In the meantime, what is your opinion of former police head honchos insisting that your missing child is dead and accusing you at every (lucrative) opportunity of criminal activity?

Not sure the Potuguese courts will take our opinion into account Carana.
Brietta posted on 10/04/2022 “But whether or not that is the reason behind the delay I am certain that Brueckner's trial is going to take place.”

Let’s count the months, shall we?

Without proof there shouldn't be any.  That said however, when arguidos behave in a most unorthodox manner questions will most certainly be asked and accusations made.

In cases of claimed child abduction, investigators have to be extremely careful not to jump to any conclusion too quickly.  They must keep an open mind as to the various possibilities.  Amaral and his team fell foul of this most basic requirement, they chose to pursue the child abduction theory to the exclusion of all else.  It was only later when inquiries failed to produce any results that they turned their attention to the parents.  By then it was far too late!

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

the PJ were told to pursue the abduction lead at the beginning, after the meeting between the Portuguese authorities and the British ambassador. There was a lot of pressure and the Portuguese were too humble to stand up to the British.

My opinion is that the Portuguese were a bit out of their depth and deferred to the British because they were perceived as the experts.

Could we have a cite for that, and also a reason why a) the British Ambassador would instruct the PJ in this matter and b) why the PJ took orders from the British ambassador.  Being "too humble" is a bit of a lame excuse.

You do realize, don't you, the Portuguese were looking for a missing child, and the McCann's were shouting abduction.

Then strangely enough, nothing could be found to back up an abduction.

What a surprise, that was.

Nine years later, no change - as far as we have been told.

"This is a very badly told story"

by José Manuel Oliveira and Paula Castanheira, 05May2007

The disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the English three-year-old child that was on holidays in Lagos, "is a very badly told story", a source from the Polícia Judiciária in Portimão has confided to DN. The statement reflects the authorities' doubts concerning the "confused" depositions that were given by the witnesses yesterday, throughout the day.

Yet more whinging in the Daily Star.

“The longer it goes on the more anguish it causes them”

But they have now submitted an appeal to Portugal's Supreme Court to overturn Mr Amaral's win.

If they lose, the legal bill could wipe out the Find Madeleine Fund set up using public donations to help the search for their daughter.

A friend of the couple said: "They are exasperated by this. The longer it goes on the more anguish it causes them.

Kate and Gerry gambled thousands upon thousands of pounds, directly from the fund, in the hope they could destroy one man’s life. Where is Madeleine in that thought process? It was they who instigated the costly legal process, and when it was they who duly lost, we were treated to reports in the media of how Goncalo Amaral will be depriving the McCanns of money set aside to find Madeleine.

UTTTER  MOONSHINE!

Goncalo Amaral didn’t ask to be taken to court, he didn’t ask for the British press to smear him at every turn. Kate and Gerry McCann did that. In fact by taking Snr. Amaral to court, they actually publicised his book, better than any PR company, could have ever achieved. It was never about the book though, it was about hatred, and power.

They attacked; he defended himself; they lost...badly.

Not one, not two, but three judges, unanimously ruled, that Goncalo Amaral had no case to answer, and that Kate and Gerry, should pay all legal fees; their own, and Snr. Amaral's.

So instead of cutting their losses, and paying the legal fees they were ordered to, what do the McCanns do? They throw yet more money onto the table, and attempt an appeal; using yet more of the money they pathetically whine, was for Madeleine.

They're too arrogant to see, they're the ones throwing it away!

Do they have any chance of an appeal being granted? Not a chance. That hasn’t stopped them haemorrhaging yet more donations, in the pursuit of revenge.

If that money is truly for Madeleine, the dastardly duo should stop gambling it on twisted vendettas, and spend it on what they claim it is truly for. Finding the daughter, that one way or another, they were responsible for losing.

After all, what better way to prove Goncalo Amaral wrong, than to actually find Madeleine.

A gambling addiction, using public donations, is never going to achieve that.
Always listen to both sides of the story before you judge.

The first storyteller you will always find has modified the story, for there benefit BE WISE.

It seems Xtina, the arrogance and self-pitying of the Mccanns knows no limits.

I thought searching for 'their beloved daughter' was their top priority.

Not in needless court cases.

In fact all the court cases have done is give Amaral a world wide audience for his book.

If they had let it alone, hardly anyone would have noticed it.

There are also books written by other people about the case including Daniela Prousa which say far more about the Mccanns.

The irony is that a court case against a book which was 'harming the search' for Madeleine has now become something completely different. They were unable to prove that assertion, so it can't be used as a justification any more.

What is the justification for continuing now? It seems to be because losing will 'wipe out the Fund', which will be needed when (not if, note) the SY investigation ends. So now it is about money pure and simple. The friend' isn't Clarence, imo, he would never make that statement of certainty about SY.
