Tend to agree with you Luz in general. Only thing it has done is spread confusion and speculation and obfuscation. From month old babies to grown women being abducted or missing, many cases involving parental abduction, paedophiles who assault teenagers, paedophiles who only go for boys,  seems there is no case that cant be linked to the disappearance of a three yr old. Quite extraordinary and unprecedented.

Extract from Kate's book:

One of the most concerning and upsetting pieces of information to emerge (from the release of the files) quite early was the record of sexual crimes against children in the Algarve.

The discovery made me feel physically sick. I read of five cases of British children on holiday being sexually abused in their beds while their parents slept in another room.

In three further incidents, children encountered an intruder in their bedrooms, who were presumably disturbed before he had the chance to carry out these assaults.

I guessed these were the reports that Bill Henderson had told me about. These incidents had occurred within an hour's drive of Praia da Luz over the three years prior to Madeleine's disappearance. The PJ had never mentioned any of them to us. In fact, I gathered from the files, some hadn't even been recorded by the authorities.

So they might never have come to light if the parents of these children hadn't been brave enough to come forward to the British police after Madeleine was taken and relive their nightmares.

They did so in the belief there could be a link between what happened to their children and what happened to her.

It broke my heart to read the terrible accounts of these devastated parents and the experience of their poor children.

....

The parents had called the police. They hadn't felt that the crime was taken seriously by the police or by their tour operators. Statements were often not taken. DNA and finger print evidence was frequently not sought. In most instances there was no sign of a break in.

I cried for hours after reading a letter of complaint from one mother regarding the sexual abuse of her daughter and the lack of proper attention paid to it.

The final line in particular has haunted me ever since:

"It is difficult to see with this lack of investigation or interest how a profile of this man can be built up. It did not appear to us that there was any great incentive or determination to find the offender and bring him to justice. Furthermore, it could all have been so much worse...indeed this man could go on to do much worse to another child if he's not stopped now".

Six months later, our beloved Madeleine was grabbed from her bed. Of course, none of these children was abducted and these crimes may be completely unrelated to what happened to Madeleine. We do not know who has taken our daughter and for what purpose.

What these cases do demonstrate, however, is that British tourists in holiday accomodation were being targeted. At the very least, the possibility of a link between these incidents and Madeleine's disappearance should have been investigated.

It is so hard not to scream ffrom the rooftops about how these crimes appear to have been brushed under the carpet.

The authorities have known of them for a long time and yet the perpetrators as far as the families are aware, remain free. Children are involved and they need to be protected.

Unless you can produce official documents about these alleged incidents, this is the most outrageous statement ever produced here.

There had been only one case of a child (british, coincidentally) that was sexually assaulted by a friend of the family. Every one involved was foreign (from a portuguese point of view) and happened 9 years (if my memory doesn't betray me) before Madeleine's case.

The cases quoted by Kate McCann are from the files.  As there will be numerous policeman who also know about these - I think we can assume they are authentic - even if too sensitive to be released to all and sundry.

The parents came forward to the British Police - not to the McCanns.

Thanks Red

In fact until Madeleine McCann, never did a 3 year old disappear so mysteriously in Portugal.
Inferring that she was abducted is having only a partial approach without any basis on facts.
We've had our share of missing children in Portugal, even if less than in any other country in Europe, but for us, one child missing is too many.

The continuous attempt to display Portugal as a 3rd world country where british kids are at peril is insulting considering what the UK has to deal with on this matter.

I am sorry that Madeleine is missing, I am sorry that there hasn't been a conclusion for the investigation over her fate, but for those that are so prone to attack Portugal, try to search closer to home and you might find the answers.

Kate McCann's files must be special, because there is nothing (and legally can't be anything other than facts relating to the case in question) in my DVD where those cases are referred.
It's legally forbidden to include data from other cases in the files of a certain case. So, either Kate McCann is lying or she was lead to believe lies.

Only in the UK!

So the British police gives privileged information to "persons of interest" in a crime?! Wonderful.

But sadly that is misinformation, since no such cases ever happened.

How do you know that, Benice ? These cases aren't in the files, as is not in the files the supposed note in the Tapas book about the kids being left alone at night.
Without a link or some kind of corroboration, sorry but this is pure gossip.

If these stories are true I wonder why they are relevant anyway, to mention in this case, as none of the children attacked were abducted

Only  relevant in the context of attacking the PT police it seems

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/madeleinemccann/8500353/Kate-McCann-accuses-Algarve-police-of-sex-abuse-cover-up.html

So she read about them in the files, but says they were not recorded by the authorities? That dont make sense.

Why on earth, Benice, would she say the truth ? These urban legends serve her purpose to suggest a bad one stole Madeleine. Mrs McCann doesn't provide any evidence these aren't just rumours.
I spoke with a Grange Operation officer, they haven't read "Madeleine", he was amazed when I asked whether they had.

Absolutely no connection at all between the 2 scenarios IMO.

If you believe that Kate would deliberately include a massive lie in her book - knowing full well that she would be exposing herself to the British police as a liar - then that's up to you.  I think the idea is preposterous.

One thing I am sure about re Kates book and that is it will have been scrutinised to the Nth degree before it went to publication to ensure there was nothing in it that could be proved to be untrue, and nothing in it that could be construed as libellous.     The fact that no-one connected to the case has publically challenged her over the content of her book and no-one is sueing her for libel - should tell you something.

What is disturbing is your lack of common sense to use an excerpt of a romanced book as a quote to alarm people.
There were never any cases with kids as described by that creature.

Jezzzzzz, you are all too crazy to be true!

Fortunately for courts people usually think they have better use of their time than sue others for libel. I bet Mrs McCann knew the risk was null -- when she mocked the GNR officers, in spite of the dramatic situation she was in (whatever happened to Madeleine), as she did mock Mrs Fenn only half an hour after losing her child -- that Tweedledum and Tweedledee likely had financial access to Carter Ruck lawyers.
