The subject of Cuddlecat appears to have re-emerged and in particular what would appear to be a myth like so many previously which were started in the tabloid press. The reporter, none other than Lori Campbell, and desdpite never having interviewed Madeleine's parents was claiming that Cuddlecat had been put out of reach while the youngster slept, a claim which is not supported by Kate McCann in her book about her missing daughter.

The first reference to CC in Kate's book is on page 90 where it describes Madeleine Beth McCann (MBM) being put to bed with the CC beside her.

On facebook they were saying her uncle had bought her a new one New Cuddle Cat (NCC) for her 4th birthday so let us assume that is so.   I feel Kate is being very honest in her memory so there definitely was a CC beside her that night.

You mean you have no evidence...I'm gobsmacked and there was me thinking you had made a breakthough. As for Cuddlecat MkII, since Maddie never got to celebrate her fourth birthday it is logical to assume she never saw her new friend.

Had Madeleine received a new Cuddlecat I'm quite sure two would have featured in this story but as it is, only one Cuddlecat takes centre stage.

Put it this way there is video [ removed as hearsay ] I saw it but I had been watching hundreds of videos everyday for  3 weeks but it was toward the end of that period so it would be possible to trace it through my browser history but a big job.  I heard it and I read it so I believe it.  It sounds so analytical, just like a doctor does, using small clues helping to make a diagnosis.  She has these skills and an amazing memory for detail.

Are you being unfair for some one said that CC had the smell of MBM on it, and that is only published in a tabloid. Did you delete that statement as well?  I can find many quotes in the tabloids where Kate says this about the CC being on a shelf or ledge out of reach.

Take this report for example the word "reach" is supposed to be used 3 times yet I can't find it, someone has removed it yet Google says it was there.   I'm not a computer expert but it sounds mischievously like a cat burgler to me!

I've c&p'd this from another forum so I hope the commenter doesn't mind. It was posted in 2009 in response to an allegation that KM had made the comment in a NOTW exclusive about CC being on the shelf, despite the obligations of Judicial Secrecy. The Mirror link is no longer available.

So off I went to trawl the archives for this statement by Kate McCann which is oft alluded to but which no-one really seems to know the source of.

 Guess what? I found the article and sure enough, it is by Lori CampbellHere it is:-

 Missing Madeleine McCann's favourite pink Cuddle Cat toy was taken from her arms as she slept and placed beyond her reach by her kidnapper. That is why police are certain Madeleine was snatched while she was asleep - and was NOT killed or injured in the holiday apartment 
 But there's a problem. This does not come from an interview with kate McCann. In fact, it states:-

 



Kate has refused to say where she found the Cuddle Cat toy when she returned to the villa in Praia da Luz at about 10pm to find her daughter's bed empty.

However, it does give the source of the claim that Cuddlecat was found on a shelf out of Madeleine's reach:-

 



Our police source said: "When Kate tucked Madeleine up in bed earlier in the evening, she had toy tightly in her arms as she did every night. So Kate was terrified when she spotted it had been left in a place too high for her to reach. Kate also noticed the window was wide opened and the shutters jammed up. It was because of these things that she had no doubt Madeleine had been kidnapped and she ran out to scream for help."


I wonder if this was the same police source who claimed that Madeleine's "real" father had been found through the sperm bank and traced to Birmingham where he was subsequently cleared of involvement in her disappearance???

That is correct, the words "... put out of reach on a top shelf" have been removed from the article since the comment was most probably invented/hearsay in any event.  You might not know it but people can ask for online reports to be amended.  It happens here all the time so we do our best to comply.

As an example, a lawyer recently asked that his name be removed from a case as his children were being affected.  In another, a witness who initially asked for a thread to be created subsequently asked me to archive it as it had proven to be more traumatic than he had first envisaged.  The Googlebot picks up these posts and retains them until they are updated.

Now it is tempting to think this is all in the same room but it clearly states elsewhere she did a quick search in all the rooms, so this is the summary of her findings to let her come to the conclusion "she had no doubt Madeleine had been kidnapped".
