere makes them no less culpable for their actions.

The shame lies with you and your fellow supporters that blindly support these people and their actions, thus proliferating the message that it's ok to leave your children alone and go out and have a good time.

As Icabod says, this is a tasteless discussion now I think about it. I'm out.

No more, no less.

And we have yet another response which does not even mention the effects on these children of the abuse they will receive.

Just the same old mantra.  We know all about the actions of the McCanns six years ago.

This thread is not about that. It is about YOU.

But you show no ability at all to understand the basic reality that your own behaviour is contributing to the situation.

Selfishness personified at the expense of those innocent children. You wish to abuse the parents, you wish to accuse them of things without real evidence and you do not give a damm how that will impact on the young children do you?

You cannot even bring yourself to address the issue let alone justify your actions in relation to those children.
