The lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia and university professor António Pedro Dores were acquitted yesterday, the Court of Faro, the crime of defamation action brought by a former judicial police inspector Goncalo Amaral. The defendants were also acquitted of the claim of € 3,000. Gonçalo Amaral was sentenced to pay court costs.

Not bad for someone who's supposedly insane.

Aragão Correia era acusado de ter publicado um relatório, em Abril de 2008, em nome da Associação Contra a Exclusão pelo Desenvolvimento (ACED), presidida por António Dores, em que acusava Amaral de ter assistido "de forma complacente" às torturas de que Leonor fora alvo, levadas a cabo pelos seus subordinados. Isto segundo relato que lhe foi feito por Leonor Cipriano.

O tribunal considerou que António Dores "não tinha conhecimento do relatório" e que Aragão Correia "agiu na prossecução de interesses legítimos, convencido de que o depoimento de Leonor Cipriano era verdadeiro, pelo que absolveu ambos os arguidos.

Mrs McCann has an argument  (how he has treated my beautiful Madeleine and the search to find her), even if this is what she believes or pretends to, not the real, but Aragão Correia ?

Wouldn't that be quite understandable given that he classes himself as a human rights lawyer? Amaral lied to the court, not for personal benefit, but to cover up the crime of TORTURE.

Yes, he's got every reason to fear her due to the case he lost - if she can win against him in one libel trial, she can win against him in another.

Lost when the appeal by Mr Amaral on the book ban was upheld
Lost after that with the supreme court, theysaid there could be no comeback by her
No further appeals made by her to any higher authority on the case
In other words, lost overall so far, and not only against Mr Amaral but lost against the publishers and the tv station

As you say not a great foundation to win her alledgedly upcoming case
