It could be how we read it, you read it differently to how we do.  There is also "changing your mind", he might have played tennis. Kate may have said something earlier but she may have changed her mind later.

Ok I stand corrected,  David Payne went back to tell Gerry that Kate was ok then went to get changed for tennis.  That doesn't mean that Gerry asked David Payne to take the children to the recreation centre though does it?  Just that Gerry asked if she needed help,  meaning did she want Gerry to go back to the apartment.

It contradicts her statement when they had already decided not to bring the kids out before Gerry left the tennis for at 6. So then D.P. goes  to take them out. That doesn't add up and more importantly it's a routine change on the day she disappeared!

I wouldn't read anything into the fact that they were getting ready for bed earlier than usual,  Madeleine was shattered by the sound of it and Gerry wanted to play a game of tennis,   they were going home soon and he probably wanted to make the most of the time he had left.

Did David Payne actually say he had come round to take them out?     It is more likely that Gerry just asked him to pop in to see if Kate needed help with the children,   he probably felt guilty about playing tennis.

at 18H30, the time at which he saw DP next to the tennis court. DAVID went to visit KATE and the children and returned close to 19H00, trying to convince the deponent to continue to play tennis, to which [entreaty] he did not accede as he had already been playing for about an hour and had to go back to to his wife.

That statement it sounds like David went by his own initiative to visit Kate.
