Maybe Russia wanted to build massive pipelines into Europe to sell them loads of gas, then later, invade Europe & steal all the gas back from them & then sell it to someone else.

Is it capable? Anyone is capable. But there are logistical limitations. It has taken Russia 4 years to capture an area where it's population are majority pro Russian. It might take them a while longer to take reach a Russo phobic Sc..thorpe however, based on that rate of progress. So I think we'll be ok.

De Nazification was the stated aim of the SMO. The East Ukranians are majority Stepan Bandera fans. There are statues of the Nazi collaborator. That's what Ukranian Nationalism is. Remember how Canada invited a Ukranian soldier to it's parliament & celebrated him bravely fighting the Russians during WW2? The West supports Nazis in Ukraine. It arms them. Boris Johnson has been pictured with the Azov Battalion & their Nazi insignia.

No you gave me attack scenarios post the start of the war. We are arming Ukraine & so are now complicit. But prior to the Ukraine war, what would have been the benefit to Russia in attacking it's biggest energy customers?
