No one has ever told me how they worked out she wasn't home on Wednesday night.  Yet it seems to be the commonly held view.

The clue is in the fact that Mrs Fenn went out to her friends house the following evening to get some bloody peace.  As she was at home on the Thursday night with her niece it isn't hard to work out that it was the Wed she went out and that Tuesday night was the extended crying event.
