I posted links to 2-3 year old children opening sliding doors and stair gates, so I wouldn't expect a child of Madeleine's age to have any problem.

Yes... but... Kate and the 'fan club' they say No. and when they say No, they do mean Maddie was abducted from the apartment by strangers.

Once the circumstantial evidence is  forthcoming  we will be enlightened, until then we will remain in the dark.

IMO a child who could easily exit an apartment via a door would therefore have no need to first open a window & raise shutters.

Yes! exactly. sometimes when you say it- it just sounds so right!  8**8:/:

MBM had no need to open shutters when a good easy to open door was there.

But you cannot know what an individual child can or cannot do.
The variance in children's abilities at any age can be quite striking.
A great deal depends on their height and strength.
I have no idea of whether Madeleine could have opened the door and may I suggest, neither do you.

Who is the " fan club" ?
I thought it is against forum rules to name call either side of the debate?

You must ask yourself why both the window & shutter (which anyone would expect to be secured against access from exterior) were found open if a "woke & wandered" situation occurred.

Funny you should ask that. I did ask myself, as did the investigating officers in PDL did  conclude , we seem inclined to believe that the shutters were a red herring. To deflect from the fact that a door had been left unlocked.  It does add more drama to the 'abduction 'story. You know that whooshing, curtains blowing- and door slamming! Unfortunately, there is no evidence of outside entry and exit.

Did it matter that the door was unlocked when so many contend Madeleine could have exited via either door of her own volition? Why (allegedly) stage an intrusion scene using the presumed secure access point when it would have been much simpler to say Madeleine had just wandered off & anything that subsequently happened was outside the parents' control?

The parents lost control of their children the minute they left them and went to dinner.

I agree - but many children who wake & wander do so without their parents' knowledge despite the parents being on the premises. Cases have been cited here.
Why complicate an easily-explained disappearance by introducing an open window & shutter Madeleine would have not, in all probability, considered when there was at least one unlocked/open door?

It's quite different if the parents are where they're supposed to be.

Why is it? How would an investigation have panned out if this little lad had been picked up by a paedophile rather than a decent citizen, never to be found again?

If it wasn’t claimed that the shutter and window were open what else would there have been to suggest an abduction and not simply a woke and wandered ?

The Amaral investigation quite obviously did not accept the 'woke and wandered theory'.
The Rebelo investigation didn't run with it either.
The current Portuguese and British investigations are both into Madeleine's abduction; which would lead one to suppose they have the evidence which points in that direction.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I’m not suggesting Madeleine did wake and wonder but if the window and shutter hadn’t been open how could the McCanns have pushed the narrative of an abduction ? Without the window and shutter claim there would be no visible evidence of an abduction and that is why the open window and shutter has had to stay even though there’s no sensible reason for it being open.
