Kate says in her book that Gerry found the shutters could be opened from the outside as well as the inside. Nothing about thinking they had been broken and that's why he could open them.

this is Gerry's s statement...

Then he closed the shutters, made his way to the outside and tried to open them, which he managed to do, much to his surprise given that he thought that that was only possible from the inside

so he managed to open them from the outside...doesn't say it was easy...what's the exact statement in Kate's book

Shutters that could be opened from the outside support an easy break in...so why would Gerry lie about the shutters...he didn't
It seems that all it would have taken to lay this mystery to bed was Kate remembering to write in her book that Gerry thought initially the shutter was broken, of course that would have convinced the sceptics wouldn't it?!  But she cocked up by forgetting to include this vital piece of information, how careless of her!

Why are you being so obtuse?  He believed they had been broken into.  What law states that shutters which have been forced up cannot subsequently be lowered?

If Gerald McCann believed that the shutters had been broken into why didn't he say so? Neither he nor his wife told their friends who were there at the time. They didn't tell the police. Open was the word used.

How do you know what they said to their friends and the police that night?  Were you there?

how do you know what they told their friends...How do you know what they told the police...you do not know either.
the statements to the police are not a full record of what they said...just what the police wished to record...and we don't know how accurate that is

Statements m'dear. Read the files and you will know too! I feel I have contributed all I can to this subject now. It's not rocket science. The media were told by McCann friends and family that the shutters had been broken. They said the information came from the McCann couple. Those are the facts. all else is speculation. Speculating ad infinitum cannot add anything to the facts in my opinion. Good night!

Did Kate start writing her book that night then?

I don't get your point.

the statements do not record everything the McCanns told the police

The statements were given the following day, none as I recall go into minute detail about what Gerry said to each friend about the shutters at the point of him examining them that night.  You claim not to be in any way prejudiced and to have a completely open mind but at the same time refuse to admit that it is possible Gerry actually believed the shutters had been forced opened when he phoned his family at home.

I think all this discussion tells us more about your prejudices  than it does about Gerry and the ruddy shutters tbh. 8(0(*

You seem to be of the opinion that Kate's book should be a verbatim account of every word that was uttered and every action that was taken, which would really only be possible if she was taking notes as events occurred.  In any case as you believe Kate's book is one great big lie from start to finish why would it make any difference to your opinion if she had written "Gerry said he thought the shutters had been broken"?

Kate says in her book that a couple of days after her daughter's disappearance every inconsequential detail was written down so she was taking notes and I'm sure even you'd agree that whether the shutter appeared broken or jemmied was of great consequence to the investigation and therefore the McCanns.

whether they were broken was of no consequence...it's the fact that they were open that is important...and even that is not accepted by some

So she hadn't started making notes that night then?  Thank you!  2 days later it was already well established that the shutters weren't physically broken so why would she need to note this?  It's an absurd notion.

It is not a fact they were open, other than by the mccanns hands.
