"So what are the words, in Portuguese, in the relevant part?" is what I said.

As it's a Saturday, perhaps you could start your new thread soon, whilst the background is fresh in our memories.

I have expressed no view as to whether, IMO, Amaral is correct or not.

I have supplied information re the opinion of the people of Portugal.

Your position all boils down to being your opinion.  Nothing more.

I await your new thread with relish.  Then we can hack about with what original words and sentences were used by Amaral.

See you soon?  &^&*%

We don't need to hack about anything... Amaral did not prove maddie died in the apartment.... Because no proof exists

None of those statements made in Portuguese were electronically recorded though.  Nor were they verbatim ... they were paraphrased, missing out the filler uhms and ahhs naturally used in a highly charged situation.  Nor is there a record of questions asked to elicit responses made.

Those of us who are not Portuguese or Portuguese speakers are reliant on amateur translations from Portuguese into English done in haste.

I disagree.  The Portuguese nationals who have translated the statements are highly educated individuals and did the work for free in their own time.  Nobody has ever been able to point to any major discrepancy in any of the translated files and that is to their credit.

So in answer to the questions who, when and why, your answer is that it might have been an abductor. My answer to you is it might not have been an abductor. Therefore it isn't evidence that it was an abductor. The only forensic evidence found belonged to Kate McCann.

It is evidence of an abductor but not proof.

actually I ponted out a fault ...on this forum a couple of yeras ago....ie that the final report asked the mccanns to demonstrate their innocence...not prove it..

the point that brietta is making is that there is no way of checking many of the original statements vbecause we dont have the original english... The mccanns statements are not verbatim which makes things even worse

Taking into consideration the process as a whole perhaps you would care to substantiate your assertion that it "makes things worse" and demonstrate which particular aspect of the overall process has been affected in a deleterious manner?
It would seem to be a case of your attempting to pass off opinion as fact unless you are able to show otherwise.

There is no accurate record of the mccanns original statements... The fact that the translations are not verbatim makes things even worse.... Surely that is self explanatory

That response in no way addresses the question I posed.
Try again.

What makes you think that bothers, me in the slightest

If the McCanns statements are translated incorrectly it could either have a positive or negative effect on their case.

What case are you talking about?

As far as I am aware the only member of the McCann family who has a case being investigated is Madeleine.

The fact that we are discussing the lack of evidence either for abduction or for Amaral's assertion that she died in various locations in the family holiday rental are - in my opinion - an indication of how badly the initial investigation into her case let her down as soon as the lead detective settled on his thesis of death.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....
