madeleine p71 "I walked over and gently began to pull it to.  Suddenly it slammed shut, as if caught by a draught.
A little surprised, I turned to see if I'd left the patio doors open and let in the breeze.  Retracing my steps, I confirmed that I hadn't."

Kate describes a situation in which the door should not have slammed shut.
So what if the patio door in the parents bedroom was slightly ajar?   Cool it off in the absence of Air con.  Nothing worse for sleeping than an overheated bedroom

Or possibly, one of the two sitting room windows had been left open?  Again to cool down the flat.

Either could produce a thru draft.

Do you KNOW that all the windows were closed, SIL ?
Do you KNOW that the parents patio doors weren't slightly ajar?

Yesssssssssssssssssss. see someone else spotted that. My police friend said just that!

Also the light... it was dark she couldn't see Maddie, but she could see the twins in their cots?  Gerry saw Maddie when he had his doting dad moment so  was someone switching on and off lights or what?

Oh Mistaken, what are you going on about?  Have you not bothered to read any of my posts, or posts from others?

We cant KEEP going over it, time after time.  TY.

Why did the door not slam shut when it was first opened then? Gerry saw Maddie on top of her bed when he claimed he looked in on her. IMO the one and only physical check he did that  week. What a coincidence. He also said later that he 'felt' the abductor was in the apartment- so  no blowing. whooshing for him  then. and what about the Matt Check- nope all was quiet.. did he give a measurement of the door at all when he held his ear to it? I can't recall.

It was gusty that evening, and IIRC a storm was brewing.  Please correct me if I am wrong on that.
Gusts come and go.

On what do you base your thoughts that there was only one physical check that night and it happened to be that night?   Any real evidence?

As for Matt, he made two checks that night for The Mccanns.

1}  Are you talking about the first check when he held his ear by the shutters (window)
or,
2)  are you talking about when he entered the apartment later and did a visual check, but unfortunately he never entered the bedroom and never saw Madeleine because of that wall we were talkiing about earlier.  This was NOT a listening check per se, but a visual one
or,
3)  have you got the two checks totally mixed up ?

The next windy day see if you can get a door to slam shut.
You need a thru draft.  In other words outside openings on both sides of the door.

Are you making this up as you go along?  Please point me in the direction of Matt making two trips to the McCanns apartment.

I don't know why Gerry found it absolutely necessary to do his visit so soon after Matt returned at 9pm but he must have had his reasons, though it can't have been to do with the quality of Matt's checking as he was quite content for Matt to go instead of Kate later.

It was to do with the quality of Matts check IMO.  Matt only listened at the window shutters.  On the first check he did not visually check.

And how do you know what Gerry used the loo for?  Some people prefer not to use (semi) public loos for certain things.

If you had bothered to read the statements, you would know what i am saying is correct.

The first check was at the window just before 9pm.  He was out trying to hustle Dave, fiona and diane for the meal and popped in this impromptu check.

The second was when Matt offered to take Kates turn and this happened after 9.30pm

Sadie, stop trying so hard in finding excuses, excuses just get in the way.

How does one open the shutters from the outside?  I've seen them lifted up manually from the outside but they then fall down as soon as you let them go.
Perhaps the person who opened them did it Heris style?

or perhaps they got jammed open ?

or maybe an acomplis opened them from the inside using the strap ?

We just dont know, do we ?

If I have my front door open and someone walks through my back door, my front door slams shut.

There does need to be another wind source.
No, not another wind source, BUT a wind exit route via somewhere on another side of the building, so that the high pressure build up on the one side can escape to the low pressure area on the other side ... causing the draft

How could she see the Baby in the brown cot, it's behind the bedroom door.

She opened the bedroom door sufficiently to see the little one

simples.

Clearly demonstrates that she wasn't intending to do a visual check but simply intended to listen at the patio door for anything untoward.
Patio door?  Do you mean the bedroom door, John?

I rarely listed at any doors, or went in, because my son was like he was sleeping withone eye open

When he finally grew out of his wakefulness at the age of seven, I would do exactly as Kate did.  I would put my ear to the door before opening it and peeping in.

I think that you can read too much into things, John

IMO, Sadie was referring to the wall immediately on your left as you enter the children's bedroom.  I believe the point she was making was that it was necessary to physically stick you head into the room to see all of Madeleine's bed.

Thank you, John.  8((()*/
Well described, however it would need a step into the room imo, to see if Madeleine was alright

Or at least put your head through the doorway.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Interesting, letting the breeze in the patio door would have opened the children's bedroom door and not closed it.

Soz, but not right John.  The prevailing wind (high pressure) was from the northwest, IIRC and the lower pressure was to the southeast.

Going from High pressure to Low pressure means that the bedroom door would close and the patio window curtains would flutter in a southerly direction.  Just the same as the door in Madeleines room and also the curtains, they fluttered in a southerly direction.
