Skimming around on the surface whilst ignoring the substantially greater depths below seems like a pretty accurate metaphore for the entire Amaral investigation, unfortunately.

Do we know the contours of the lake?
Diving at depths in excess of 30m becomes a bit complex. It is not like p****ng about with a snorkel in your local swimming pool. Not to say it can't be done but it needs a load of money, men and equipment chucked at it. Work out the rest for yourself.

If that dam is indeed deep and murky, I doubt that divers alone could have conducted a comprehensive search. It would have required specialist skills and sonar equipment, IMO, which may not have been considered proportionate in the absence of reliable intelligence at the time.

Perhaps the UK could have offered those services earlier on (and perhaps may have done), but Amaral seemed to be suspicious of the UK police from the start.

I find that sad. There is no shame in accepting assistance - it happens in natural disasters all the time, for example, wherever they may occur.

SY is behind investigation  its a whole country resources on this domestic and foreign. Airborne low frequency sonar today can detect wedding ring on the bottom of the river. They are  also not dumb when someone is trying cheap tricks.

Divers search lake and it looks like the same one, but not enough divers, I would have thought

Thank you, Victoria.
It is a very similar in name "Barragem" I think this one is a reservoir though.

Barragem appears to mean dam or reservoir in Portuguese.

the other lake was also a reservoir, but closer to PDL, I believe.
Reminds me of the murdered woman found many years later in the lake district, by a couple of divers who found her by accident whilst enjoying a diving session. She was in a weighted bag.

If you remembered correctly there was one in Coniston Water and one in Wastw..er. One with a wedding ring and one without a wedding ring.

Yes, I remember that case too.

In this case, the lake that was searched wasn't searched thoroughly, since as I understand it, the man who was funding the search couldn't afford a meticulous trawl of the whole lake and so the divers he paid for only covered a small section.

Between the two lakes, there is an incredible amount of water that has never been searched.

It would be difficult not to remember it. It being the subject of a Channel 5 programme broadcast last night  8(>((

That's Barragem do Arade (the one Correia had searched).
